Recent methods based on mid-level visual concepts have shown promising capability in human action recognition field. Automatically discovering semantic entities such as parts for an action class remains challenging. In this paper, we focus on discovering distinctive action parts for recognition of human actions by learning and selecting a small number of discriminative part detectors directly from training videos. We initially train a large collection of candidate Exemplar-LDA detectors from clusters obtained by clustering spatiotemporal patches in whitened space. A novel Coverage-Entropy curve is proposed as a means of measuring the representative and discriminative capabilities of part detectors, and used to select a set of compact and meaningful detectors out of the vast candidates. By integrating these mined detectors into 'bag of parts' representation, our approach demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on the UCF50 dataset. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper established a closed-loop temperature control system for a spatially-separated atomic layer deposition (S-ALD) reactor using generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm. The GPC-based closed-loop control system rapidly and precisely stabilized the reactor temperature in the presence of thermal field disturbances. Compared with the proportion-integration differentiation (PID) control commonly used for S-ALD, the closed-loop GPC system attenuated reaction temperature oscillations when producing two-element nano-scale thin films. Furthermore, the proposed GPC system demonstrated the superiority in multi-element nano-laminates depositing efficiency by reducing the settling time with a substrate moving between different reactors. Electrical and optical properties of films verified the feasibility of the proposed GPC system. Finally, experimental results presented that the microstructure of the deposited ALD nanometer thin film was improved with the developed GPC system, compared with the PID strategy. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Spiking neural P systems with weights(WSN P systems,for short)are a new variant of spiking neural P systems,where the rules of a neuron are enabled when the potential of that neuron equals a given *** is known that WSN P systems are universal by simulating register ***,in these universal systems,no bound is considered on the number of neurons and *** this work,a restricted variant of WSN P systems is considered,called simple WSN P systems,where each neuron has only one *** complexity parameter,the number of neurons,to construct a universal simple WSN P system is *** is proved that there is a universal simple WSN P system with 48 neurons for computing functions;as generator of sets of numbers,there is an almost simple(that is,each neuron has only one rule except that one neuron has two rules)and universal WSN P system with 45 neurons.

Spiking neural P systems (SN P systems, for short) are a class of distributed parallel computing devices inspired by the way neurons communicate by means of electrical impulses or spikes. SN P systems with astrocytes are a new variant of SN P systems, where astrocytes are introduced to control the amount of spikes passing along synapses. In this work, we investigate the computation power of SN P systems with astrocytes with the rules in any neuron used in the exhaustive manner, that is, the enabled rule in any neuron should be used as many times as possible at any moment. Specifically, it is obtained that such SN P systems can compute/generate any set of Turing computable natural numbers. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

In this paper, a novel terminal guidance law is proposed to solve the problem of exo-atmospheric interception. It is designed based on the proportional navigation (PN) and the classical optimal sliding-mode guidance (OSMG). It overcomes the shortcoming of these two traditional guidance laws and inherits their merits. Particularly, in the scenario of exo-atmospheric interception, when the maneuvering information of the targets are unavailable, the proposed guidance law has superior performance than the traditional guidance law. Briefly, to enhance the interceptive performance, we introduce the optimal control and sliding-mode control methods to the guidance law for maneuvering target's interception. On the other hand, the traditional proportional navigation law is introduced to intercept the target with a constant speed. After that, a fuzzy switching function is provided to harmonize both situations above, according to the real-time estimation of maneuver. To guarantee the stability of the law, a Lyapunov based condition is obtained. Finally, different from the two-dimensional simulation in most of the literatures of terminal guidance law researches, we illustrate our method in the nonlinear discrete three-dimensional simulation environment by the Runge-Kutta method. Compared with the pure OSMG and PN, the proposed law performs better. © IFAC.

Recently, understanding and modeling human behavior have attracted increasing interests. In this paper, we provide some statistical research on human behavior in Web surfing during special stage called Flash Crowd(FC). Approximate entropy is used to find out the FC stage. We quantify behavior patterns by interval time between two consecutive request behaviors. Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical test is used to estimate the appropriate probability distribution function of interval time. The results show that the request behavior patterns varied in different stages. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A novel statistical method using path integral Monte Carlo simulation based on quantum mechanics to detect edges of interested objects was proposed in this paper. Our method was inspired by essential characteristics of quantum, and based on the quantum particle movement evolved towards the edge position with high probability density in the gradient-based image potential field. The discussion about computational complexity and parameter settings demonstrated the feasibility and robustness of our method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Exponential stability of impulsive positive systems with mixed time-varying delays

This study addresses the problem of exponential stability for a class of impulsive positive systems with mixed time-varying delays. A delayed impulsive positive system model is introduced for the first time and a necessary and sufficient condition guaranteeing the positivity of this kind of system is proposed. By using a copositive Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and the average impulsive interval method, a sufficient criterion of global exponential stability for delayed impulsive positive systems is established in terms of linear programming problems. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2014 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

This paper presents a new method to tune the parameters of the adaptation PI controller of full-order flux observer. The method employs an Immune Genetic Algorithm (IGA) based optimization routine that can be implemented off-line. A novel fitness function is designed to assess both the estimation accuracy and the noise sensitivity of the rotor speed estimation system when each antibodys parameters are employed. The diversity of population is guaranteed by the evaluating of the antibody similarities function. The Roulette-wheel selection is used to choose the parents and large mutation probability is adopted to prevent the evolution from prematurity. The simulation results verify that the IGA has better performance in convergence speed and computation efficiency compared to the traditional GA. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

The H∞ based decoupling tracking control is studied in this paper. A virtual system constituted by the controlled system and the no coupling reference model is firstly set up. The controlled system is driven to follow the reference model to realize the decoupling. And the tracking error can be formulated by the H∞ norm of the virtual system. Then the controller is derived by minimizing the H∞ norm, which can be described by Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). The necessary and sufficient condition of existence of controller is derived based on the LMIs above. A flight control example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed method is of better control performance than Linear Quadratic (LQ) tracking controller. © IFAC.
