This paper is concerned with the identification of multiple model process with transition using the output error (OE) method. Local multiple linear models with output error model structure are identified at fixed operating points first and then a global nonlinear model is approximated by interpolating the multiple linear models with exponential weighting functions. With all the obtained initial values of the system's parameters, nonlinear optimization strategy is implemented to find the optimal values of the parameters for both the local multiple models and their corresponding weighting functions. Finally a more accurate global model can be obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through simulation examples.

Hysteresis nonlinearity exists in many physical actuators and actuator failures seem inevitable in practice. However, there is still no result available to compensate for failures of hysteric actuators in the design of controllers based on adaptive approaches. In this paper, we address such a problem by considering controlling a class of unknown nonlinear systems with multiple hysteric actuators. Two schemes are presented to design control signals for these actuators. Both schemes can accommodate uncertain patterns, values and time of actuator failures, in addition to system parametric uncertainties. It is shown that the designed controllers can compensate for failure and hysteresis effects of the actuators in the sense that system stability and tracking performance are maintained no matter whether this is any actuator failure or not. © 2011 AACC American Automatic control Council.

Abstract A new framework to design immersion and invariance adaptive controllers for nonlinearly parameterized, nonlinear systems was recently proposed by the authors. The key step is the construction of a monotone mapping, via a suitable selection of a controller tuning function, which has to satisfy some integrability conditions—this translates into the need to solve a partial differential equation (PDE). In this paper this result is extended providing some answers to the questions of characterization of “monotonizable” systems and solvability of the PDE. First, adding to the design a nonlinear dynamic scaling, we obviate the need to solve the PDE. Second, for the case of factorizable nonlinearities , the following results are established. (i) It is shown that the monotonicity condition is satisfied if a linear matrix inequality is feasible. (ii) Directly verifiable involutivity conditions that ensure the solution of the PDE are presented. (iii) An explicit formula for the required tuning function is given, provided the regressor matrix satisfies some rank conditions. Hence, adding a dynamic scaling, this yields a constructive solution to the problem.

Output Feedback Adaptive Robust Learning control of a Class of Nonlinear systems with Periodic Disturbances

Abstract In this paper, a discontinuous projection-based output feedback adaptive robust learning control (OARLC) scheme is constructed for a class of nonlinear systems in a semi-strict feedback form by incorporating an observer and a dynamic normalization signal. Since only output signal is available for measurement, an observer is firstly designed to provide exponentially convergent estimates of the unmeasurable states. Using certain known basis functions to capture the characteristics of unknown general periodic disturbances, the discontinuous projection type adaptation law can then be used to tune the amplitudes of those basis functions on-line to recover the unknown general periodic disturbances asymptotically. The estimation errors due to the unknown initial states, uncompensated disturbances, and the uncertain nonlinearities are also effectively dealt with via certain robust feedback at each step of the proposed OARLC backstepping design. The resulting controller achieves a guaranteed transient and a prescribed final tracking accuracy for output tracking performance. In addition, when the general periodic disturbances fall within the approximation ranges of the periodic basis functions, asymptotic output tracking performance is achieved as well.

It is well known that hysteresis often exists and failures may occur in practical actuators during system operation. The compensation for uncertainties caused by unknown hysteresis and unknown failures is an important problem in ensuring system stability and performances. However, available results based on adaptive approaches to address such a problem are still very limited. In this paper, an adaptive tracking control scheme is proposed to solve such a problem. Simulation results also illustrate the effectiveness of the control scheme.

controller switching algorithms used for Unfalsified Adaptive control are investigated. The concept of interfalsification, a generalization of the existing ε-hysteresis algorithm, is defined; the concept of self-falsification is introduced; and the two concepts are compared. New controller switching algorithms are designed based on the idea of self-falsification. These algorithms relax the assumption that the cost function be monotonically nondecreasing in time, and are thus more flexible than the existing inter-falsification algorithm. Simulations illustrate that the self-falsification algorithms can be used with non-monotone cost functions.

In this paper, a heuristic algorithm which embedded in the Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is proposed to obtain the near optimal solution to minimize the total weighted complete time in the Hybrid flow shop problem (HFS). Compared with the original precedence capacity relaxation algorithm proposed by Tang et al. in [6], our algorithm can produce a better solution in most cases. ©2010 IEEE.

The paper considers the problem of tracking control of a class of nonlinear systems with unknown periodic time-varying parameters via dynamic output feedback. Both matched disturbances and unmatched disturbances are considered. A new method for asymptotic rejection of multiple general periodic disturbances is presented. The method can guarantee that all signals in the closed loop system are bounded and the tracking error approaches zero.

In order to make a live flexible manufacturing system (FMS) in which resources and buffers are shared, Liu et al. used the buffer pre-allocation rule to greatly reduce deadlock states and proposed a buffer partition policy to forbid the remaining deadlock states. They also defined a subclass of Petri nets called resource-shared assembly net with buffers (RSANB) to characterize the rule and policy. Nevertheless, only one resource in the FMSs modeled by RSANB can be used in each step in their policy, so its modeling power is limited. This paper indicates that the buffer pre-allocation rule and buffer partition policy can also be used to prevent deadlocks in FMSs in which multiple resources can be used in each step. Subsequently, an extension of RSANB, called extended resource-shared assembly net with buffers (ERSANB), is defined to show the extended application of this rule and policy. Finally, its application is demonstrated by an FMS example. © 2010 IEEE.
