The rapid increase of voltage sourced converter brings the great development of the multi-terminal DC technology, both in the DC transmission and DC distribution fields. However, because of the weak impedance characteristic of the VSC-HVDC system, how to suppress and clear DC fault currents becomes a challenge. Considering the stability, the response speed and the system structure, it is not possible to apply excessive inductance at the DC side, hence, the current limiting effectiveness is relatively restricted. On the one hand, with the effective properties, Resistive type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (R-SFCL) becomes an effective device to solve the problem of VSC-HVDC system under DC faults. On the other hand, because of dynamic energy-impedance characteristics of R-SFCL, the fixed impedance selection method at a certain time to carry out dynamic current limiting analysis is no longer applicable. Therefore, the DC fault current research and R-SFCL characteristic are comprehensively analyzed firstly in this paper. Based on that, a smoothing inductance determination method is proposed to cut off the DC fault current by DC breaker and ensure the continuous operation of remaining parts. Finally, based on a multi-terminal DC system simulation, the improvement and effectiveness of the proposed method are validated. © 2020 Institution of Engineering and Technology. In order to solve the problem that the core chips of domestic protective relaying devices generally rely on foreign imported chips and realize the localized replacement of FPGAs, this paper designs the verification peripheral circuits of domestic FPGA chip through the analysis of the structure and test schemes design of domestic FPGA, including board-level verification scheme and data flow control verification scheme. The communication test and random test are carried out to the IP core of domestic FPGA MAC controller. From the test results, it can be seen that the loopback data and the transmitted data in the descriptor are consistent, and the tested domestic FPGA can be competent for its role in the application of protective relaying. © 2021 IEEE.

Joint Optimization of Wind Farm Layout Considering Optimal control

The wake effect is one of the leading causes of energy losses in offshore wind farms (WFs). Both turbine placement and cooperative control can influence the wake interactions inside the WF and thus the overall WF power production. Traditionally, greedy control strategy is assumed in the layout design phase. To exploit the potential synergy between the WF layout and control so that a system-level optimal layout can be obtained with the greatest energy yields, the layout optimization should be performed with cooperative control considerations. For this purpose, a novel two-stage WF layout optimization model is developed in this paper. Cooperative WF control of both turbine yaw and axis-induction are considered in the WF layout design. However, the integration of WF control makes the layout optimization much more complicated and results in a large-scale nonconvex problem, hindering the application of current layout optimization methods. To increase the computational efficiency, we leverage the hierarchy and decomposability of the joint optimization problem and design a decomposition-based hybrid method (DBHM). Instead of manipulating all the variables simultaneously, the joint optimization problem is decomposed into several subproblems and their coordination. Case studies are carried out on different WFs. It is shown that WF layouts with higher energy yields can be obtained by the proposed joint optimization compared to traditional separate layout optimization. Moreover, the computational advantages of the proposed DBHM on the considered joint layout optimization problem are also demonstrated. © 2021, CC BY.

Fast and Safe Heating-Up control of a Planar Solid Oxide Cell Stack: A Three-Dimensional Model-in-The-Loop Study

A fast heating-up rate generally conflicts with the temperature homogeneity of solid oxide cell (SOC) stacks. This study designs an adaptive model predictive controller (MPC) to regulate the heating-up process of SOC stacks. The controller solves an optimization problem in real time to obtain optimal control that shortens the heating-up time by fully using the safety limit. The controller is verified with a three-dimensional (3D) hotbox-stack model calibrated with experiments. 3D model-in-the-loop (MiL) simulations show that the controller is effective under two heating modes despite of model deviations. Under the electrical heating mode, the controller achieves a 33% acceleration compared with a reference control strategy. Comparisons of electrical and gas heating reveal that the former is 63% faster but the latter consumes 41.6% less energy if the waste heat is fully recovered. The hotbox heat capacity is a major limiting factor for the heating-up process, particularly under the gas heating mode. An 80% reduction in the hotbox heat capacity, which can be achieved by reducing the thickness of the insulation layer, improves the heating-up time and the net energy consumption by 69% and 65% under the gas heating mode, respectively. © 2022, The Authors. Cause identification of single-line-to-ground fault in the distribution system is of great significance to the electric workers for fault isolation and rapid maintenance. The key of fault cause identification is to accurately and quickly distinguish human electric shock faults from non-biological faults. In this paper, human electric shock faults and non-biological faults are modeled and fault characteristics are analyzed. Based on the differences between shape and rotation characteristic of the volt-ampere characteristic curves, a fault cause identification method which can distinguish human electric shock faults from non-biological faults is proposed. simulations show the effectiveness of the method.

When penetration levels of renewable energy of power system are increased, the proportion of thermal power units will gradually decrease. This will cause the frequency regulation capacity of the power system to gradually decline. To this end, battery energy storage systems are widely used to frequency regulation in the power system. However, the frequency regulation ability of battery energy storage system to substitute thermal power units has not yet been quantified. In this paper, it introduces two frequency regulation method models. In the proposed models, the influence of different energy storage participation degrees on the effect of frequency regulation is analyzed, and a power and energy indicators system for quantifying energy storage substitution ability is proposed based on the advantages of frequency regulation with energy storage. The simulation results indicate that the ability of energy storage to substitute thermal power units is about 20-35 in terms of rapid energy supply when the installed capacity is same.

Concentrating solar power(CSP)technology has received increasing attention in recent years because of its distinct advantage for dispatchable power generation from solar ***,owing to its highly levelized costs of electricity,CSP plants are less competitive than photovoltaic(PV)power *** overcome this drawback and suppress PV power fluctuations,the concept of a hybrid CSP/PV power plant is proposed and developed.A capacity configuration method based on filtering and checking is proposed to seek a relationship between the capacity configuration of a hybrid CSP/PV system and the cost of solar ***-content hybrid systems with different ratios of CSP capacity and PV capacity are modeled,and their comprehensive performance is *** and comparisons with a standalone CSP system focused on annual energy generation,capacity factor,levelized cost of electricity,and possibility for loss of power supply show that the hybrid CSP/PV systems possess different features depending on their capacity *** results indicate that the proposed method can supply a convenient and simple operation pattern that favors engineering utilization and extension.

55GW distributed photovoltaic have been installed in China, but nearly half are connected to the low voltage level of 380V, without real-time power data acquisition. The sequential power data is needed to be reconstructed based on some related monitoring data. Current researches focus on outliers recovery, but not reconstruction from none. This paper explores the temporal and spatial correlation of power between adjacent centralized photovoltaic stations and proposes a large-scale missing power data reconstructing method based on the time-delay power correlation, the spatial geometric characteristics of stations and the thought of ensemble learning. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulation based on the real photovoltaic power data. The proposed method can get the better effect of data reconstructing compared with the traditional method, which only use the power curves of the nearest CP station to reconstruct the power curves of the DP station according the capacity conversion. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

As an important power equipment in the power system, the electrialc motor is an important part of the transformation of electric energy and mechanical energy. Reasonable prediction of the reliability level of the running motor, timely and effectively avoid the operational risks, can effectively ensure the safety and stable operation of the power system. This paper starts with the motor vibration signal and establishes the remaining life prediction based on SVM(Support Vector Machine). Firstly, the vibration signal is denoised by wavelet transform, and the characteristic parameters such as mean square value is extracted after signal data reconstruction. Further, combined with the characteristic value, the working state is divided, and the support vector machine regression prediction model is used to obtain the remaining life of the bearing. In the case study part, data denoising and feature extraction are performed on the bearing vibration data measured by the PRONOSTIA test bench. The trend of the selected characteristic values is used for evaluating the motor operating state. The characteristic value, running state of the equipment, and remaining life which are extracted from the training set data are input to the SVM, and then the SVM is used to predict the remaining life for the test set. Finally, failure rate of the equipment can be derived. © 2019 by International Academic Publishers Ltd.

Gas-to-liquid (GTL) transformer oil has been on trial in converter transformers. However, its influence on the space charge characteristic is not clear. This work aims at exploring space charge characteristics of GTL oil at different temperatures as well as comparing with commercial naphthenic oil (KI50X). Space charge distribution during the polarization and the dissipation process in the GTL oil-impregnated paper at different temperature was measured by the pulse electroacoustic method (PEA), which were contrasted with those of the KI50X oil-impregnated paper. Results illustrated that high temperature accelerated the injection and migration of charge carriers in the oil-impregnated paper. And the polarity of the accumulated charge in the vicinity of anode changed from positive to negative with the increase of temperature. It was perceived that oil-paper conductivity and carrier mobility grew with the increase of temperature, resulting in the easier migration of injected charge to another electrode. Furthermore, the space charge dissipation rate in the GTL oil-impregnated paper is lower than that in the naphthenic oil-impregnated paper at the same temperature. Thus, a longer time interval of tests or switch operation in the factory test and operation process may need if GTL oil is used rather than naphthenic oil.
