Electrospun nanofibrous membranes with antimicrobial activity for air filtration

Air pollution,including airborne pathogens and particulate matter(PM),has become a prominent issue affecting human health and *** air filtration materials do not meet the requirements for efficient PM capture or do not instantly kill pathogens,leading to increased risk of direct/indirect contact transmission and infection due to the accumulation of pathogens during *** nanofibrous membranes have emerged as a promising platform due to their rich porous structure,finer fiber diameters,good internal connectivity,and the ability to easily incorporate active chemicals for antimicrobial *** this review,antimicrobial mechanisms of nanofibrous membranes for air filtration and PM capture mechanisms of nanofibers were firstly investigated,and various types of electrospun nanofibrous membranes with different antimicrobial agents for efficient air filtration were described in detail,including organic antimicrobial agents,inorganic antimicrobial agents and metal-organic *** hope this work could provide a better practical insight for designing novel electrospun nanofibrous membranes with antimicrobial efficacy for efficient air filtration.

Aqueous ammonium ion batteries(AAIBs)have attracted considerable attention due to their high safety and rapid diffusion *** spherical metal ions,NH4+forms hydrogen bonds with host materials,leading to a unique storage mechanism.A variety of electrode materials have been proposed for AAIBs,but their performance often falls short in terms of future energy storage ***,there is a critical need to design and develop advanced electrode materials for AAIBs.2D materials,with their tunable interlayer spacing,remarkable interfacial chemistry and abundant surface functional groups,are an ideal choice for electrode materials for NH4+*** review highlights the latest research on 2D electrode materials for AAIBs,providing insights into their working principles,NH4+storage mechanisms and control strategies for designing high-performance ***,a summary and future perspectives on 2D electrode materials in the development of AAIBs are provided,aiming to promote the advancement of high-performance AAIBs.

Mechanically robust high magnetic performance Sm2Co17 sintered magnets via microstructure modification with Al2O3 doping

In this work,a small amount of Al2O3 powders(≤0.3 wt％)were incorporated into the Sm2Co17-type sin-tered magnets,obtaining both high mechanical and magnetic *** is found that 0.1％weight percentage of Al2O3 doping is enough to enhance the flexural strength by about 20％(～180 MPa for the case of the c-axis parallel to height).Meanwhile,the(BH)max remains around 219 kJ/m3,and Hcj is 2052 kA/m,which is over 95％of that of the original magnets without *** promising improvement in flexural strength is mainly attributed to the grain size effective refinement caused by Sm2O3 particles including newly-formed ones from the reaction of the Al2O3 powder and Sm in the ***,the grain size of the magnets decreases significantly with increasing of Al2O3 doping up to 0.3 wt％.Espe-cially,the grain size of 0.3 wt％Al2O3 doped magnets is refined by 37％.However,the flexural strengths(for the c-axis parallel to height and the c-axis parallel to width cases)of the magnets decrease sequen-tially and are even lower than that of the original *** microstructure investigations indicate that the decrease in flexural strength may closely be correlated to the larger cell size and the incomplete cell boundaries *** obtained results infer that the flexural strength is susceptible to not only grain size but also the cellular structure of the magnets.

Chiroptical switches based on circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)have shown the promising applications in advanced information ***,a pair of lanthanide coordination polymer enantiomers[Eu_(2)(L^(R))_(3)(BTFPO)_(2)]_(n) and[Eu_(2)(L^(S))_(3)(BTFPO)_(2)]_(n) with light-regulated CPL property are designed,which are assembled by a chiral binuclear triple-stranded Eu^(3+) helicates[Eu_(2)(L^(R/S))_(3)]coordinated with two photochromic triphenylphosphine oxides(BTFPO).Upon the alternative UV and 526 nm light irradiation,the complexes show the reversible photochromism,PL and CPL ***,the luminescence dissymmetry factor,g lum of ^(5)D_(0)→^(7)F_(1)(591 nm)transition shows an obvious increase from 0.19 to 0.29 before and after 275 nm light ***,the emission from Eu^(3+) center is not completely quenched in closed-ring state due to the low photocyclization(Ф_(o-c))quantum yield of the *** partial maintenance of emissive intensity is of essential importance for the monitor of CPL *** importantly,the CPL photo-switching property of the complexes in solid hybrid film is maintained,and still displays the enhanced CPL emission in photostationary ***,the potential applications of the doping film in logic gate and anti-counterfeiting were investigated.

Urea is widely used as fertilizer and is a key substance supporting global food production. However, the traditional industrial synthesis of urea faces the challenges with high energy consumption and serious environmental problems. With the increasing global demand for environmental protection and sustainable development, it is much necessary to develop novel and clean methods for the synthesis of *** provides an efficient and renewable synthesis route that can directly produce urea at room temperature and atmospheric pressure by the coupling of CO_(2) and nitrogenous molecules. In this review, we summarized the most recent advances in electrochemical synthesis of urea via CAN coupling systematically, focusing on the coupling of CO_(2) and different nitrogen sources. And the associated coupling mechanism, catalysts optimization, and electrolyzer design are well discussed. Moreover, the challenges and future directions for electrocatalytic CAN coupling are prospected. This review will provide timely and valuable guidance for others and attract more interests to promote the development of electrochemical synthesis of urea or other valuable chemicals containing CAN bond.

A highly visible-transparent thermochromic smart window with broadband infrared modulation for all-season energy savings

Thermochromic smart windows effectively reduce the energy consumption for buildings through passive light modulation including the transmission ofvisible(TVis)and near-infrared(TNIR)light,and the emissivity of mid-infrared light(εMIR)in response to ambient temperature ***,thermochromic windows that maintain high TVis while modulating TNIR and εMIR simultaneously are highly desirable but still ***,we develop a thermochromic smart window based on a two-way shape memory polymer to enable reversible transformation and achieve TNIR modulation of 44.0％andεMIR modulation of 76.5％while maintaining high TVis(＞50％).Compared to traditional windows based on silica glass,this device shows 4℃ lower temperature in summer daytime,2℃ higher in winter daytime,and 1℃ higher in spring *** is expected that our device can achieve greater annual energy savings in comparison with commercial glass anywhere in the world and promote the progress of thermochromic windows for energy-efficient buildings.

Supramolecular liquid barrier for sulfur mustard utilizing host-guest complexation of pillararene with triethylene oxide substituents

Sulfur mustard(SM) can be absorbed by skin quickly and cause serious system damage via reacting with nearly all cell constituents. Until now, there is still lack of effective antidotal therapy for SM and skin protection is highly important to defend SM. In this article, supramolecular liquid barrier based on pillar[5]arene with triethylene oxide substituents(EGP5) has been designed to impede the skin permeation of SM and further interaction with the skin tissue. EGP5 could encapsulate SM within its cavity, with a Kavalue of(5.10 ± 0.47) × 10^(2)L/mol. In vitro skin absorption test proved that EGP5 was capable to effectively prevent SM from penetrating through skin. This supramolecular liquid barrier was employed on rat models to systematically evaluate protective effect against SM intoxication. Pretreatment of EGP5could alleviate skin and system damage induced by SM and improve survival rate of poisoned rat models from 10% to 90%. Additionally, EGP5 served as protective materials could be highly reused after recycling several times. Overall, these findings have provided the first insight into the construction of convenient liquid material for SM protection.

Polyoxometalates for continuous power generation by atmospheric humidity

Atmospheric humidity is a sustainable low-value energy widely existing in natural environment,which is a promising candidate to solve the noncontinuous and low efficiency of low-value energy power *** the mono-substituted Dawson-type polyoxometalates are constructed to be highly dispersed organic ammonium-polyoxoanion clusters and are assembled into thin films power generators with micropores,working in atmospheric *** optimal polyoxometalates generator with the thickness of 7.2μm and the area of 0.36 cm^(2) produces a voltage of 0.68 V and a current density of 19.5μA·cm^(-2) under simulated natural environment,and works continuously and stably under almost all-natural environments(humidity 10%–90%).The highly dispersed polyoxometalate nanoclusters can form microporous in polyoxometalate films to effectively absorb atmospheric humidity and spontaneously form distribution gradient of water,which is the structural basis of power *** continuous power generation may be maintained by the effective adsorption and utilization of H_(2)O,the huge electrostatic field of organic ammonium-polyoxoanion clusters,and the reasonably designed polyoxometalates containing inorganic small ions with high *** is the first humidity generator designed with polyoxometalates,which may provide a new research direction for polyoxometalates in sustainable utilization of low-value energy.
