A critical review of on-site inorganic arsenic screening methods

Approximately 94 to 220 million people worldwide are at risk of drinking well water containing arsenic > 10 μg/L, the WHO guideline value. To identify non-compliant domestic wells, assess health risks and reduce exposure, accurate and rapid on-site inorganic arsenic screening methods are desirable because all domestic wells worldwide need to be ***, the principles, advantages and limitations of commonly used colorimetry, electrochemistry, and biosensing methods are critically reviewed, with the performance compared with laboratory-based benchmark methods. Most commercial kits are based on the classic Gutzeit reaction. Despite being semi-quantitative, the more recent and more expensive products display improved and acceptable accuracy and shorter testing time (~10 min). Carried out by trained professionals, electrochemical methods are also feasible for on-site analysis, although miniaturization is desirable yet challenging. Biosensing using whole bacterial cells or bio-engineered materials such as aptamers is promising, if incorporated with function specific nanomaterials and biomaterials. Since arsenic is frequently found as arsenite in reducing groundwater and subject to oxidation during sampling, transportation and storage, on-site separation and sample preservation are feasible but the specific methods should be chosen based on sample matrix and tested before use. To eliminate arsenic exposure among hundreds of millions of mostly rural residents worldwide, we call for concerted efforts in research community and regulatory authority to develop accurate, rapid, and affordable tests for on-site screening and monitoring of arsenic in drinking water. Access to affordable testing will benefit people who are socioeconomically disadvantaged.

To address the issue of clutter interference in ground-penetrating radar (GPR) imaging using a VNA (Vector Network Analyzer), this paper improves the traditional reverse time migration (RTM) technique for ultra-wideband GPR imaging. The improved method retains the effective signals in the detection wavefield as the valid imaging area and suppresses signals in non-valid areas. Due to variations in the distance between the transmitting and receiving antennas and the number of anomalies in the experiment, the traditional time window cross-correlation is not ideal for this scenario. The improved method automatically applies reasonable windowing to each data channel, avoiding the simultaneous enhancement of clutter interference and effective signals through direct stacking, and preventing the filtering out of effective signals. Experimental results demonstrate that this method, when applied to real measured data and compared with the traditional cross-correlation RTM method, shows advantages in more accurately locating anomalous areas and suppressing clutter interference. This validates that the Multiple Time-Gating Reverse Time Migration (MTG-RTM) method offers better localization and higher imaging accuracy in practical engineering applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Consumption of fried foods is highly prevalent in the Western dietary *** diet has been unfavorably linked with high risk of developing cardiovascular *** failure(HF)as a cardiovascular disease subtype is a growing global pandemic with high morbidity and ***,the causal relationship between long-term fried food consumption and incident HF remains *** population-based study revealed that frequent fried food consumption is strongly associated with 15%higher risk of *** causal relationship may be ascribed to the dietary acrylamide exposure in fried *** cross-sectional study evidenced that acrylamide exposure is associated with an increased risk of ***,we discover and demonstrate that chronic acrylamide exposure may induce HF in zebrafish and ***,we reveal that acrylamide induces energy metabolism disturbance in heart due to the mitochondria dysfunction and metabolic ***,acrylamide exposure induces myocardial apoptosis via inhibiting NOTCH1-phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/AKT *** addition,acrylamide exposure could affect heart development during early life stage,and the adverse effect of acrylamide exposure is a threat for next generation via epigenetic change evoked by DNA methyltransferase 1(DNMT1).In this study,we reveal the adverse effects and underlying mechanism of fried foods and acrylamide as a typical food processing contaminant on HF from population-based observations to experimental ***,these results both epidemiologically and mechanistically provide strong evidence to unravel the mechanism of acrylamide-triggered HF and highlight the significance of reducing fried food consumption for lower the risk of HF.

In text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP), extracting emotions from textual data is gaining rapid attraction. The proliferation of online content and the freedom of expression on social media platforms has compelled the advancement of more sophisticated methods for the automatic identification of unwanted content. The One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) performs best for feature extraction, while the Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) is well-known for extracting sequential features and classification of textual data. This study proposes a novel solution by combining 1D-CNN with LSTM. Utilizing a context-aware model, this study aims to enhance the detection of immoral posts, including hate speech and other forms of immoral content on social media platforms. Various posts are extracted from social media, which are then processed using Glove word embedding models. It depicts the word representations in the text, which yields the form of a real-valued vector determining the words' meaning. The 1D convolution utilizes a filter window over the input time-series data to extract features. Relying on the acquired parameters of the filters, they act as feature extractors. This feature extraction technique allows the model to distinguish detailed patterns and nuances from the textual contents of posts. The sequential processing capabilities of the LSTM network enable an in-depth examination of the text, capturing temporal relationships and context, which is critical for successful content categorization. To validate the proposed model, we utilized a benchmark dataset, called the Twitter dataset. The proposed model achieved the highest accuracy of 95.37% and outperforms state-of-the-art works. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Obstacle avoidance is essential for an omnidirectional mobile robotic arm (OMRA) to accomplish a given task in a complex environment. To make OMRA accomplish repetitive motion, obstacle avoidance, and trajectory tracking tasks in complex dynamic environments with the presence of obstacles and external disturbances, a new noise-suppressed repetitive motion obstacle avoidance (NSRMOA) scheme is proposed. As established previously many OMRA motion planning assumes that the simulation is noise free. However, noise interference may prevent OMRA from accomplishing repetitive motion, obstacle avoidance, and trajectory tracking tasks, which may lead to task failure. The proposed the NSRMOA scheme with intrinsic noise suppression can solve external noise interference, so that the OMRA can accomplish the repetitive motion, obstacle avoidance and trajectory tracking tasks in the presence of external noise interference. Finally, the optimal solution of the NSRMOA scheme can be effectively obtained by using recurrent neural network (RNN). The effectiveness and accuracy of the scheme are verified by examples and comparisons. © 2023 IEEE.

Here, we propose a 3D SLAM method with laser-based measurements. We extended the regionalized Gaussian process (GP) map construction algorithm, used in 2D situations, to a 3D scenario. A major improvement to the algorithm was made where multiple-direction functional relationships were assumed in a sub-region. From this improvement, a new kind of map representation is proposed, which is named as GP map. The GP map, with a point-cloud like, is a dense map representation, which can fully depict the environment structure. Based on this new map representation, we designed the state estimation method and the map update methods using simple and clear mathematics.
