Hydrothermal stability is crucial for the practical application of deNO_(x)catalyst on diesel vehicles,for the selective catalytic reduction of NO_(x)with NH_(3)(NH_(3)-SCR).SnO_(2)-based materials possess superior hydrothermal stability,which is attractive for the development of NH_(3)-SCR *** this work,a series of Ce-Nb/SnO_(2)catalysts,with Ce and Nb loading on SnO_(2)support,were prepared by impregnation *** was found that,the NH_(3)-SCR activities and hydrothermal stabilities of the Ce-Nb/SnO_(2)catalysts significantly varied with the impregnation sequences,and the Ce-Nb(f)/SnO_(2) catalyst that firstly impregnated Nb and then impregnated Ce exhibited the best *** characterization results revealed that CeNb(f)/SnO_(2)possessed appropriate acidity and redox ***,the strong synergistic effect between Nb and Sn species stabilized the structure and maintained the dispersion of acid *** study may provide a new understanding for the effect of impregnation sequence on activity and hydrothermal stability and a new environmental-friendly NH_(3)-SCR catalyst with potential applications for NO_(x)removal from diesel and hydrogenfueled engines.

Ultrasonication as anaerobic digestion pretreatment to improve sewage sludge methane production:Performance and microbial characterization

A large amount of sludge is inevitably produced during sewage ***(US)as anaerobic digestion(AD)pretreatment was implemented on different sludges and its effects on batch and semi-continuous AD performance were *** was ef-fective in sludge SCOD increase,size decrease,and CH_(4)production in the subsequent AD,and these effects were enhanced with an elevated specific energy *** indicated by semi-continuous AD experiments,the mean daily CH_(4)production of US-pretreated A^(2)O-,A^(2)O-MBR-,and AO-AO-sludgewere 176.9,119.8,and 141.7 NmL/g-VSadded,whichwere 35.1%,32.1%and 78.2%higher than methane production of their respective raw *** US of A^(2)O-sludge achieved preferable US effects and CH_(4)production due to its high organic con-tent andweak sludge structure *** response to US-pretreated sludge,amore diverse microbial community was observed in *** US-AD system showed negative net energy;however,it exhibited other positive effects,e.g.,lower required sludge retention time and less residual total solids for *** is a feasible option prior to AD to improve anaer-obic bioconversion and CH_(4)yield although further studies are necessary to advance it in practice.

Variability of fuel consumption and CO_(2) emissions of a gasoline passenger car under multiple in-laboratory and on-road testing conditions

An increasing divergence regarding fuel consumption(and/or CO_(2)emissions) between realworld and type-approval values for light-duty gasoline vehicles(LDGVs) has posed severe challenges to mitigating greenhouse gases(GHGs) and achieving carbon emissions peak and neutrality. To address this divergence issue, laboratory test cycles with more real-featured and transient traffic patterns have been developed recently, for example, the China Lightduty Vehicle Test Cycle for Passenger cars(CLTC-P). We collected fuel consumption and CO_(2)emissions data of a LDGV under various conditions based on laboratory chassis dynamometer and on-road tests. laboratory results showed that both standard test cycles and setting methods of road load affected fuel consumption slightly, with variations of less than 4%. Compared to the type-approval value, laboratory and on-road fuel consumption of the tested LDGV over the CLTC-P increased by 9% and 34% under the reference condition(i.e., air conditioning off, automatic stop and start(STT) on and two passengers). On-road measurement results indicated that fuel consumption under the low-speed phase of the CLTC-P increased by 12% due to the STT off, although only a 4% increase on average over the entire cycle. More fuel consumption increases(52%) were attributed to air conditioning usage and full passenger capacity. Strong correlations(R2> 0.9) between relative fuel consumption and average speed were also identified. Under traffic congestion(average speed below 25 km/hr), fuel consumption was highly sensitive to changes in vehicle speed. Thus,we suggest that real-world driving conditions cannot be ignored when evaluating the fuel economy and GHGs reduction of LDGVs.

Chemodiversity of soil dissolved organic matter affected by contrasting microplastics from different types of polymers

Chemodiversity of dissolved organic matter(DOM)is a crucial factor controlling soil nutrient availability,greenhouse gas emissions,and pollutant ***(MPs)are widespread pollutants in terrestrial ecosystems in many ***,the effects of MPs on DOM chemodiversity are not sufficiently understood,particularly under different types of *** UV-Vis spectroscopy,3D fluorescence spectroscopy,and Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry,the effects of three prevalent MPs[polyethylene,polystyrene,and polyvinyl chloride(PVC)]on the chemical properties and composition of soil DOM were investigated via a 310-d soil incubation *** results showed that MPs reduced the aromatic and hydrophobic soil DOM components by more than 20%,with PVC MPs having the greatest ***,as MP contents increase,the humification level of soil DOM significantly *** increased DOM molecules with no heteroatom by 8.3%-14.0%,but decreased DOM molecules with nitrogen content by 17.0%-47.8%.This may be because MPs cause positive“priming effect,”resulting in the breakdown of bioavailable components in soil *** is also related to MPs changing microbial richness and diversity and enriching microbial communities involved in lignin compositions *** the presence of MPs,soil DOM chemodiversity depended on soil pH,electrical conductivity,dissolved organic carbon,soil organic matter,bacterial Shannon,and fungal Chao ***,DOM in MP-contaminated soils featured more lipids and less condensed aromatics and proteins/amino sugars,thereby conferring a lower DOM aromaticity and higher lability.

Year-round changes in tropospheric nitrogen dioxide caused by COVID-19 in China using satellite observation

The lockdown policy deals a severe blow to the economy and greatly reduces the nitrogen oxides(NOx)emission in China when the coronavirus 2019 spreads widely in early *** we use satellite observations from Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument to study the year-round variation of the nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))tropospheric vertical column density(TVCD)in *** NO_(2)TVCD reveals a sharp drop,followed by small fluctuations and then a strong rebound when compared to *** the end of 2020,the annual average NO_(2)TVCD declines by only 3.4%in Chinamainland,much less than the reduction of 24.1%in the lockdown *** the basis of quantitative analysis,we find the rebound of NO_(2)TVCD is mainly caused by the rapid recovery of economy especially in the fourth quarter,when contribution of industry and power plant on NO_(2)TVCD continues to *** revenge bounce of NO_(2)indicates the emission reduction of NOx in lockdown period is basically offset by the recovery of economy,revealing the fact that China’s economic development and NOx emissions are still not *** efforts are still required to stimulate low-pollution development.

Effects of acid deposition control in China:a review based on responses of subtropical forests

For many decades,acid deposition used to pose a significant regional air pollution challenge in *** substantial emission control of anthropogenically derived sulfur and nitrogen containing gasses,both sulfur and nitrogen deposition,as well as the acid rain-affected area,have significantly decreased compared to their peak ***,particularly in the humid subtropics,are sensitive to acid deposition,as evidenced by soil acidification,sulfate and nitrate leaching in stream water,and elevated soil nitrous oxide *** in the total deposition of sulfur and nitrogen,caused a significant decline in sulfate and nitrate leaching from subtropical forest and subsequently in sulfate and nitrate concentrations in stream water,although there was about a 5-year *** delay may be attributed to the desorption of accumulated sulfate and continued elevated mineralization of accumulated nitrogen *** of nitrous oxide,a potent greenhouse gas,also declined in nitrogen-saturated subtropical forest soils,as soil water nitrate concentration ***,subtropical forests in China suffering from elevated acid deposition have begun to ***,the current levels of sulfur and nitrogen deposition continue to exceed the critical loads,i.e.,the assigned threshold levels in accordance with emission control policies,in more than 10%of the country’s land area,respectively,indicating remaining risks of acidification and ***,further emission reductions are urgently needed,also because they will help achieving goals related to air quality and nitrous oxide emissions.

The biosecurity hazards caused by pathogenic fungus have been widely *** the long-term coexistence of eukaryotic pathogens and quorum sensing bacteria in different habitats in environments,we hypothesized that they have social interactions via signal *** this work,we firstly discovered the well-known bacterial signal molecules play an adverse role in the cell morphology and metabolism in a model pathogen Trichosporon asahii.N-Tetradecanoyl-L-homoserine lactone(C14-HSL)was discovered to increase pathogen hazards of ***,which limited mycelium by 52%,but enhanced cell aggregation by 93%.Higher fluorescence intensity of tryptophan(59%)and aromatic protein(2-fold)contents after the treatment of C14-HSL,indicating that aromatic proteins helped aggregate Trichosporon and showed *** analysis revealed that C14-HSL upregulated the shikimate pathway(above1-fold)located in downstream of tricarboxylic acid cycle,which contributed to the synthesis of more aromatic proteins and the formation of larger *** limited mycelial growth of *** attributed to the up-regulated expressions of cell cycle *** fungal transboundary response to bacterial C14-HSL was controlled by signal transduction *** study provides new insights into the co-evolution of bacterial and pathogenic fungi in microecosystems.

Adhesive surface-enhanced Raman scattering Cu-Au nanoassembly for the sensitive analysis of particulate matter

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)has been used in atmospheric aerosol detection as it enables the high-resolution analysis of particulate ***,its use in the detection of historical samples without damaging the sampling membrane while achieving effective transfer and the high-sensitivity analysis of particulate matter from sample films remains *** this study,a new type of SERS tape was developed,consisting of Au nanoparticles(NPs)on an adhesive double-sided Cu film(DCu).The enhanced electromagnetic field generated by the coupled resonance of the local surface plasmon resonances of AuNPs and DCu led to an enhanced SERS signal with an experimental enhancement factor of 10^(7).The AuNPs were semi-embedded and distributed on the substrate,and the viscous DCu layer was exposed,enabling particle *** substrates exhibited good uniformity and favorable reproducibility with relative standard deviations of 13.53%and 9.74%respectively,and the substrates could be stored for 180 days with no signs of signal *** application of the substrates was demonstrated by the extraction and detection of malachite green and ammonium salt particulate *** results demonstrated that SERS substrates based on AuNPs and DCu are highly promising in real–world environmental particle monitoring and detection.

Effects of exogenous acylated homoserine lactones on biofilms in biofilters for gaseous toluene treatment

Biofilters are typical biofilm reactors, and they usually have poor biofilm formation resulting in limited reactor performance. Exogenous acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs) can enhance biofilm formation in many bioreactors based on quorum sensing regulation. However, their effect on biofilm in biofilters utilized for volatile organic compound (VOC) removal is unknown and needs to be investigated. In this study, the effects of the exogenous AHLs on biofilters for gaseous toluene removal were investigated. Analysis of biofilms in biofilters showed that the addition of exogenous AHLs considerably enhanced biofilm growth;the average biofilm concentration increased by 18%. Furthermore, the average biofilm coverage proportions in biofilters with and without exogenous AHLs were 17 % and 13 %, respectively, demonstrating the positive effect of exogenous AHLs on biofilm coverage. In particular, exogenous AHLs promoted the production of extracellular polymeric substances and the microbial adhesive strength of the biofilm. In addition, the exogenous AHLs showed no significant effect on the gaseous toluene removal efficiency of the biofilter. These results show that exogenous AHLs can enhance biofilm formation and can guide the application of exogenous AHLs in VOC biofilters.
