To improve the reliability of conventional protection using fault travelling wave, this paper proposes a line traveling wave protection method based on improved Hausdorff distance comparison. The traveling waves at the two sides of the line have different propagation laws and change characteristics during external fault and internal fault. First, the traveling waveform is processed by time matching and segmentation calculation. Second, splitting the long waveform into short waveforms and averaging the waveforms at both sides of the block processing, thus calculating the average Hausdorff distance. Last, using PSCAD building a bipolar DC transmission system for simulation verification, the results show that the improved method has high reliability.

Therefore, in this paper, potential dominant influencing factors of the NFFO are explored based on a general renewable power integrated system at first. Large-scale new energy grid-connected challenges the frequency modulation of the power grid. How to meet the needs of the system’s frequency modulation while taking into account the economic benefits of thermal power unit wear and energy storage life loss has become an urgent problem to be solved. Therefore, an optimal control strategy of thermal power and energy storage combined with frequency modulation loss cost and Recovery of state of Charge is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the optimal power distribution model of thermal power and energy storage is constructed. Then, taking the minimum frequency modulation loss cost and the minimum SOC offset as the optimization objectives, the remaining frequency modulation capacity and energy storage output constraints of the system were considered comprehensively to complete the frequency modulation power distribution between the thermal power-energy storage combined system. Finally, based on the measured data, the secondary frequency modulation strategy is simulated. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy has good economy, restores the SOC of energy storage, and reduces the frequency modulation loss of the system.

As the penetration rate of renewable energy continues to rise, grid connection standards now require renewable energy systems to achieve fault ride-through during grid faults and provide voltage support. However, voltage support occupies converter capacity, reducing its available active power output and threatening system frequency in high renewable ratio systems. The virtual synchronous machine (VSGs) can regulate voltage and frequency similar to conventional generators, although inrush currents pose a threat to inverter safety. This paper proposes an optimization strategy for active and reactive power during grid faults for VSGs. Both voltage and frequency support are considered for VSGs. The rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and inrush current constraints are constructed and incorporated into the optimal model to guarantee the security of the frequency and prevent the damage of the converter. Case studies validate the effectiveness of the proposed model.
