Preparation of Co2 Sequestration Materials from Semi-Dry Carbonized Carbide Slag and Coal Gasification Slag: Study on Carbon Fixation Performance of Multistage Carbonation

In order to solve the problems of coal based solid waste disposal and carbon emission reduction, this study used carbide slag (CS) and coal gasification slag (CGS) as raw materials to prepare CO2 storage materials (CSGS-CO2) with low cost and high carbon fixation performance by semi-dry carbonation process, and systematically explored its mineralization mechanism and carbon fixation characteristics. The effects of carbonation stage, calcium carbide slag content and curing age on the properties of the materials were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and mercury intrusion (MIP). The study found that, (1) The calcium carbonate produced by carbonation reaction significantly filled the pores of CSGS-CO2 and densified the microstructure of the material.(2) Although the stirring pretreatment at the early stage of secondary carbonization can improve the initial carbon fixation rate (increased by 11.98% at 1 d), the dense product layer and pore backfill effect cause the carbon fixation rate at the later stage (14 d) to be 28.34% lower than that of single-stage carbonation.(3) The carbon sequestration rate increased significantly with the increase of carbide slag content (18.72% to 38.86%), but the carbon sequestration efficiency increased first and then decreased, up to 53.36% (when the proportion of carbide slag was 90%)(4) The microstructure analysis shows that the process of single-stage carbonation promotes the formation of calcite crystal mystery stacking structure, while in the sample of double-stage carbonation, the calcite crystal generated due to the stirring shear effect shows a random scattered distribution, and the crystal morphology shows the characteristics of multi-directional growth. To sum up, CSGS-CO2 is a low-cost, low-carbon and sustainable new type of solid waste CO2 storage material, which not only opens up a new path for large-scale disposal of coal

Sliding sequential CVAE with time variant socially-aware rethinking for trajectory prediction

Pedestrian trajectory prediction is a key technology in many applications such as video surveillance, social robot navigation, and autonomous driving, and significant progress has been made in this research topic. However, there remain two limitations of previous studies. First, with the continuation of time, the prediction error at each time step increases significantly, causing the final displacement error to be impossible to ignore. Second, the prediction results of multiple pedestrians might be impractical in the prediction horizon, i.e., the predicted trajectories might collide with each other. To overcome these limitations, this work proposes a novel trajectory prediction method called CSR, which consists of a cascaded conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) module and a socially-aware regression module. The cascaded CVAE module first estimates the future trajectories in a sequential pattern. Specifically, each CVAE concatenates the past trajectories and the predicted points so far as the input and predicts the location at the following time step. Then, the socially-aware regression module generates offsets from the estimated future trajectories to produce the socially compliant final predictions, which are more reasonable and accurate results than the estimated trajectories. Moreover, considering the large model parameters of the cascaded CVAE module, a slide CVAE module is further exploited to improve the model efficiency using one shared CVAE, in a slidable manner. Experiments results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits improvements over state-of-the-art method on the Stanford Drone Dataset (SDD) and ETH/UCY of approximately 38.0% and 22.2%, respectively. © 2021, CC BY.

Design of the cheap and high efficiency catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is imperative for rechargeable Zn-batteries (r-ZABs). Herein, the cobalt nanoparticles encapsulated in iron and nitrogen co-doped urchin-like porous carbons (Co@Fe-Nx/C) as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for ORR and OER is fabricated via a facile pyrolysis treatment. The Co@Fe-Nx/C catalyst displays a typical urchin-like morphology anchored with numerous CNTs and many monodispersed cobalt nanoparticles are encapsulated in the carbon matrices, which not only enable effective and fast electron transfer, but also can prevent Co nanoparticles from surface oxidation and agglomeration-induced activity degradation, thus improving the electrocatalytic activities and durability. The Co@Fe-Nx/C catalyst exhibits a superb ORR/OER catalytic activities with a low reversible oxygen potential gap (0.67 V), surpassing the commercial Pt/C and RuO2 catalysts (0.69 V). Liquid r-ZAB constructed with Co@Fe-Nx/C as the air cathode manifest outstanding energy density (802 mAh g-1 ), superb charge/discharge performance and excellent reversibility and durability compared to the precious metal couple catalysts. The remarkable bifunctional catalytic activities are due to the synergistic effect of Co nanoparticles and Fe-Nx/C substrates. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this study, three ball-milled phosphorus-rich biochars (BMPBs, 1-3) were fabricated based on biochar-to-ball ratios of 1:60, 1:80, and 1:100, respectively. Subsequently, their efficacy in remediating soil contaminated with arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb) was assessed. The ball milling process endowed biochar with enhanced specific surface area (66.4-98.1 m2 g-1) and intensity of functional groups (e.g., C=O and C–O–C). The BMPB addition decreased the soil-available As concentration by 21.4%-25.5%, while only the BMPB-3 treatment caused a significant reduction (14.4%) in the soil-available Sb concentration. Furthermore, BMPB-3 treatment showed the highest increase of 67.4% in the phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA) concentration of Gram-negative bacteria compared to the control, highlighting a positive modulation of microbial community in soils. The application of biochar, particularly BMPB-3, was more effective in promoting the development of iron plaques that enhanced the sequestration of As/Sb in rice roots, ultimately leading to 54.6% and 61.3% reductions in As and Sb uptake by rice grains, respectively. Plant physiological responses indicated that BMPB treatment could mitigate oxidative stress in rice roots by reducing the contents of malondialdehyde and proline due to the activation of catalase and superoxide dismutase activities. Partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) analysis indicated that soil properties and the formation of iron plaques after biochar application were pivotal for the bioavailability, translocation, accumulation, and detoxification of As and Sb within soil-rice systems. BMPB-3 is considered as an optimal amendment for remediating As-Sb co-contaminated soil and thereby enhancing rice yield and quality. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Electrochemical N2 reduction offers a promising alternative to the Haber-Bosch process for sustainable NH3 synthesis at ambient conditions,but it needs efficient catalysts for the N2 reduction reaction(NRR).Here,we report that FeOOH quantum dots decorated graphene sheet acts as a superior catalyst toward enhanced electrocatalytic N2 reduction to NH3 under ambient *** 0.1 M LiClO4,this hybrid attains a large NH3 yield rate and a high Faradaic efficiency of 27.3µg·h^−1·mg−*** 14.6%at−0.4 V *** hydrogen electrode,respectively,rivalling the current efficiency of all Fe-based NRR electrocatalysts in aqueous *** also shows strong durability during the electrolytic process.

Reciprocal spin-orbit coupling (SOC) via geometric phase with flat optics provides a promising platform for shaping and controlling paraxial structured light. Current devices, from the pioneering q-plates to the recent J-plates, provide only spin-dependent wavefront modulation without amplitude control. However, achieving control over all the spatial dimensions of paraxial SOC states requires spin-dependent control of corresponding complex amplitude, which remains challenging for flat optics. Here, to address this issue, we present a new type of flat-optics elements termed structured geometric phase gratings that is capable of conjugated complex-amplitude control for orthogonal input circular polarizations. By using a microstructured liquid crystal photoalignment technique, we engineered a series of flat-optics elements and experimentally showed their excellent precision in arbitrary SOC control. This principle unlocks the full-field control of paraxial structured light via flat optics, providing a promising way to develop an information exchange and processing units for general photonic SOC states, as well as extra-/intracavity mode convertors for high-precision laser beam shaping. © 2023, CC BY.

Surrogate model of aromatic isomerization process based on adaptive sampling algorithm

Isomerization is an important part in the production of aromatics. Improving the modeling and optimization efficiency of isomerization is of great significance to industrial production. However, the optimization process using the mechanism model directly takes a long time and the optimization efficiency is low. The surrogate model can effectively approximate the mechanism model and greatly reduce the computation time. The surrogate model sampling method has a great influence on the accuracy of the model. A new adaptive sampling algorithm based on sparsity and nearest neighbor expectation is proposed in this paper, which can balance global search and local search. By solving the optimization problem, we can find new sampling points that reflect the key information of the object function, and then add the new point to the sample set, so that the accuracy of the surrogate model is continuously improved. The results of multiple test functions show that compared with other adaptive sampling algorithms, the algorithm can effectively improve the accuracy and modeling efficiency of the surrogate model. The algorithm is also validated in the aromatic isomerization surrogate model. Compared with other algorithms, our algorithm model error is reduced by more than 5%, and the modeling time is reduced by more than 30%. © All Right Reserved.

Study on mechanical properties of new buffer yielding support material for squeezing large deformation tunnel

Buffer yielding support is an effective measure to control the squeezing large deformation tunnel. Foam-fiber concrete (FFC) has good applicability as a good buffer energy-absorbing material. Through the orthogonal test of seven factors and four levels, the FFC material suitable for tunnel buffer yielding support was prepared, and its macro and micro characteristics were studied by uniaxial (triaxial) compression test, Brazil splitting test, X-ray diffraction (XRD) test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) test and digital image correlation (DIC) technology analysis. On this basis, the comparative test of FFC engineering application was carried out, and the mechanism and effect of FFC acting as buffer yielding support material on squeezing large deformation tunnel were analyzed. The research results show that the FFC has low strength, high ductility, good tensile strength and energy absorption buffering characteristics, and is the preferred material for buffer yielding support of squeezing large deformation tunnels. The research results provide a new idea for the buffer yielding support of squeezing large deformation tunnel.

Study region: Xiangjiang River basin, is at the middle and lower Yangtze *** focus: Increasing evidence shows that large-scale climate indices are being linked to the spatio-temporal evolution of extreme flood events in many regions. It is widely recognized that identifying the response of flood risks to climate factors is investigated by nonstationary local hydrological frequency analysis (NLFFA). However, high uncertainty by utilizing NLFFA usually cannot achieve the accuracy for engineering design, creating need for nonstationary regional flood frequency analysis (NRFFA) for reducing uncertainty. This study presents a NRFFA for extreme flood risk under changing environment that is conditioned on the large-scale climate index. The nonstationary regional analysis is developed in a hierarchical Bayesian framework to support partial and full pooling, which can enhance climate-based regionalization skill as well as retain site-specific characteristics. Simultaneously, the modeling structure is designed to consider the spatial dependence across the *** hydrological insights for the region: Regional models for whole basin and climatically homogeneous sub-region respectively, and local models are compared: the regional models exhibit a great benefit with the estimates uncertainty reduction and allows a better quantification of large-scale climate effect on flood extremes. Moreover, the regional partial pooling model for homogeneous sub-region indicate that the regional model can be further improved by considering a prior pooling stations formed by similar significant climate response. © 2024, The Authors. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a critical component in the fields of aqueous electrocatalysis, of which the real active species always need to be activated under the electrochemical conditions. However, the activation rate is frequently overlooked, critically associated with the reconstruction efficiency at the initial stage of OER. Herein, three analogous Co-MOFs were observed to exhibit different activation rates, involving with the triggering of reconstruction, the dissociation of organic ligands and the losing of Co nodes. The expedited activation rate can significantly enhance the conversion efficiency from Co-MOFs to CoOOH species, thereby improving the utilization of Co element. These findings focused on the activation rate are expected to help understand the fundamental principles of electrocatalyst reconstruction. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
