This paper proposes a coordination control strategy of voltage source converter based multi-terminal DC (VSC-MTDC) transmission system for integrating large-scale offshore wind power. Using a typical five-terminal DC transmission system as an example, coordination control strategy based on local controller among converter stations is proposed. Based on the DC voltage-active power characteristic, improved control strategy for auxiliary converter station and APC converter station are proposed respectively. Also the working mode of the two converter stations is analyzed. The basis of parameter selection of auxiliary converter station and APC converter station is presented due to DC power flow distribution and maximum and minimum operational mode. Finally, simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC are conducted to validate the multi-point DC voltage control method under various operating state in normal, master converter station fault and auxiliary converter station fault conditions respectively. Results show that this method can guarantee the active power allocation of VSC-MTDC transmission system and good control effects are obtained.

OFDM is promising for underwater acoustic (UWA) communications due to its potential to combat the large delay spread. However, the performance of the OFDM system is seriously deteriorated by the inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by the transmitter/receiver motion and ocean waves. In this paper, we propose a novel ICI countermeasure. The key idea is to inactivate partial subcarriers according to index modulation and meanwhile transmit signals with opposite polarity on two adjacent active subcarriers for ICI self cancellation. Simulation results validate that the proposed scheme achieves much better bit error rate (BER) performance than many existing schemes in UWA communications.

The design of a distributed real-time database based on cloud theory is proposed. A distributed indexing mechanism is researched to achieve more efficient management of industrial data. A real-time transaction scheduling algorithm in distributed environment is designed to improve transaction processing efficiency. A network dynamic routing and business related load balancing mechanism is researched to deal with modification of system scale and make full use of system resources. These technologies are utilized to implement distributed real-time database for large-scale process industry. Experimental results show that the cloud-based database has better performance and significantly improves data throughput, fault tolerance and scalability.

One of the most difficult challenges in automatic face recognition is computing facial similarity between two images captured in different modalities, called heterogeneous face recognition. In this paper, we propose a novel method, named as coupled latent least squares regression, to improve the heterogeneous face recognition performance. The basic assumption is that the images of one person captured in different modalities can be viewed as modality-specific transforms of a latent ideal object. We formulate this assumption in the least squares regression framework, so as to learn the coupled transforms for different modalities. In particular, the local consistency information in the each modality is considered as a constraint to improve the generalization. Extensive experiments on two cases of heterogeneous face recognition (visible light vs. near infrared, and photo vs. sketch) validate the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, novel H∞ controllers are proposed for networked bilateral teleoperation system with time-varying delays and random packet losses. The manipulators are considered as parametric non-identical manipulators. The characteristic of network, such as random time-varying delays and packet losses are thoroughly incorporated in the design. For such systems, the mismatched-model terms are treated as disturbance, then, the model of closed-loop error dynamics are derived. By constructing novel time delay and packet loss dependent Lyapunov functionals, a sufficient condition is derived to ensure the exponentially mean square stability with a given disturbance attenuation level γ. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method and control scheme. Copyright © 2013 IFAC.

A vast amount of complex spatio-temporal brain data, such as EEG-, have been accumulated. Technological advances in many disciplines rely on the proper analysis, understanding and utilisation of these data. In order to address this great challenge, the paper utilizes the recently introduced by one of the authors 3D spiking neural network environment called NeuCube for spatio-temporal EEG data classification. A methodology is proposed and illustrated on two small-scale examples: classifying EEG data for music- versus noise perception, and person identification based on music perception. Future development and usage of the NeuCube environment can be expected to significantly further the creation of novel brain-computer interfaces, cognitive robotics and medical engineering devices. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

One of the most important issues among active rehabilitation technique is how to extract the voluntary intention of patient through bio-signals, especially EEG signal. This pilot study investigates the feasibility of utilizing a 3D spiking neural networks-based architecture named NeuCube for EEG data classification in the rehabilitation practice. In this paper, the architecture of the NeuCube is designed and a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) rehabilitation scenario is introduced which requires accurate classification of EEG signal to achieve active FES control. Three classes of EEG signals corresponding to three imaginary wrist motions are collected and classified. The NeuCube architecture provides promising classification results, which demonstrates our proposed method is capable of extracting the voluntary intention in the rehabilitation practice. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

In Escherichia coil four gene products（selA, selB, selC and selD） and a selenocysteine（Sec） insertion sequence（SECIS） are required for the correct translation of UGA codons encoding Sec. Previous studies have shown that the stoichiometry of selenoproteine mRNA and elongation factor SelB affect the efficiency of Sec incorporation. Herein lies a detailed analysis of the effects of co-expressing selA, selB and selC genes under inducible promoters on the incorporation efficiency of Sec. Over-expression of either selA or selB reduced the efficiency of Sec incorporation by 61.1% or 11.6%, respectively, compared to the over-expression of the reporter vector alone did. Concomitant over-expression ofselC with selA or selB completely reversed the reduce of the efficiency of Sec but still reduced the efficiency of the incorporation relative to that observed for expression of selC alone. Over-expression of selC gene alone under L-arabinose induction reduced the efficiency of the incorporation relative to that observed for co-expressing selC with selA and selB under the control of its endogenous promoter in the absence of L-arabinose. Co-expression of selA, selB and selC with selA or selB under the control of inducible promoters increased the effi- ciency of Sec incorporation by 69.7%. Moreover, inducing selenoprotein-related gene expression during the late exponential phase increased the efficiency of Sec incorporation by a factor of 5.4 relative to that observed for the reporter vector alone. These results suggest that the co-expression of selA, selB and selC in Escherichia coli under the control of inducible promoters is a viable and promising strategy for increasing the yields of selenoproteins.

Human Flesh Search is an explosive Web phenomenon these years in China, especially when new media, such as Weibo, appeared. In this research, we present the empirical studies about growing patterns of participated Human Flesh Search user, and unveiled one unique growing property. Based on the empirical findings, we compare it with two others results, one is the common Weibo's growth pattern, and the other is the popularity growth pattern of photo in Flickr. Some differences are proposed and analyzed briefly. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Serum was obtained from 25 male renal cell carcinoma(RCC) patients and 21 healthy males.O-glycans were released by a-elimination reaction and purified by graphitized carbon cartridge solid phase extraction,then profiled by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation-time of flight mass *** noise removal and peak alignment,1372 peaks were extracted from 200000 data *** peaks were analyzed by calculation of differential sensitivity and *** combination of two feature peaks was chosen as a biomarker and could clearly differentiate RCC and normal samples in our study group.
