High proportion of renewable energy brings great challenges to the stable operation of the distribution network. Distributed energy storage (DES), as an interactive Lithium-ion battery energy storage system, can effectively improve the grid connection and serve as a backup power source. Aiming at the DES system supporting the flexibility of distribution network, this paper proposes a new type of dynamic reconfigurable battery (DRBN) system and its efficient collaborative optimization control method with the power converter system, clarifies the operation control mechanism of the DRBN system of the CPS architecture, proposes a multi-objective optimization control strategy for the DRBN system based on the CPS architecture, and formulates a demonstration application and verification plan. ©2024 IEEE.

In northern China,thermal power units(TPUs)are important in improving the penetration level of renewable *** such areas,the potentials of coordinated dispatch of renewable energy sources(RESs)and TPUs can be better realized,if RESs and TPUs connected to the power grid at the same point of common coupling(PCC)are dispatched as a coupled ***,the definition of the coupled system is introduced,followed by an analysis on its ***,based on the operation characteristics of deep peak regulation(DPR)of TPUs in the coupled system,the constraint of the ladder-type ramping rate applicable for day-ahead dispatch is proposed,and the corresponding flexible spinning reserve constraint is further ***,considering these constraints and peak regulation ancillary services,a day-ahead optimal dispatch model of the coupled system is ***,the operational characteristics and advantages of the coupled system are analyzed in several case studies based on a real-world power grid in Liaoning province,*** numerical results show that the coupled system can further improve the economic benefits of RESs and TPUs under the existing policies.

The interaction between various energy supply systems (cold, heat, electricity, gas, etc.) is becoming more tightly coupled as social economy and technology advance. Multi-energy systems are ineffective because different types of energy systems run independently. In order to protect the data privacy of each sub-system, this research suggests an ideal resource management framework for a multi-energy group control system. The energy hub (EH) paradigm is first suggested. When deploying EHs, the physical constraints of various energy systems are taken into account. Through scenario-based stochastic programming, the uncertainties of renewable energy are considered. According to the leader-follower relationship between multi-energy group control system operators and energy hub operators (EHOs), Benders decomposition is applied to decentralize the decision-making process. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

The fast and accurate state evaluation of cable plays an important role in the safe and reliable operation of power system. Thus a high-voltage cables condition evaluation model based on siamese-attention bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) is proposed in this paper. First, the attention mechanism was used to optimize the BiLSTM network, which can complete parallel training while obtaining global information. then the optimized network was adopted to build a siamese neural network framework, realizing data classification by calculating the Euclidean distance between feature vectors. Finally, the model was trained and tested through the online monitoring data of high-voltage cables from engineering. The results showed that the accuracy rate, precision, recall rate, F1 score and Matthews correlation coefficient of the SA-BiLSTM model was increased at least by 7.92%, 11.79%, 11.41%, 12.04%, and 20.90%, respectively, compared with other models. © 2023 IEEE.

Existing energy storage operation strategies take renewable energy unit consumption as the main goal, and often operate in conjunction with renewable energy projects, resulting in low energy storage utilization rate and insufficient driving force for energy storage operators to develop independent energy storage. However, with the implementation of independent energy storage operation support policies, the regional peak shaving service market gradually expands to include energy storage. Energy storage can have a positive impact on the economy of the power system as well as its utilization rate. According to the historical East Inner Mongolia power Grid operational data, this paper established the annual chronological operation simulation model of peak shaving market participation by energy storage. By analyzing and summarizing the results of energy storage operation state obtained from the annual operation simulation, the energy storage operation strategy of taking part in peak shaving market based on system supply and demand margin was proposed. The two charge and two discharge or three charge and two discharge strategy, which are the most common operation modes of operation simulation, are compared with the proposed operation strategy. It is evident that energy storage's involvement in system peak shaving can lessen thermal units' peak shaving pressure, enhance the benefits of energy storage as a market participant for auxiliary services and the system's overall efficiency in terms of electricity consumption. © 2024 IEEE.

The ice disaster has brought many adverse effects on the power transmission system, which is mainly studied from the transmission line failure rate perspective. Strong winds often accompany the ice disaster weather, the motion path of wind is considered when identifying the weak location of transmission network system. According to the theory of meteorological simulation, and the mathematical relationship between the effective wind speed and the forced outage rates is obtained. A transient stability risks assessment method is proposed considering the ice disaster in the case of a strong wind moving path. According to the fault probability of transmission lines, a predictive fault set for power grid risk assessment is established. The IEEE-39 bus system is used as an example to analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that meteorological parameters, geographical environment, and other factors, especially the meteorological advance speed and the direction of transmission lines, will cause greater damage to the stability of the transmission system. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The rapid evolution of smart grids has increased the complexity of power system structures and operational characteristics, presenting new challenges in system management and reliability. Traditional power system simulation tools struggle with non-real-time data processing and scalability due to limitations in their architectural designs. Moreover, existing cloud simulation platforms are constrained by closed hardware architectures and lack sufficient non-real-time capabilities. As a solution, we propose a novel large-scale non-real-time simulation platform for power systems based on cloud computing, designed with a modular architecture. By leveraging advanced technologies in cloud computing, parallel computing, and non-real-time simulation, our platform addresses critical needs for scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. We discuss how integrating these technologies enhances computational performance and supports complex simulation tasks, ultimately improving decision-making and operational efficiency in power system management. © 2024 IEEE.

The bidirectional power converter (BPC) in the ac/dc hybrid microgrid plays a vital role in maintaining the dynamic balance of power in the microgrid, achieving mutual support of power between the AC and the DC areas, and improving the power quality. In view of this, this paper proposes a robust control method for BPC in the ac/dc hybrid microgrid based on the H∞ tracking problem. First, based on the superposition theorem, the voltage control problem of the ac/dc hybrid microgrid is converted into a H∞ tracking problem for solution, and the robust controller is mathematically proved to exist stably. Then, the designed H∞ robust controller is reduced based on the principle of optimal Hankel norm approximation reduction. Finally, the simulation model is built based on the MATLAB/Simulink to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Enhanced Transient Stability Strategy for Grid-Forming Converter Based on Current Limiting

With the sustained increase in the penetration rate of grid-forming (GFM) converters in power systems, problems such as overcurrent and transient instability during system faults have drawn significant attention. This paper proposes an enhanced dynamic dq-axis current-limiting strategy (ED-CLiS) for GFM converters, which improves transient stability across all stages before and after current limiting. First, a dynamic dq-axis current-limiting strategy (D-CLiS) is proposed. This strategy regulates the power angle to prevent it from going out of control during current limiting, which is achieved by controlling the $d$ - and $q$ -axis current reference values to reshape the ${P}-\delta^{\prime}$ curve. Additionally, a large reverse acceleration area can induce excessive angle $\delta^{\prime}$ swings, causing the D-CLiS to be triggered repeatedly and resulting in converter instability after the control exit, even without faults. A reference power control structure (RPCS) is proposed, which suppresses the phenomenon by adjusting the power reference value to control the converter's reverse acceleration area. Finally, the control strategy is verified through simulations.

With the adjustment of energy structure and the increase of uncertainty source load, the physical structure of the distribution network becomes more complex, and its intelligent and low-carbon operation face greater challenges. In addition, business and information flows of the distribution network have diversified and grown more complicated, placing more demands on the dispatching department's capacity for management and data collecting. It is challenging to evaluate the distribution network's overall operational status since its physical infrastructure and information system are continually being updated and changed. In order to meet the actual engineering needs and consider the intelligent development of the distribution network, it is important to build an evaluation system of the smart distribution network operation level from different dimensions. Firstly, a systematic analysis of the smart distribution network operation is carried out from three dimensions: physical, information and social, and an evaluation index system of the smart distribution network operation level is constructed. On this premise, a comprehensive evaluation method based on normal gray cloud clustering is proposed, and the distribution network development form is divided. Finally, the actual dispatching of the distribution network is used as an example to evaluate its current operation level, determine the division of the distribution network development form under each dimension, and provide path guidance for the balanced development of the smart distribution network. © 2023 IEEE.
