A core-satellite self-assembled SERS aptasensor containing a“biological-silent region”Raman tag for the accurate and ultrasensitive detection of histamine

Herein,a novel interference-free surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)strategy based on magnetic nanoparticles(MNPs)and aptamer-driven assemblies was proposed for the ultrasensitive detection of histamine.A core-satellite SERS aptasensor was constructed by combining aptamer-decorated Fe_(3)O_(4)@Au MNPs(as the recognize probe for histamine)and complementary DNA-modified silver nanoparticles carrying 4-mercaptobenzonitrile(4-MBN)(Ag@4-MBN@Ag-c-DNA)as the SERS signal probe for the indirect detection of *** an applied magnetic field in the absence of histamine,the assembly gave an intense Raman signal at“Raman biological-silent”region due to *** the presence of histamine,the Ag@4-MBN@Ag-c-DNA SERS-tag was released from the Fe_(3)O_(4)@Au MNPs,thus decreasing the SERS *** optimal conditions,an ultra-low limit of detection of 0.65×10^(-3)ng/mL and a linear range 10^(-2)-10^5 ng/mL on the SERS aptasensor were *** histamine content in four food samples were analyzed using the SERS aptasensor,with the results consistent with those determined by high performance liquid *** present work highlights the merits of indirect strategies for the ultrasensitive and highly selective SERS detection of small biological molecules in complex matrices.

Microplastics(MPs),recognized as an emerging global environmental concern,have been extensively detected worldwide,with specific attention directed towards the Yangtze River Estuary(YRE)and East China Sea(ECS)*** their critical research significance,there remains a knowledge gap concerning the distribution of MPs in the benthic layer within this area,particularly regarding interactions governing their *** we illuminate the distribution of MPs within the benthic layer and unravel the intricate interplay between bottom water and sediment in the YRE and *** find that MPs are notably more abundant in bottom water,ranging from 8 to 175 times higher than in surface *** MPs predominantly consist of polyester fibers,exhibit a size range between 0.5 and 5.0 mm,and display distinct ***-occurrence network analysis and Principal Coordinate Analysis confirm a robust correlation between MPs in bottom water and sediment,signifying the pivotal role of bottom water in mediating the distribution and transportation of MPs within the benthic ***,a positive correlation between MPs in sediment and bottom water turbidity underscores the impact of surface sediment resuspension and upwelling on MPs *** study clarifies the intricate interactions within the benthic layer and highlights the crucial role of bottom water as a mediator in the vertical distribution of MPs,advancing our understanding of the“source-to-sink”transport processes governing MPs within water-sediment systems.

To address the imbalance in detection speed and accuracy caused by smoke, flame, and background confusion in campus video surveillance scenarios, an end-to-end campus fire detection algorithm incorporating priori features is proposed. First, a feature pyramid fusion module guided by priori features is constructed to cascade the multi-scale feature fusion module. The priori features are individually pre-trained by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classification network. The feature complementarity between the two is utilized to improve the feature representation of the detection network. Second, a lightweight set prediction detection head is designed. The head does not require manually designed anchors and post-processing strategies, enabling end-to-end detection while balancing speed and accuracy. Finally, a joint loss function that integrates the losses of categorical and bipartite matching is proposed. Focus on the drawbacks of the slow convergence associated with bipartite matching, both classification information and bipartite bit matching are considered in the detection results. Experimental results on the fire detection dataset demonstrate that the proposed algorithm improved average accuracy by 7.8% while maintaining detection speed, effectively balancing speed and accuracy in fire detection. © 2024 IEEE.

In remote sensing images change detection, the results of Transformer often face the low precision and edge fitting problems, which are caused by the highly complex background of building categories and the imbalance of sample ratio. To address these challenges, we propose a Transformer-based differential superpixel selection network. First, a differential superpixel selection module is proposed which introduces difference selecting to refine the edge feature representation of the object region by using the boundary information of the selected superpixel. Second, we propose a multi-scale feature-aware enhancement module, which fuses multi-scale feature differences with the features extracted by the hierarchical Transformer encoder. This module enhances difference awareness while suppressing interference from complex backgrounds. Finally, we construct a composite loss function that combines the focal loss function with the binary cross-entropy loss function. The composite loss function can pay more attention to hardly classifying samples and suppress the influence of easily classifying samples. Our proposed algorithm is tested on the widely used LEVIR-CD and DSIFN-CD datasets. The results show that it effectively improved detection accuracy and edge fitting compared to existing methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Biochar, a soil conditioner containing significant amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), has gained widespread popularity in agricultural practices due to its advantages in improving soil fertility and carbon sequestration. While biochar may increase soil black carbon (BC) and PAH contents, the quantitative accumulation of BC and PAHs in different soil environments under varying biochar addition dosages remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated the content and composition of black carbon (evaluated using benzene polycarboxylic acids, BPCAs) and PAHs in soils treated with different biochar addition dosages from two long-term experimental farmlands in Ningxia (5-year) and Shandong (7- and 11-year), China. Results showed that increasing cumulative biochar dosage caused elevated contents of black carbon and PAHs, accompanied by decreases in their retention efficiencies. Contrasting retention was observed between sites, with the Shandong site characterized by higher retention efficiencies of BPCAs and lower retention efficiencies of PAHs, possibly owing to its higher temperature, more sandy soil texture, less irrigation, and lower sunlight intensity. Despite both black carbon and PAHs originating from biochar and sharing similar condensed aromatic structures, there was no significant correlation between the contents of black carbon and PAHs, indicating distinct behaviors and fates of these compounds. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing biochar addition dosages and considering site-specific environmental factors for effective soil black carbon sequestration through biochar application. Change detection in remote sensing images is a challenging task, particularly when identifying small and complex objects such as buildings. The task is often hindered by issues such as high fragmentation rates, blurred edges, and elevated false and missed detection rates. These issues arise due to the inherent complexity of the scenes and the problem of class imbalance. To address these challenges, we propose a superpixel edge refinement and differential feature enhancement for Transformer-based change detection networks. First, a region-enhanced Transformer encoder is introduced, incorporating a superpixel edge refinement module. This module leverages pixel-level features extracted by the Transformer to generate superpixel feature embeddings, thereby enhancing local and edge information. Second, a differential feature enhancement module is designed to emphasize true change regions while suppressing pseudo-change areas. This is achieved through a dual-branch structure comprising feature enhancement and change extraction, further augmented by a saliency module. Finally, a Dice loss function is employed as an auxiliary loss term, complementing the cross-entropy loss in the construction of an edge-optimized loss function. The resulting loss function aims to balance overall detection accuracy with edge refinement. The proposed algorithm was evaluated on the widely used datasets LEVIR-CD and DSIFN-CD. Compared to existing algorithms, the proposed method effectively improved edge detail and overall consistency while maintaining detection accuracy. Additionally, false detections and missed detections were reduced. © 2024 IEEE.

Combating air pollution significantly reduced air mercury concentrations in China

In the past decade, China has motivated proactive emission control measures that have successfully reduced emissions of many air pollutants. For atmospheric mercury, which is a globally transported neurotoxin,much less is known about the long-term changes in its concentrations and anthropogenic emissions in China. In this study, over a decade of continuous observations at four Chinese sites show that gaseous elemental mercury（GEM） concentrations continuously increased until the early 2010s, followed by significant declines at rates of 1.8%–6.1% yr-1until 2022. The GEM decline from 2013 to 2022（by38.6% ± 12.7%） coincided with the decreasing concentrations of criteria air pollutants in China and were larger than those observed elsewhere in the northern hemisphere（5.7%–14.2%）. The co-benefits of emission control measures contributed to the reduced anthropogenic Hg emissions and led to the GEM decline in China. We estimated that anthropogenic GEM emissions in China were reduced by 38%–50%（116–151 tons） from 2013 to 2022 using the machine-learning and relationship models.

This paper proposes a multi-outlet internal rotating nozzle structure to address the issues of soot generation and friction/wear associated with mineral mining. The atomization and jet characteristics of the nozzle are simulated and analysed using CFD software, and the effects of initial pressure and outlet diameter on the jet effect of the internal rotating nozzle are investigated. The findings indicate that the jet velocity in the lateral exit channel and the canter exit of the multi-outlet nozzle increases with an increase in the initial pressure. Conversely, the exit flow velocity of the nozzle at a constant initial pressure shows a gradual decrease with an increase in the exit diameter. At low pressure and outlet diameter, the atomization effect of the nozzle is not significant. However, the atomization angle increases gradually with an increase in the initial pressure and outlet diameter. Under the same pressure, the atomization angle shows a tendency of increasing and then decreasing with the increase of outlet diameter. And the best atomization angle is obtained when the outlet diameter is 1.3 mm and the initial pressure is 0.7 MPa. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
