Human pose estimation has given rise to a broad spectrum of novel and compelling applications, including action recognition, sports analysis, as well as surveillance. However, accurate video pose estimation remains an open challenge. One aspect that has been overlooked so far is that existing methods learn motion clues from all pixels rather than focusing on the target human body, making them easily misled and disrupted by unimportant information such as background changes or movements of other people. Additionally, while the current Transformer-based pose estimation methods has demonstrated impressive performance with global modeling, they struggle with local context perception and precise positional identification. In this paper, we try to tackle these challenges from three aspects: (1) We propose a bilayer Human-keypoint Mask module that performs coarse-to-fine visual token refinement, which gradually zooms in on the target human body and keypoints while masking out unimportant figure regions. (2) We further introduce a novel deformable cross attention mechanism and a bidirectional separation strategy to adaptively aggregate spatial and temporal motion clues from constrained surrounding contexts. (3) We mathematically formulate the deformable cross attention, constraining that the model focuses solely on the regions centered at the target person body. Empirically, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on three large-scale benchmark datasets. A remarkable highlight is that our method achieves an 84.8 mean Average Precision (mAP) on the challenging wrist joint, which significantly outperforms the 81.5 mAP achieved by the current state-of-the-art method on the PoseTrack2017 dataset. Boosting the Restoring performance of Deduplication Data by Classifying Backup Metadata

Restoring data is the main purpose of data backup in storage systems. The fragmentation issue, caused by physically scattering logically continuous data across a variety of disk locations, poses a negative impact on the restoring performance of a deduplication system. Rewriting algorithms are used to alleviate the fragmentation problem by improving the restoring speed of a deduplication system. However, rewriting methods give birth to a big sacrifice in terms of deduplication ratio, leading to a huge storage space waste. Furthermore, traditional backup approaches treat file metadata and chunk metadata as the same, which causes frequent on-disk metadata accesses. In this article, we start by analyzing storage characteristics of backup metadata. An intriguing finding shows that with 10 million files, the file metadata merely takes up approximately 340 MB. Motivated by this finding, we propose a Classified-Metadata based Restoring method (CMR) that classifies backup metadata into file metadata and chunk metadata. Because the file metadata merely takes up a meager amount of space, CMR maintains all file metadata in memory, whereas chunk metadata are aggressively prefetched to memory in a greedy manner. A deduplication system with CMR in place exhibits three salient features: (i) It avoids rewriting algorithms' additional overhead by reducing the number of disk reads in a restoring process, (ii) it increases the restoring throughput without sacrificing the deduplication ratio, and (iii) it thoroughly leverages the hardware resources to boost the restoring performance. To quantitatively evaluate the performance of CMR, we compare our CMR against two state-of-the-art approaches, namely, a history-aware rewriting method (HAR) and a context-based rewriting scheme (CAP). The experimental results show that compared to HAR and CAP, CMR reduces the restoring time by 27.2% and 29.3%, respectively. Edge computing is a novel computing paradigm that offers kinds of resources at the network edge. In edge computing, terminal users are connected to edge servers via the wireless network and there are various channels in each wireless link. These wireless channels are limited resource while different channel has different cost and service ability. The dynamic changes of users' status make it harder to find an appropriate method to satisfy the BPM requirements of channel deployment. With this observation, it is a tricky challenge to make a trade-off between the system cost(rental price) and the service ability(number of users). In view of this challenge, an intelligent resource scheduling method, named EdgeIRS, is proposed in this paper. In the technical sense, the EdgeIRS method can accommodate most users at the edge with a minimum cost of deploying channel resources in an online way. Its performance is analyzed theoretically and the experiments verify the superiority of the method. © 2022 IEEE.

Requirements documentation is an important activity in requirements development. Embedded systems consists of software and hardware, as well as multiple stakeholders. As systems grow in size and complexity, writing requirements documents becomes more time-consuming and laborious. Based on the strong correlation between embedded system and physical device, this paper proposes to use device knowledge base to support requirements documentation. Stakeholders only need to fill in the intention and device selection, and then the device and system requirements are supplemented by device knowledge. Templates and environment modeling and analysis methods are proposed to further guide requirements acquisition. This leads to considerably simplify and accelerate the requirements document development for embedded systems.

A Comprehensive Study of OOP-Related Bugs in C++ Compilers

Modern C++, a programming language characterized by its extensive use of object-oriented programming (OOP) features, is widely used for system programming. However, C++ compilers often struggle to correctly handle these sophisticated OOP features, resulting in numerous high-profile compiler bugs that can lead to crashes or miscompilation. Despite the significance of OOP-related bugs, existing studies largely overlook OOP features, hindering their ability to discover such bugs. To assist both compiler fuzzer designers and compiler developers, we conduct a comprehensive study of the compiler bugs caused by incorrectly handling C++ OOP-related features. First, we systematically extract 788 OOP-related C++ compiler bugs from GCC and LLVM. Second, derived from the core concepts of OOP and C++, we manually identified a two-level taxonomy of the OOP-related features leading to compiler bugs, which consists of 6 primary categories (e.g., Abstraction & Encapsulation, Inheritance, and Runtime Polymorphism), along with 17 secondary categories (e.g., Constructors & Destructors and Multiple Inheritance). Third, we systematically analyze the root causes, symptoms, fixes, options, and C++ standard versions of these bugs. Our analysis yields 13 key findings, highlighting that features related to the construction and destruction of objects lead to the highest number of bugs, crashes are the most frequent symptom, and while the average time from bug introduction to discovery is 1856 days, fixing the bug once discovered takes only 174 days on average. Additionally, more than half of the bugs can be triggered without any compiler options. These findings offer valuable insights not only for developing new compiler testing approaches but also for improving language design and compiler engineering. Inspired by these findings, we developed a proof-of-concept compiler fuzzer OOPFuzz, specifically targeting OOP-related bugs in C++ compilers. We applied it against the newest release versions

The complexity and diversity of high-performance computer architectures have brought great challenges to parallel application development. Using DSL (Domain Specific Language) to achieve multi-platform automatic parallelization is a solution to this problem. This paper tests and analyzes the multi-platform parallel performance of OPS (Oxford Parallel Library for Structured Mesh Solvers), a typical DSL framework for scientific applications. Two representative structured mesh applications are used in our evaluation. The performance of their MPI, hybrid MPI/OpenMP and CUDA versions generated by OPS are evaluated on the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 CPU and the NVIDIA Tesla K80 GPU. The performance of OPS generated codes are compared against the corresponding manually parallelized and optimized codes. The results show that for the two applications, OPS based approach can generate parallel codes with comparable performance to manually parallelized and optimized codes. This paper further analyzes the differences between OPS-based multi-platform parallel code generation and manual parallelization approaches and their impact on performance. It also quantitatively evaluates the cross-platform portability of OPS, and points out some possible directions of improvement. © 2021 IEEE.

Active power dispatch of wind farms plays an important role in power grid scheduling. In this paper, a data-driven active power dispatch strategy for wind farms is proposed, which uses the key point of minimizing the standard deviation of wind turbines' output power series to reduce their fluctuations. First, to build the optimization problem, the historical active power output data of each wind turbine is collected from the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Then, the objective function is developed based on the idea of minimizing the standard deviation of the output power time series. Meanwhile, considering the constraints of wind turbines' output power and active power balance of the grid, the feasible domain of the cost function is constructed. Further, to solve the proposed nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints, the trust region interior point method (TRIPM) is employed to explore optimal solution within the feasible domain. Finally, actual data collected from wind farms is used to test effectiveness of the designed approach and experimental results show that our method can achieve better output power smoothing performance than conventional Proportional Dispatch (PD) method.

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) have been attracting more and more attention in the research and industry field. Aerial search is a common mission and is intrinsically fit for UAVs, e.g. disaster rescue, remote sensing and environmental monitoring. With the improvement of UAV hardware and software, UAVs tend to achieve better autonomy and accomplish more complex tasks. However,current UAV aerial search is usually hardcoded, which limits their adaptability, autonomy and robustness in realistic scenarios. In this paper, we propose to address this problem by leveraging reinforcement learning(RL) and a recent control architecture, behavior trees(BTs). We develop robust and adaptive UAV systems that can automatically conduct multi-phase complex aerial search, including search, communication and refueling. Experimental results in a3 D robot simulator verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach, which achieves better performance than the baseline.
