In this paper, a novel discrete-time iterative zero-sum adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) algorithm is developed for solving the optimal control problems of nonlinear systems. Two iteration processes, which are lower and upper iterations, are employed to solve the lower and upper value functions, respectively. Arbitrary positive semi-definite functions are acceptable to initialize the upper and lower iterations of the iterative zero-sum ADP algorithm. It is proven that the upper and lower value functions converge to the optimal performance index function if the optimal performance index function exists, where the existence criterion of the optimal performance index function is unnecessary. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the effective performance of the present method.

Software simulation and real environment running parallel execution is a lately proposed method, which also provides full coverage and convenience to accomplish autonomous driving education purpose. This paper introduces a new high-school iSTEM program of autonomous vehicles education. This program uses a Scaled RC-Car platform with several sensors and Raspberry Pi embedded platform, to build an autonomous driving car in scaled indoor simulation environment. The RC-Car is capable of safely autonomous driving. Many existing algorithms are put together to provide the necessary functions of autonomous driving, such lane detection, obstacle detection, lane following, vehicle control etc. In this paper, we provide the details of this program, hardware and software components of the RC-Car, Deep learning end-to-end approaching of algorithm deployment, and future works.

This paper, considering constrained inputs, focuses on designing the optimal controller for discrete-time H∞ tracking control problems. The neural-network-based iterative learning algorithm is deemed to be an excellent method to work. The iterative heuristic dynamic programming algorithm is employed for developing the formulated regulation of the tracking error. Strict convergence guarantees are given to support the optimality of the adaptive algorithm. A neural-network-based training scheme is adopted to implement the learning algorithm and stabilize the system in the optimal manner. Two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the applicability and good performance of the designed tracking control scheme.

Relative to conventional self-contained battery technologies, there are many advantages for VRFB using on large, utility-scale bulk energy storage application. During design the large scale VRFB system, the reduction of shunt current has always been focused on. The paper explored a stacks string model based on MultiSim™ software package to analyze and optimize shunt loss. Numerical analysis and optimization result express that the extra pipe resistance breaks the straight-line manifold voltage distribution, the degree of voltage redistribution depends on the resistance of stack feed piping, and shunt geometry optimization ranges are often limited by constrains and considerations.

Quantum state tomography is one of the critical tasks in the development of quantum technology. This paper further investigates the adaptive linear regression estimation (ALRE) method that was developed recently for state reconstruction of qubit systems. In this method, adaptive measurements are used to improve the performance of state reconstruction where current measurement basis is adaptively optimized based on previous knowledge through minimizing an index related to the mean squared error (MSE). The numerical results on single-qubit and two-qubit systems demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed adaptive estimation method over static one for quantum state reconstruction. © 2017

This paper provides a dual-mode real-time lip-sync system for a bionic dinosaur robot. Different from traditional mono-modality control systems, our system is constructed with different controllers and classifiers in both time domain and frequency domain. Specially, a classifier in time domain is designed to extract the sound features including pitch and intensity. Meanwhile, a nonlinear mapping relationship between time-domain feature parameters and mouth open angles is particularly designed. In time domain, an efficient algorithm consisting of original and modified short-term average amplitude difference function (AMDF) is applied for frequency measurement. With the goal of predicting the curve of mouth open, we train the audio data of dinosaurs to get a frequency classifier by Support Vector Machine with racial basis function (RBF-SVM), which has a relatively high accuracy. Finally, extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of this proposed system on a real bionic dinosaur robot.

Hot work die steels are extensively applied in hot forming, where dies are subjected to high temperature and mechanical stresses and are prone to fatigue failure. A novel approach was proposed to synergistically manipulate hot work die steels by increasing Cr content and introducing TiC nanoparticles, showing far superior oxidation resistance and hot-cold alternating fatigue resistance compared to the international high-end DIEVAR die steels. On the one hand, the introduction of ceramic nanoparticles contributed to the enhanced oxidation resistance of the steels by promoting the formation of a thicker and denser Cr 2 O 3 oxide film on the steels surface. On the other hand, the high-temperature microstructure stability and tempering resistance of steels were also improved through microstructure refinement and matrix strengthening. This effectively inhibited the initiation and propagation of hot-cold fatigue cracks, thereby significantly improving the resistance of steels to hot-cold alternating fatigue. This work provides a theoretical basis for understanding the modification of the high-performance hot work die steels.

With the abundance of online big data and computing resources, as well as the rapid develop-ment and diversification of business models, programmatic advertising (PA) has emerged and become the mainstream and one of the most promising advertising channels in recent years. As an effective way to precision marketing, PA relies heavily on the information elicited from analyzing Web users and pages, which can help advertisers precisely identify their best-matched audiences and evaluate the ad impressions in a real-time fashion In PA markets, publishers serve as the supplier of ad impressions, and have control on whether, what and how to reveal such key information to advertisers. These decisions play a central role in the information structure of data-driven PA markets, and attract intensive research interests. In this paper, we strive to investigate publishers’ rational preference over the symmetric and asymmetric information structures, with the aim of maximizing their revenues. Our model views publishers’ revenue as a function of the information structure among advertisers, and we hereby proved its convexity under an incentive compatible mechanism. This conclusion indicates that publishers prefer an asymmetric information structure rather than a symmetric one. Our research findings can help improve publishers’ revenue, and also can explain the underlying rationale for the hybrid PA markets mixed by public real-time bidding and private marketplaces. © 2017

This paper investigates a distributed finite-time attitude synchronization and tracking problem of multiple spacecraft when a time varying reference signal is available to only a subset of group members. Modified Rodrigues parameters are used for attitude representation. A two layer sliding mode surface with fast non-singular terminal sliding mode surface (FNTSMS) as the inner layer and terminal sliding mode surface (TSMS) as the outer layer is used to create a full order sliding mode surface. The proposed distributed attitude coordination control law guarantees attitude synchronization and tracking as long as their exists atleast one spacecraft that has a direct access to the virtual leader's time varying attitude. Finite-time stability of the closed loop system is guaranteed by Lyapunov-based stability method. Simulation results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed control strategy.
