Enriching the surface oxygen as efficient anchoring site of highly dispersed Ru for enhanced hydrogenolysis activity

While supported-noble-metal catalysts have been widely investigated in hydrotreating reactions,a crucial issue that the catalytic system is still confronted with is developing an efficient approach to gain the high dispersion of noble metals under reducing *** this work,Ru was supported on two MnOx with different specific surface areas(SSAs),and a much higher dispersion of Ru(83%,in contrast to 42%of the other one)was surprisingly observed over MnO with much lower SSA(around one-third of the other one).A suite of complementary characterizations demonstrates that,compared with the catalyst with high SSA(Ru/MnO-H),the MnO in the one with lower SSA(Ru/MnO-L)contains enriched surface oxygen that creates more abundant sites and bears stronger strength to anchor Ru species,mitigating the aggregation of Ru under reducing *** not only enriched active sites(i.e.,exposed Ru),but also created a more electron-deficient Ru domain and thus enhanced the redox property of the surface,leading to the lower barrier for C–O bond *** the hydrogenolysis of diphenyl ether,Ru/MnO-L exhibited significantly enhanced activity(i.e.,6 folds of Ru/MnO-H)and high *** work provides an approach to regulate the surface chemistry of support for the high dispersion of supported metal.

Tuojiang River Basin is a first-class tributary of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River—which is the longest river in *** phytoplankton are sensitive indicators of trophic changes inwater bodies,characterizing phytoplankton communities and their growth influencing factors in polluted urban rivers can provide new ideas for pollution ***,we used direct microscopic count and environmental DNA(eDNA)metabarcoding methods to investigate phytoplankton community structure in Tuojiang River Basin(Chengdu,Sichuan Province,China).The association between phytoplankton community structure and water environmental factors was evaluated by Mantel *** environmental monitoring data were used to pinpoint major factors that influenced phytoplankton growth based on structural equation *** the phylum level,the dominant phytoplankton taxa identified by the conventional microscopic method mainly belonged to Bacillariophyta,Chlorophyta,and Cyanophyta,in contrast with Chlorophyta,Dinophyceae,and Bacillariophyta identified by eDNA ***α-diversity analysis,eDNA metabarcoding detected greater species diversity and achieved higher precision than the microscopic *** growth was largely limited by phosphorus based on the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratios>16:1 in all water *** analysis and structural equation modeling also confirmed that the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratio was the principal factor influencing phytoplankton *** results could be useful for implementing comprehensive management of the river basin *** is recommended to control the discharge of point-and surface-source pollutants and the concentration of dissolved oxygen in areas with excessive nutrients(e.g.,Jianyang-Ziyang).Algae monitoring techniques and removal strategies should be improved in 201 Hospital,Hongrihe Bridge and Colmar Town areas.

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) become emerging pollutants and their toxicities earn increasing *** far,their reproductive toxicities were poorly investigated,and their effects over generations were even less *** the present study,reproductive toxicities of two QACs,i.e.,tetradecyltrimethylammonium chloride (TTAC);tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) were studied on Caenorhabditis elegans with a consecutive exposure over four generations (from F1 to F4).The effects of TTAC on total and initial reproduction showed stimulation and inhibition,which oscillated from F1 to *** effects of TTAB on the total reproduction commonly showed stimulation over generations with the greatest stimulation in F2,and it inhibited the initial reproduction but stimulated the reproduction *** exploration demonstrated that TTAC and TTAB significantly disturbed the levels of spermatocyte protein 8 (SPE8);sperm transmembrane protein 9 (SPE9);vitellogenin (Vg);major sperm protein (MSP);ephrin receptor protein tyrosine kinase (VAB-1);the expressions of vab-1,ceh-18,set-2,met-2 and *** disturbances demonstrated that both QACs impacted the reproductive processes via oocyte meiosis,gonadal support and germline ***,the effects of TTAC and TTAB in parents were connected with those in the offspring,which highlighted the roles of reproduction in connecting *** addition,different effects between TTAC and TTAB demonstrated the anionic influences on the QACs’ toxicities.

Quantifying the impacts of emissions and meteorology on the interannual variations of air pollutants in major Chinese cities from 2015 to 2021

Air pollutant concentration is a function of emission rates and *** accurately evaluate the effect of control measures,the meteorological covariate must be corrected from the *** study quantified the impacts of emission abatement and meteorological condition on the interannual variations of SO_(2),NO_(2),CO,O_(3),PM_(10) and PM_(2.5) concentrations in 31 major Chinese cities using an optimized machine learning-based meteorological normalization ***,the annual average concentrations of SO_(2),NO_(2),CO,PM_(10)and PM_(2.5)were reduced by 86%,51%,99%,86% and 88%from 2015 to 2020,respectively,in the studied cities,attributable to their emission ***,the concentration of O_(3) was found with no significant decrease with the reduction of *** abatement notably improved air quality between 2015 and *** a decline in emissions tended to progressively slow down since ***,the meteorological conditions in 2016–2017 and 2018–2019 were unfavorable for a better air quality,while it became favorable in 2020–***,emission abatement in 2021 further lowered the concentrations of SO_(2),NO_(2),CO,and PM_(2.5),while the emission of PM_(10) *** changes in precursors emissions worsened O_(3) air *** meet the demand of improving air quality,more aggressive abatement measures need to be formulated to synergistically reduce NOx,volatile organic compounds,and coarse particles.

Photovoltaic (PV) power generation in China has experienced promising growth and will further become a significant sector of the power system in the near future. To further utilize the variable uncertain PV resources, the PV power generation resource assessment focusing on a high temporal resolution would greatly assist China in achieving its dramatic solar development goals. In this paper, the installed PV potential of every province in China is measured by the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission based on the radiation intensity and temperature data with a time step of 15 minutes. Thus the real-time PV power output of 31 provinces, along with the assessment results show that China's PV power potential is 4567.0 TWh/year, which is approximately equivalent to 60% of the total social electricity consumption in 2019;as for the spatial distribution, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet possess the largest PV potential in China, with power generation potential of 1281.6 TWh/year, 576.0 TWh/year, and 394.3 TWh/year, respectively;there are large quarterly and monthly varieties in the availability of PV power generation in each province. There are large monthly and quarterly differences in the temporal availability of PV power generation in each province, with the difference between the highest availability month and the lowest availability month in every province generally being larger than 150%, and the PV output also fluctuates considerably during the day in different seasons in each province. © 2024 IEEE.

In the past five decades,global plastic production has increased at an average yearly growth rate of 8.4%,which is significantly higher than that of other basic materials such as cement,steel,and aluminum[1,2].Moreover,the amount of global plastic waste more than doubled between 2000 and 2019,reaching an annual production of 353 million tons(Mt)[3].It was further estimated that plastic accounted for approximately 12%of municipal waste in 2016 globally[4].

Synergistic enhancement of pollutant removal from high-salt wastewater using coagulation-flotation combined process

Sufficient treatment of industrial organic wastewater with high salt and large amounts of suspended particulate matter remains a challenge worldwide. In this work, a novel coagulation-flotation combined process was developed to treat the suspended particles as well as significantly reduce organic pollutants content in the actual high-salt organic wastewater. Four typical inorganic and organic flocculants (poly aluminum chloride (PAC), poly ferric sulfate (PFS), polyacrylamide (PAM), and modified cationic starch (CS)) were selected for compounding to obtain an optimized flocculation system for high-salt wastewater. The results showed that the PAC-PAM with a 10:1 ratio in mass exhibited the best coagulation behaviors with the removal efficiency of turbidity and chemical oxygen demand (COD) being 95.33% and 9.21%, respectively, under the optimal operation conditions, and the sedimentation process of coagulant conformed to the quasi-second-order kinetics. The PAC-PAM flocs exhibited stronger netting, sweeping, and adsorption bridging capabilities, which were conducive to removing suspended particles. When the flotation was conducted after coagulation, the COD decreased significantly by 20.82%. In addition, this combined process could reduce the treatment time by 50% compared to the process with only coagulation treatment. During the flotation process, floc particles companies with hydrophobic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons could collide and adhere to microbubbles and be floated to the surface, resulting in an effective reduction of COD. This work could provide a novel strategy and step forward to design and optimize the pretreatment process engineering for organic high-salt wastewater. © 2024 Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Biochar, a soil conditioner containing significant amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), has gained widespread popularity in agricultural practices due to its advantages in improving soil fertility and carbon sequestration. While biochar may increase soil black carbon (BC) and PAH contents, the quantitative accumulation of BC and PAHs in different soil environments under varying biochar addition dosages remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated the content and composition of black carbon (evaluated using benzene polycarboxylic acids, BPCAs) and PAHs in soils treated with different biochar addition dosages from two long-term experimental farmlands in Ningxia (5-year) and Shandong (7- and 11-year), China. Results showed that increasing cumulative biochar dosage caused elevated contents of black carbon and PAHs, accompanied by decreases in their retention efficiencies. Contrasting retention was observed between sites, with the Shandong site characterized by higher retention efficiencies of BPCAs and lower retention efficiencies of PAHs, possibly owing to its higher temperature, more sandy soil texture, less irrigation, and lower sunlight intensity. Despite both black carbon and PAHs originating from biochar and sharing similar condensed aromatic structures, there was no significant correlation between the contents of black carbon and PAHs, indicating distinct behaviors and fates of these compounds. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing biochar addition dosages and considering site-specific environmental factors for effective soil black carbon sequestration through biochar application.
