Development of noble-metal-free materials with remarkable electrocatalytic water-splitting performance in acidic or neutral media has sparked considerable attention in recent ***,we review the latest research on design and fabrication of precious-metal-free catalytic materials for overall water electrolysis in non-alkaline environment,especially highlighting several optimizing approaches to enhance the catalytic behavior and to realize effective bifunctional *** these involved noble-metal-free electrocatalysts are classified into transition-metal oxides(TMOs),transition-metal nitrides(TMNs),transition-metal carbides(TMCs),transition-metal phosphides(TMPs),transition-metal chalcogenides,metal complexes,and metal-free carbons,as shown in the main ***,the paper also offers an introduction of the fundamental electrochemistry of water splitting before entering the subject,as well as a prospective discussion on mechanism understanding,novel catalysts fabrication,and standardized performance measurements/evaluation in the last section.

Large-scale multiobjective optimization problems (LSMOPs) are challenging for existing approaches due to the complexity of objective functions and the massive volume of decision space. Some large-scale multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (LSMOEAs) have recently been proposed, which have shown their effectiveness in solving some benchmarks and real-world applications. They merely focus on handling the massive volume of decision space and ignore the complexity of LSMOPs in terms of objective functions. The complexity issue is also important since the complexity grows along with the increment in the number of decision variables. Our previous study proposed a framework to accelerate evolutionary large-scale multiobjective optimization via problem reformulation for handling large-scale decision variables. Here, we investigate the effectiveness of LSMOF combined with decomposition-based MOEA (MOEA/D), aiming to handle the complexity of LSMOPs in both the decision and objective spaces. Specifically, MOEA/D is embedded in LSMOF via two different strategies, and the proposed algorithm is tested on various benchmark LSMOPs. Experimental results indicate the encouraging performance improvement benefited from the solution of the complexity issue in large-scale multiobjective optimization.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that numerous animal species are capable of goal-directed navigation using environmental information for dead reckoning. The stable magnetic field of the earth provides important information for the migration of animals over long distances. Inspired by the goal-directed navigation of animals, a novel Geomagnetic Navigation with Temporal Attention-based Data-Driven Dead Reckoning (Attention-DR) method for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) is presented in this article, which only utilizes the inclination angle (I) and the declination angle (D) of the Geomagnetic Field (GF) for underwater navigation without any prior knowledge of the geographical location or geographic map. This article proposes a Temporal Attention-based Long Short-Term Memory (TA-LSTM) neural network by combining history, GF information, and location in time series to achieve the optimization heading angle of underwater dead reckoning. Due to its ability to adjust the utilization weights of local and global temporal information in the path, TA-LSTM possesses the capability to continually update neural network model parameters through a data-driven process during the navigation process. This enables the Attention-DR to achieve efficient navigation in regions without prior magnetic maps and overcome navigation failures caused by magnetic field anomalies. In the conventional person Re-ID setting, it is assumed that cropped images are the person images within the bounding box for each individual. However, in a crowded scene, off-shelf-detectors may generate bounding boxes involving multiple people, where the large proportion of background pedestrians or human occlusion exists. The representation extracted from such cropped images, which contain both the target and the interference pedestrians, might include distractive information. This will lead to wrong retrieval results. To address this problem, this paper presents a novel deep network termed Pedestrian-Interference Suppression Network (PISNet). PISNet leverages a Query-Guided Attention Block (QGAB) to enhance the feature of the target in the gallery, under the guidance of the query. Furthermore, the involving Guidance Reversed Attention Module and the Multi-Person Separation Loss promote QGAB to suppress the interference of other pedestrians. Our method is evaluated on two new pedestrian-interference datasets and the results show that the proposed method performs favorably against existing Re-ID methods. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Decoupled and memory-reinforced networks: Towards effective feature learning for one-step person search

The goal of person search is to localize and match query persons from scene images. For high efficiency, one-step methods have been developed to jointly handle the pedestrian detection and identification sub-tasks using a single network. There are two major challenges in the current one-step approaches. One is the mutual interference between the optimization objectives of multiple sub-tasks. The other is the sub-optimal identification feature learning caused by small batch size when end-to-end training. To overcome these problems, we propose a decoupled and memory-reinforced network (DMRNet). Specifically, to reconcile the conflicts of multiple objectives, we simplify the standard tightly coupled pipelines and establish a deeply decoupled multi-task learning framework. Further, we build a memory-reinforced mechanism to boost the identification feature learning. By queuing the identification features of recently accessed instances into a memory bank, the mechanism augments the similarity pair construction for pairwise metric learning. For better encoding consistency of the stored features, a slow-moving average of the network is applied for extracting these features. In this way, the dual networks reinforce each other and converge to robust solution states. Experimentally, the proposed method obtains 93.2% and 46.9% mAP on CUHK-SYSU and PRW datasets, which exceeds all the existing one-step methods. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Unit commitment (UC) is a central market clearing process in wholesale electricity markets. With the increasing size and complexity of market-clearing models, UC problems become more and more complicated. To improve the computation efficiency, this paper tightens UC formulations with the general start-up ramp rate. Through analyzing their parameters over three periods, units are categorized into several categories for constructing corresponding tight formulations, and three of the categories are beyond existing works. By applying a recent systematic formulation tightening approach on top of these categories, new tight constraints of the general start-up ramp rate have been obtained. Numeral testing results illustrate the tightening process and demonstrate the improvement of computational efficiency when using our tightened formulations.

With rising uncertainty in the real world, online Reinforcement Learning (RL) has been receiving increasing attention due to its fast learning capability and improving data efficiency. However, online RL often suffers from complex Value Function Approximation (VFA) and catastrophic interference, creating difficulty for the deep neural network to be applied to an online RL algorithm in a fully online setting. Therefore, a simpler and more adaptive approach is introduced to evaluate value function with the kernel-based model. Sparse representations are superior at handling interference, indicating that competitive sparse representations should be learnable, non-prior, non-truncated and explicit when compared with current sparse representation methods. Moreover, in learning sparse representations, attention mechanisms are utilized to represent the degree of sparsification, and a smooth attentive function is introduced into the kernel-based VFA. In this paper, we propose an Online Attentive Kernel-Based Temporal Difference (OAKTD) algorithm using two-timescale optimization and provide convergence analysis of our proposed algorithm. Experimental evaluations showed that OAKTD outperformed several Online Kernel-based Temporal Difference (OKTD) learning algorithms in addition to the Temporal Difference (TD) learning algorithm with Tile Coding on public Mountain Car, Acrobot, CartPole and Puddle World tasks. The thesis studies the semi-global scaled edge-consensus of linear discrete-time multi-agent systems under both the directed networks and undirected networks, where the states of each edge are subject to input saturation and positive constraint. By virtue of the MARE-based low-gain feedback method, two control protocols about directed networks and undirected networks are devised respectively to promise the positive scaled edge-consensus with input saturation. Thus we find the sufficient conditions to promise the positive edge states and overcome the input saturation. Finally, two representative examples are presented to prove the results.

In this paper, the cooperative stabilization problem of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems is studied based on a class of distributed Luenberger observers. A given LTI system is estimated by a network of observers. In case of observability configuration or external attack, each observer has to possess different measurement output of the LTI system. Classical distributed control strategies cannot be directly used because they are assumed to obtain identical information. In view of this problem, a class of distributed observers are designed under an undirected graph, which can recover the state of the LTI system by limited local information. By using any single channel of the estimated state, a control input is proposed to stabilize the LTI system. By analysing the stability of an augmented system which involves the LTI system and the estimation error system, some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of control gains that guarantee the stabilization of the LTI system. In addition, some algorithms are proposed to specify the control gains. Lastly, some simulation examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical result.

Tag-based physical-layer authentication (PLA) has gained significant research interest due to its high security and low complexity compared to traditional upper-layer authentication mechanisms. However, conventional tag-based PLA schemes often require strict synchronization between the tag and the source message before transmission, which may limit their practicality and effectiveness. To address this limitation, we propose an asynchronous tag-based PLA scheme, where the tag and the source message are transmitted asynchronously with an intentional time delay introduced at the transmitter. The proposed scheme enhances both compatibility and security without compromising robustness. We provide a theoretical analysis of the proposed scheme, and derive closed-form expressions to characterize its performance. Furthermore, theoretical comparisons with existing methods yield insightful conclusions regarding the advantages of the proposed approach. The scheme is implemented and extensively evaluated through simulations, where the theoretical results exhibit strong agreement with the simulation outcomes, thereby validating its effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.
