This paper investigates the setpoints compensation for a class of complex industrial processes. Plants at the device layer are controlled by the local regulation controllers, and a multirate output feedback control approach for setpoint compensation is proposed such that the subsystems can reach the dynamically changed setpoints and the given economic objective can also be tracked via certain economic performance index (EPI). First, a sampled-data multivariable direct output feedback proportional integral (PI) controller is designed to regulate the performance of the subsystems. Second, the outputs and control inputs of the plants at the device layer are sampled at operation layer sampling time to form an EPI. Thus the multirate problem is solved by a lifting method. Third, static setpoints are generated by real time optimization (RTO) and the dynamic setpoints are calculated by the compensator according to the error between the EPI and objective at each operation layer step. Finally, a rougher flotation process model is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Rolling imprint lithography is an enabling technique for the mass production of ultra-precision micro-structured surfaces which are widely used in high value added optical products such as backlight guides for display devices. The accuracy of the produced micro-structured surfaces relies heavily on the master roller of which quality is difficult to be controlled by traditional off-line measurement process due to the large dimension and heavy weight of the workpiece. This paper presents a CCD based non-contact measurement system to perform the on-machine measurement of the structure pattern on machined rollers. Instead of measuring each single structure on the roller, the system is more focused on the characterization of the conformance of the structure pattern with the designer's requirement. Low angle monochromatic light is used to extract the structure pattern on the machined roller using a high magnification objective lens with a high resolution CCD sensor. The image processing techniques are then employed to characterize the captured image based on the designed pattern structure. The developed system has been mounted on a single-point diamond turning machine to measure the machined structured roller, and the results indicate that the developed measurement system is able to perform the on-machine measurement and characterization of the structure pattern of the machined roller with sub-micrometre accuracy. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The accuracy of GPS/INS integrated navigation system will decline when GPS is disturbed or outages occur. In order to solve this problem, a GPS/INS/Speed Log integrated navigation system based on measurement-based adaptive Kalman filtering algorithm (MAKF) and priori velocity information is put forward. MAKF uses the short-term high-precision feature of INS to get the adaptive estimation of GPS measurement noises and modify the observation error covariance. When GPS outages occur, the navigation system will work in INS/Speed Log integrated mode, meanwhile it takes advantages of priori velocity information to improve the observability of system. The simulation results confirm that this system is superior to the improved Sage-Husa adaptive filtering algorithm in filtering precision and stability when GPS measurement noises are changing. And it has a much better performance than INS works alone during GPS outages. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper discusses the energy minimization problem of a class of chaotic systems, and constructs an optimal neuro-controller based on adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm. To learn the optimal performance index and control policy, an iterative algorithm is established. To prove the convergence of the presented iterative algorithm, theorems with rigorous and detailed proofs are given. It is proven that the iterative performance index functions are monotone decreasing and converge to the minimum energy. A simulation example is used to indicate that the presented energy minimization control method is effective. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Background: Mass spectrometry (MS) has evolved to become the primary high throughput tool for proteomics based biomarker discovery. Until now, multiple challenges in protein MS data analysis remain: large-scale and complex data set management;MS peak identification, indexing;and high dimensional peak differential analysis with the concurrent statistical tests based false discovery rate (FDR). "Turnkey" solutions are needed for biomarker investigations to rapidly process MS data sets to identify statistically significant peaks for subsequent validation. Findings. Here we present an efficient and effective solution, which provides experimental biologists easy access to "cloud" computing capabilities to analyze MS data. The web portal can be accessed at. Conclusions: Presented web application supplies large scale MS data online uploading and analysis with a simple user interface. This bioinformatic tool will facilitate the discovery of the potential protein biomarkers using MS. © 2013 Ji et al.;licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

Nonlinear time-varying systems exist widely in practice. However, many adaptive control schemes developed for such systems require their parameters to be slowly time-varying. This paper presents an adaptive modular control scheme for parametric strict feedback nonlinear time-varying systems. The parameters considered include continuously time-varying or discontinuous piece-wise constant parameters and they are not necessarily restricted to be slowly time-varying or infrequent jumping. It is shown that the proposed control scheme can guarantee the uniform boundedness of all closed-loop system signals. The performance of the tracking error in the mean square sense with respect to the parameter variation rate is also established.

The Neural-Network Ensemble (NNE) is a very effective method where the outputs of separately trained neural networks are combined to perform the prediction. In this paper, we introduce the improved Neural Network Ensemble (INNE) in which each component forward neural network (FNN) is optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) and back-propagation (BP) algorithm. At the same time, the ensemble weights are trained by Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution cooperative algorithm(PSO-DE). We take two obviously different populations to construct our algorithm, in which one population is trained by PSO and the other is trained by DE. In addition, we incorporate the fitness value from last iteration into the velocity updating to enhance the global searching ability. Our experiments demonstrate that the improved NNE is superior to existing popular NNE. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Due to the problems of the traditional mixed injection molding production, such as unsatisfactory of the injection molding machine cylinder temperature control, the dispersed devices, the low automation degree and the lack of supervision for the whole production process, the production line of the mixed injection molding machine has been modified. The fuzzy self-adaptive PID control method is used to improve the temperature control accuracy and stability. Two sets of equipments of the injection molding machine have been communicated via the bus technology to realize automation production. And the computer monitoring system has been designed by VB technology to monitor the operating status and parameters of the entire production process. This transformation design can achieve to shorten production cycle, reduce labor costs and covering area, and also improve the production automation level and efficiency. © (2013)Trans Tech Publications,Switzerland.

Detection and compression of the environmental information incrementally is useful when the mobile robot needs to continuously update its perception database online. In this paper, we propose an incremental subspace fusion method for abstract map building of mobile robot. We firstly adopt PCA to preprocess the panoramic images taken from omnidirectional camera at corresponding location, which can optimally extracts the local map features formed in the subspace and reduces the uncorrelated features. This enables robot to memorize the environmental features incrementally when it travels in an unknown environment. Experimental results are shown finally.

The linear and multi-hop transmission feature of wireless sensor networks on city drainage pipelines, roads, power lines and other monitoring occasions, is easy to lead to energy imbalance consumption of the network node and premature failure of the monitoring network. In this paper, the linear wireless sensor networks with sensor nodes uniformly distributed and emission capacity restricted is taken as the research object, the network energy consumption characteristic is analyzed. Network efficiency taked as optimization objective, then an efficient node deployment algorithm is proposed. Combining with network performance requirements, the optimal relay node deployment scheme and node forwards the data flow is solved to balance energy consumption and prolong the network life. Results of theoretical analysis and simulation show that the method of nodes placement and topology control can delay the “energy hole” problem and improve network efficiency. The researches for guiding nodes placement of linear wireless sensor networks is of great significance.
