The goal of prebiotic applications from different sources is to improve the gut ecosystem where the host and microbiota can benefit from *** has already been recognized that prebiotics have potential roles in the gut ecosystem because gut microbiota ferment complex dietary macronutrients and carry out a broad range of functions in the host body,such as the production of nutrients and vitamins,protection against pathogens,and maintenance of immune system *** gut ecosystem is very crucial and can be affected by numerous factors consisting of dietary constituents and commensal *** review focuses on recent scientific evidence,confirming a beneficial effect of prebiotics on animal health,particularly in terms of protection against pathogenic bacteria and increasing the number of beneficial bacteria that may improve epithelial cell barrier *** has also been reviewed that modification of the gut ecosystem through the utilization of prebiotics significantly affects the intestinal health of ***,the identification and characterization of novel potential prebiotics remain a topical issue and elucidation of the metagenomics relationship between gut microbiota alteration and prebiotic substances is necessary for future prebiotic studies.

Effect of phycocyanin-phlorotannin complex on amino acid availability and peptidomic analysis of bread after in vitro digestion

This study compared the amino acid composition, antioxidant properties and microstructure and peptidomic profiles of bread following in vitro digestion between standard bread (bread), bread supplemented with phycocyanin (bread_PC), and bread supplemented with the phycocyanin-phlorotannin complex (bread_UPP). Amino acid composition analysis revealed slight variations among the samples. Antioxidant assays demonstrated that bread_UPP exhibited significantly higher 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity compared to bread and bread_PC. Microstructural characterization indicated that bread_UPP also had a denser protein network compared to bread and bread_PC. Peptidomic analysis identified 11,161, 10,926, and 11,550 peptides in bread, bread_PC, and bread_UPP after in vitro digestion, respectively. Functional annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis linked their parent proteins to immune regulation, cellular repair, and metabolic processes, with enrichment in complement and coagulation cascades and antigen processing pathways. Subcellular localization and Gene Ontology (GO) analysis highlighted their roles in digestion, nutrient absorption, and cellular functions. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis identified highly connected hub proteins, underscoring their critical physiological roles. These findings demonstrated that the UPP significantly influenced protein digestion kinetics, peptide release, and bioactive potential, providing valuable insights for developing functional bread with enhanced nutritional and health benefits. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Municipal solid waste（MSW） is an important destination for abandoned plastics. During the waste disposal process, large plastic debris is broken down into microplastics（MPs） and released into the ***, current research only focuses on landfill leachates, and the occurrence of MPs in other leachates has not been studied. Therefore, herein, the abundance and characteristics of MPs in three types of leachates, namely, landfill leachate, residual waste leachate, and household food waste leachate, were studied, all leachates were collected from the largest waste disposal center in China. The results showed that the average MP abundances in the different types of leachates ranged from（129 ± 54） to（1288 ± 184） MP particles per liter(particles.L-1) and the household food waste leachate exhibited the highest MP abundance（p < 0.05）. Polyethylene（PE） and fragments were the dominant polymer type and shape in MPs, respectively. The characteristic polymer types of MPs in individual leachates were different. Furthermore, the conditional fragmentation model indicated that the landfilling process considerably affected the size distribution of MPs in leachates, leading to a higher percentage（> 80%） of small MPs（20–100 μm） in landfill leachates compared to other leachates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study discussing the sources of MPs in different leachates, which is important for MP pollution control during MSW disposal.

Objective: To develop a neural network model that recommends traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal prescriptions. Methods: We constructed a new dataset of diagnosis and treatment knowledge from the Treatise on Febrile Diseases. Based on TCM's logical principles of “syndrome differentiation” and “state recognition”, a back-propagation neural network model is proposed that simulates clinical diagnosis and treatment. Results: The proposed model is a four-layer BP neural network. Experiments on the constructed dataset show that the proposed method achieved the best precision, recall, and F1-scores. Conclusion: The proposed method provides much more accurate herbal prescription recommendations than logistic regression.

This paper focuses on the photovoltaic (PV) system and studies the dust depositing diagnosis of the PV modules. An unsupervised data-driven method called Similarity-Based Modeling (SBM) was used to deal with this problem and some improvements of this method were adopted. SBM is a nonparametric empirical modeling technology that uses pattern recognition from historical data to generate estimates of the current values of each variable in a set of modeled data sources. The motivation to use SBM is that the mainstream approaches now, contrast experiments approaches and theoretical formulas approaches have many disadvantages. Contrast experiments are complicated and need experiment systems with high-cost. Theoretical formulas approaches are not accurate enough. SBM overcomes them to some extent. Numerical experiments are also studied to testify that the proposed method has good performance in the application. © 2019 IEEE.

Electrically switchable valley polarization, spin/valley filter, and valve effects in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers interfaced with two-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors

Electron valleys in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers drive novel physics and allow designing multifunctional architectures for applications. We propose to manipulate the electron valleys in these systems for spin/valley filter and valve devices through band engineering. Instead of the magnetic proximity effect that has been extensively used in previous studies, in our strategy, the electron valleys are directly coupled to the spin-polarized states of two-dimensional ferromagnets. We find that this coupling results in a valley-selective gap opening due to the spin-momentum locking in the transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers. This physics gives rise to a variety of unexpected electronic properties and phenomena including half-metallicity, electrically switchable valley polarization, spin/valley filter, and valve effects in the transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers. We further demonstrate our idea in MoTe2/CoCl2 and CoCl2/MoTe2/CoCl2 van der Waals heterojunctions based on first-principles calculations. Thus, our study provides a way of engineering the electron valleys in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers for contemporary devices.

Different material tool electrodes exhibit various wear rates in electrical discharge machining (EDM). To make full use of such characteristic, in the present study, different materials disc foils including Cu, Cu-Sn alloy and Sn disc foils were used to construct a laminated disc electrode (LDE) blank, performing EDM to fabricate LDE with stable micro channels on the outer edge surface, and then the LDE was applied in EDM to produce microgrooves on workpieces with the same machining conditions. The wear difference between the single disc foil electrode and the corresponding disc foil in the LDE blank, and the WV-EDM formation of the LDE were studied, respectively. The experimental results show that not all the wear patterns of disc foils in the LDE were equivalent to the single disc foil electrodes due to the protection effect between the foils. This method could effectively fabricate the LDEs with stable micro channels on the outer surfaces. During the WV-EDM process of the LDEs, Cu disc foils with lower wear rates exhibited significant protection and wear resistance effects on the adjacent Cu-Sn alloy disc foils, while the latter provided supportive and stabilized effect in return. Finally, based on the proposed method, the array LDEs composed of Cu disc foils, Cu-Sn alloy disc foils and Sn disc foils were obtained and then used in EDM, the microgroove structures and micro-columnar structures were machined on the surface of titanium alloy. © 2020 The Authors. As an important application of Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) can provide various valuable services which may require computation-intensive tasks under strict time constraints. Most traditional vehicles may not be able to process all these computation-intensive tasks locally because of the limitation of computing resources. Therefore, task offloading has been proposed, which allows vehicles to offload computation-intensive tasks to Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) servers. With the arising and development of intelligent vehicles, the concept of Vehicle as a Resource (VaaR) has been proposed as an important supplement to MEC, which enables intelligent vehicles to share computation resources with nearby vehicles. Most studies in VaaR generally assume that the transmission data rate of offloading tasks from one vehicle to another is fixed. However, in VaaR, due to the high mobility of vehicles, the communication distance between vehicles may change over time, resulting in changing data rate. Therefore, it is challenging to make offloading decisions (i.e., selecting proper vehicles as computation resource providers) while considering adaptive data rate. In this paper, we study task offloading in vehicular networks while considering adaptive data rate. We propose an Adaptive Data Rate-based Offloading algorithm named ADRO, which can not only achieve minimum energy consumption while satisfying time constraints, but also take adaptive data rate into consideration. Comprehensive experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of the ADRO algorithm.

Graphene is a prospective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material in light of remarkable electrical conductivity. Nevertheless, the preparation of graphene through reduction of graphene oxide (GO) is an energy/time consuming process. We utilized Ti3C2Tx as an efficient initiator to achieve the thermal reduction of GO under microwave irradiation. Simultaneously, the continuous networks of rGO/Ti3C2Tx were constructed in sintered composite by locally melting and welding polysulfone under appropriate irradiation conditions. The composite with a 1:4 ratio of GO to Ti3C2Tx treated by irradiation of 10 s possessed an EMI SE of 52.81 dB with a thickness of 2 mm, while the shielding effectiveness of reflection (SER) only reached 4.8 dB. Besides, the intensity ratio of D to G-band (ID/IG) for composite treated by appropriate microwave dropped from 1.20 to 0.74. Therefore, selective microwave heating might be a clean and low-consumption strategy for large-scale production of rGO and manufacture of high-performance composites with EMI shielding property. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

Collaborative passenger flow control on an oversaturated metro line: a path choice approach

Focusing on reducing the traffic congestion on an oversaturated urban metro system, this study investigates the collaborative passenger flow control problem for a metro line. By introducing the timetable-oriented space-time network representation, the problem of interest is finally formulated as an integer programming model, in which the objective function aims to minimize the total weighted passenger waiting time at different stations. Since the final decision is closely related to the space-time path-finding process, the proposed model can also be regarded as a coordinated path-finding process with train loading capacity constraints. Then, an efficient heuristic algorithm is developed to solve the proposed model. Finally, a series of numerical examples are implemented on a sample metro line and the Beijing Batong metro line. The computational results show that the proposed approach can produce high-quality passenger flow control strategies for the metro system, thereby demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm. © 2020, © 2020 Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies Limited.
