In this paper, we consider input-affine invertible MIMO nonlinear systems which can be transformed into a special normal form by means of the structure algorithm. The normal form highlights a partial state, a subset of state variables, which plays in this setting a role similar to that of the outputs and its derivatives in a SISO system. It is shown that, if a system in this class can be asymptotically stabilized by means of a static feedback from that partial state, then semiglobal stabilization can be achieved via dynamic feedback driven by the output of the system. The dynamic feedback in question is based a (non–trivial) extension to MIMO systems of the standard high–gain observer.

In this paper, we consider a class of second-order uncertain nonlinear systems. Besides parametric uncertainties, a non-parametric uncertainty may exist in every state equation or channel with its effects bounded by a known function. Such a bounding function is allowed to depend on all system states which means that the actual system does not need to meet the triangular structure. Therefore the currently available backstepping technique cannot be used to design controllers. To overcome such difficulty, a new backatepping-based robust adaptive control scheme is proposed. It is shown that the proposed scheme can ensure all signals in the closed-loop system bounded.

Optimal signal timing is an efficient and effective method to mitigate traffic congestion in urban road traffic networks. In this paper, we propose a new method for signal-timing optimization of urban arterial roads. The main idea to the method is to design a bi-direction green wave band for arterial roads. In order to reduce delay and stops, an arterial road signal coordination approach is developed. In addition, the arterial signal coordination approach has been expanded to deal with the problem of coordination for urban traffic networks coordination control. Finally, simulation experiments are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This study proposes an efficient mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for a generalized job shop production process. In the process, a workstation contains one or multiple machines and each job visits some of the workstations in a specific sequence. It is allowed that a job visits the same workstation more than once. Although some similar processes were modeled by MILP in previous studies, the models are unable to solve problems that involve more than ten jobs due to high computational complexity. Our proposed model outperforms the best model that is identified among 23 research papers with regard to computational complexity. Simulation results show that our model is able to solve a problem with a dozen of jobs, which is classified as a large-scale problem in the literature.

In this paper, we consider an unstable linear parabolic diffusion-reaction PDE system with an actuator at the right boundary via the Dirichlet condition. We begin to derive the first order necessary conditions for the open loop finite-time horizon problem using the classical variational approach. Then, we discuss the the state-feedback problem, and obtain the feedback law by formulating the Riccati partial differential equation(PDE). Finally, with the feedback law, we could prove the stability for the state-feedback problem exponential stability with any given decay rate in the time domain without solving the Riccati PDE.
