Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) loads have great potential for demand response due to the buildings' thermal inertia. Modelling the complex thermal dynamics of realistic buildings is essential for the building energy optimization. In this paper, Deep Q-Network (DQN), a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm, is used to decide the indoor temperature setpoint in response to the real-time price. The agent can adjust the HVAC load to reduce the electricity cost while considering the occupants' comfort requirement. To significantly accelerate the training process, imitation learning is adopted to pre-train the RL agent using historical data. The results of the case study show that the agent's performance improves steadily and exceeds the benchmark after a short period of training. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.

With the development of energy industry and infor-mation technologies, the concept of energy Internet is proposed to prevent the energy crisis and reduce the environmental pollution. However, the planning of energy Internet is facing great challenges that there are large uncertainties of boundary conditions in the planning. The collection of Internet information can help solve the problem. This paper introduces the method of collecting objective data from the Internet, such as renewable energy sources data, climate data, and economic data, and the usage of the data for energy Internet planning. The method of collecting and processing fuzzy information from the Internet are introduced as well. The events related to the energy Internet planning can be perceived and be applied to the multi-scenario planning of energy Internet. Besides, the difficulties and outlooks of the usages are given. © 2017 IEEE.

Five-level active neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) converter is a newly emerging topology which can overcome the drawbacks of traditional neutral-point clamped (NPC) converters and flying-capacitor (FC) converters. Its dc-link is subdivided into two equal parts and the main problem is the neutral-point (NP) potential balancing. In this paper, a NP potential balancing algorithm based on zero-sequence voltage injection is presented. By calculating the NP currents of all key zero-sequence voltages, the most appropriate zero-sequence voltage is selected to generate the demanded NP current. Moreover, by further limiting the span of injected zero-sequence voltages, the NP balancing algorithm can make the two IGBTs connected in series operate at fundamental frequency. A three-phase five-level ANPC inverter prototype was built up and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of this algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

LED lighting system supplied by batteries is one of effective solutions to vehicle and photovoltaic lighting systems. In order to improve lighting performance and prolong the life of LEDs and batteries, this paper proposes a novel intelligent controller for LED lighting systems. Stage constant current (SCC) control strategy is proposed, which determines the optimal working current of LEDs (Iref) according to their ambient temperature and the capacity of batteries. For implementing SCC control strategy, a new control algorithm of double current loops and feedforward (DCLF) control is proposed based on Boost converter with constant current source. Both output current and inductor current are used as feedback control variables and input voltage is employed as feedforward compensation in the proposed algorithm. simulations have been conducted using PSIM software;and based on that, a 50W photovoltaic LED lighting system has been developed to implement a serial of comparative experiments. The results show the advantages and validity of DCLF algorithm, such as excellent dynamic performance and good robustness. © 2008 IEEE.

With the development of smart grid, the self-healing ability of protection device becomes much more important. Pilot protection is of good selectivity, but it needs a highly reliable communication network. Once the communication line between two devices is out of work, pilot protection will be forced out of operation. Since there are many ring structures in communication network, circuitous routes can be found to help pilot protection remain operational. In this paper, ant colony algorithm (ACA) are used to find the optimal circuitous route, and simulation results show the method is fast and accurate. To the actual communication network of power system, each node is just connected to a few other nodes, so the search process often come to dead ends. Use penalty functions can reduce the probability of coming to a dead end and improve the algorithm efficiency. The whole route accelerating penalty function is most efficient.

Effects of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics in oil-impregnated pressboard insulation under combined AC–DC voltage

Due to the complexity of the valve side winding voltage of the converter transformer, the insulation characteristics of the oil-impregnated pressboard(OIP) of the converter transformer are different from those of the traditional AC transformer. The study on effect of temperature on the creeping discharge characteristics of OIP under combined AC–DC voltage is seriously inadequate. Therefore, this paper investigates the characteristics of OIP creepage discharge under combined AC–DC voltage and discusses the influence of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics under different temperatures from 70 °C to 110 °C. The experimental results show that the partial discharge inception voltage and flashover voltage decrease with increasing temperature. The times of low amplitude discharge(LAD) decrease and amplitude of LAD increases. Simultaneously, the times of high amplitude discharge(HAD) gradually increase at each stage of creepage discharge with higher temperature. The analysis indicates that the charge carriers easily accumulate and quickly migrate directional movement along the electric field ahead of discharging. The residual charge carriers are more easily dissipated after *** ‘hump’ region of LAD moves to the direction of higher discharge magnitude. The interval time between two continuous discharges is shortened obviously. The concentration of HAD accelerates the development of OIP insulation creepage discharge. The temperature had an accelerating effect on the development of discharge in the OIP under applying voltage.

The growing penetration of renewables calls for finer temporal resolutions of the day-ahead unit commitment (DA-UC) problem in order to accommodate the fluctuations and improve the performance of UC schedules, leading to the expansion of the DA-UC problem scale. However, due to its high computational burden, the viability of adopting larger UC models in practice becomes a challenge. In this paper, an adaptive time period aggregation strategy and a corresponding DA-UC model are proposed to reduce the model scale while preserving feasibility and accuracy. The aggregation strategy integrates the statistical characteristics of net demand with the operational characteristics of thermal units to effectively capture the consistency in on/off statuses. Case study based on the IEEE 118-bus system validates that, combined with a post-processing procedure, the proposed strategy and model can provide near-optimal UC schedules with approximately 5 times acceleration for various demand profiles, enhancing computational efficiency. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. This paper proposes a novel inductor which combines multiple powder cores with different material properties, which can achieve optimization of multiple performance parameters. For inductor which combines multiple powder cores with different material properties and flat copper wire, the model of DC superimposition inductance, the model of core loss, the model of winding loss and the model of thermal resistor network are derived respectively. These models apply to all different kinds of powder cores, core sizes, wire sizes and winding arrangements. According to the above models, the impact of design parameters on performance parameters is analyzed, in which the design parameters include powder core material, core size, air gap, wire size and number of turns while the performance parameters include volume, power loss and temperature rise of the inductor. The analysis can provide theoretical basis for design and optimization of inductor. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the rapid development of Energy Internet, the penetration of distributed energy resources is gradually increasing. New methods for potential evaluation of DERs is becoming more and more important for planning, operation, and control. In this paper, the traditional affine arithmetic-based forward-backward power flow calculation method is introduced. Then, modified method is proposed mainly considers arithmetic correction, weekly looped structure, and different types of DG. Moreover, comprehensive potential evaluation structure for DERs is proposed based on affine arithmetic which involves three parts. Finally, through numerical analysis, the applicability and error of the affine arithmetic method are analyzed. © 2019 IEEE.
