Distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and their association with bacteria and viruses in decentralized sewage treatment facilities

The distribution of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)has been intensively studied in large-scale wastewater treatment plants and livestock ***,small-scale decentralized sewage treatment facilities must also be explored due to their possible direct exposure to *** this study,six wastewater treatment facilities in developed rural areas in eastern China were investigated to understand their risks of spreading *** metagenomics and network analysis tools,ARGs and bacterial and viral communities were identified in the influent(INF)and effluent(EFF)*** dominant ARGs belonged to the bacitracin class,which are different from most of municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).The dominant hosts of ARGs are Acidovorax in bacterial communities and Prymnesiovirus in viral ***,a positive relationship was found between ARGs and *** ARGs significantly correlated with phages were all hosted by specific genera of bacteria,indicating that phages had contributed to the ARG’s proliferation in sewage treatment *** significant concern on the possible enhanced risks caused by bacteria,viruses and their related ARGs in decentralized sewage treatment facilities is necessary.

Nitrate is an important component of atmospheric particulate matter and affects air quality,climate,human health,and the *** was previously considered a permanent sink for nitrogen oxides(NO_(x)).However,this viewpoint has been challenged in recent years because growing research evidence has shown the transformation of nitrate into NO_(x)(i.e.,renoxification).The photolysis of nitrate/HNO3,especially in the particulate phase or adsorbed on particles,can be a significant renoxification process in the *** formation and photolysis of nitrate in aerosol not only change the diurnal variation of NO_(x),but also provide long-distance transport of NO_(x)in the form of nitrate,which affects local and regional atmospheric chemistry and air *** review summarizes recent advances in the fundamental understanding of the photolysis of nitrate/HNO3 under various atmospheric conditions,with a focus on mechanisms and key factors affecting the *** atmospheric implications are discussed and future research is recommended.

Altitude-dependent gaseous emissions from freight trucks along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in Pakistan

Recent increases in emissions from freight transport have caused strong concerns about air quality in Pakistan,following the rapid development of projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC).This study reported the first measurements of on-road truck emissions in Pakistan and investigated their dependence on altitude along CPEC *** from 70 trucks were measured on CPEC highways located in Islamabad(540 m above sea level),Sost(2800 m above sea level),and at the Khunjerab Pass(4693 m above sea level).Calculated emission factors for carbon monoxide,hydrocarbons,and nitrogen oxides from heavy-duty trucks in Islamabad were 12.94±1.46,15.21±1.67,and 10.69±1.34 g km^(-1)(95%confidence level),respectively,for pre-Pak-II trucks,and 12.75±2.80,14.24±3.53,and 10.24±2.34 g km^(-1)(95%confidence level),respectively,for Pak-II trucks,representing 2e20 times higher values than the emission standards in Pakistan and *** altitude increase of approximately 4000 m,with the associated changes in meteorology and fleet characteristics,induced an average increase of 103.6%,86.3%,124.5%,and 133.6%in the emission factors of carbon monoxide,hydrocarbons,nitrogen oxides,and carbon dioxide,***,on-road emissions along the CPEC were mainly influenced by truck *** study will support the budget evaluation of transport emissions from the CPEC trade fleet.

A superior catalyst for ozone decomposition: NiFe layered double hydroxide

Ground-level ozone is harmful to human beings and ecosystems,while room-temperature catalytic decomposition is the most effective technology for ozone ***,solving the deactivation of existing metal oxide catalysts was caused by oxygen-containing intermediates is ***,we successfully prepared a two-dimensional NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) catalyst via a facile co-precipitation method,which exhibited stable and highly efficient performance of ozone decomposition under harsh operating conditions (high space velocity and humidity).The NiFe-LDH catalyst with Ni/Fe=3and crystallization time over 5 hr (named Ni3Fe-5) exhibited the best catalytic performance,which was well beyond that of most existing manganese-based oxide ***,under relative humidity of 65%and space velocity of 840 L/(g·hr),Ni3Fe-5 showed ozone conversion of 89%and 76%for 40 ppmV of O3within 6 and 168 hr at room-temperature,*** demonstrated that the layered structure of NiFe-LDH played a decisive role in its outstanding catalytic performance in terms of both activity and water *** LDH catalysts fundamentally avoids the deactivation caused by the occupancy of oxygen vacancies by oxygen-containing species (H2O,O-,and O2-) in manganese-based *** study indicated the promising application potential of LDHs than manganese-based oxide catalysts in removal of gaseous ozone.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in interest in green manufacturing as a key driver of global carbon-neutral efforts and sustainable *** find the research hotspots of green manufacturing and reveal future research trends,this study reviewed and analyzed research articles from the Web of Science database on green manufacturing from1991 to 2022 using a bibliometric *** findings indicate a significant rise in the number of articles related to green manufacturing since the ***,there has been an increase in the involvement of scholars from developing countries such as China and India in this *** on the literature review and bibliometric cluster analysis on green manufacturing,we believed that future research may continue following the lines of intelligent technology integration,adoption of frontier engineering techniques,and industry development in line with carbon reduction targets.A framework for future green manufacturing development is proposed,with a focus on Chinese *** framework could provide policy implications for developing countries looking to pursue opportunities for development in green manufacturing.

Technical alternatives for coke oven gas utilization in China: A comparative analysis of environment-economic-strategic perspectives

China is the largest coke producer and *** is a pressing need to address the high emissions of air pollutants and carbon dioxide associated with traditional coking *** the nation pursues a transition towards carbon neutrality,expanding supply chains for coking plants to produce hydrogen,methanol,and other green alternatives has garnered significant ***,the relative advantages of these strategies have remained *** this study,we integrate a life cycle assessmenteconomic analysis-scenario analysis model to evaluate various coke oven gas(COG)utilization routes(COGtM:COG-to-methanol,COGtLNG:COG-to-liquefied natural gas,COGtSA:COG-to-synthetic ammonia,and COGtH:COG-to-hydrogen).The results indicate that COGtSA emerges as the preferred option for balancing environmental and economic ***,COGtM demonstrates economic viability but is associated with higher environmental *** being recognized as a significant strategic direction under carbon neutrality initiatives,COGtH faces economic feasibility and risk resilience *** encounters both financial and environmental challenges,necessitating strategic development from an energy security *** projected coking capacity is anticipated to experience a slight increase in the mid-term yet a significant decline in the long term,influenced by steel production *** potential future markets,COGtM is estimated to potentially capture a maximum market share of 16e34%in the methanol ***,against the backdrop of continuously expanding potential demand for hydrogen,COGtH holds advantages as a transitional solution,but in the long run,it can only meet a small portion of the *** can meet 7e14%of market demand and emerges as the most viable pathway from the viewpoint of balancing environmental and economic aspects and covering future markets.

Highly inhibited transport of dissolved thallium(I) in manganese oxide-coated sand: Chemical condition effects and retention mechanisms

Thallium contamination in water can cause great danger to the *** this study,we synthesized manganese oxide-coated sand(MOCS)and investigated the transport and retention behaviors of Tl(I)in MOCS under different *** methods combined with a two-site nonequilibrium transport model were applied to explore the *** results showed that Tl(I)mobility was strongly inhibited in MOCS media,and the retention capacity calculated from the fitted model was 510.41 mg/g under neutral *** retention process included adsorption and oxidative precipitation by the manganese oxides coated on the sand *** with the same concentration of Mn(II)led to halving Tl(I)retention due to competition for reactive *** Tl(I)retention was observed under alkaline conditions,as increasing pH promoted electronegativity on the media ***,the competitive cation Ca^(2+)significantly weakened Tl(I)retention by occupying adsorption *** findings provide new insights into understanding Tl(I)transport behavior in water-saturated porous media and suggest that manganese oxide-coated sand can be a cost-effective filter media for treating Tl-contaminated water.

Efficient Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NOxby hydrogen

Aiming at purification of NO_(x)from hydrogen internal combustion engines(HICEs),the hydrogen selective catalytic reduction(H_(2)-SCR)reaction was investigated over a series of Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts.H_(2)can readily reduce NO_(x)to N_(2)and N_(2)O while O_(2)inhibited the deNO_(x)efficiency by consuming the reductant H_(2).The Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts with Pt loading below 0.1wt.% are optimized H_(2)-SCR catalysts due to its suitable operation temperature window since high Pt loading favors the H_(2)-O_(2)reaction which lead to the insufficient of *** to metal Pt^(0)species,Pt^(δ+)species showed lower activation energy of H_(2)-SCR reaction and thought to be as reasonable active ***,Eley-Rideal(E-R)reaction mechanism was proposed as evidenced by the reaction orders in kinetic ***,the optimized reactor was designed with hybrid Pt/KFI catalysts with various Pt loading which achieve a high NO_(x)conversion in a wide temperature range.

A review and evaluation of nonroad diesel mobile machinery emission control in China

China’s emission control for nonroad diesel mobile machinery(NDMM)must deal with a fast increase in stock as well as regulations that are two decades behind those for on-road *** study provides the first large-scale review and evaluation of China’s NDMM policies,along with emission measurements and an investigation on diesel fuel *** sulfur contents of the investigated diesel declined from 430 ppm(median value)in 2011 to6-8 ppm during the 2017-2018 *** emission control of NO_(x)and PM greatly improved with the shift from the China II to China IV standards,as demonstrated by engine tests and field NO_(x)***,the NO_(x)emission factors for non-type-approved engines were approximately twice the limits of the China II *** compliance based on bench tests was not sufficient to control actual emissions because the field-measured NO_(x)emission factors of all machinery ranged from 24%to 225%greater than the respective emission limits for the *** circumstances adversely affected the effectiveness of the regulations and policies for China’s emission control of ***,the policies on new and in-use NDMM,as well as diesel fuel quality,prevented NO_(x)and PM emissions amounting to 4.4 Tg and 297.8 Gg during the period 2008-2017,*** emission management strategy contributed to enhancing the international competitiveness of China’s NDMM industries by promoting advanced *** effective NDMM emission control in the future,portable testing and noncontact remote supervision should be strengthened;also,the issue of noncompliant diesel should be addressed through rigorous control measures and financial penalties.

Effects of Br−on NDMA Formation During Chloramination:a Review of Influencing Factors,Mechanisms,and control

For the invasion of seawater and the stress of human activities,bromide ion(Br−)exists widely in drinking water sources,and it was found to influence the formation of non-brominated but carcinogenic nitrogen-containing disinfection by-product nitroso-dimethylamine(NDMA)during chloramination(NH2Cl).The presence of Br−leads to the formation of bromine-active species,such as bromamines(NH2Br),bromochloramine(NHClBr),as well as hypobromous acid(HOBr),which are more reactive with NDMA precursors than chlorine-active species,so might promote NDMA *** review mainly focuses on the influencing laws,as well as the factors(disinfection conditions and characteristics of water matrixes)that affected NMDA formation during chloramination with Br−.In addition,the possible influencing pathways are ***,based on the above summary,measures pertaining to reduce the impact of Br−on NDMA production are *** review would provide a theoretical reference for drinking water treatment plants to deal with bromine-containing water during chloramination.
