In this work, we discuss the leakage detection problem arising in offshore pipeline transport which is much more challenging than that in ground fluid transport systems due to the lack of measurements along the pipelines. We consider the linear dynamics using the transmission line model, then we compare the frequency responses of the transfer functions obtained via both finite difference method and PDE Laplace transform. The simulation result shows the effectiveness of the finite dimensional models which can approximate the original linearized model accurately in low frequencies. Due to the scarcity of sensors in the SCADA (the Supervisory control And Data Acquisition) systems of offshore pipelines, we propose a novel integrated drifting sensor solution for this type of detection problem and make a brief introduction of the data assimilation framework. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Micro-simulation becomes more and more important in the Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research, because it can provide detailed descriptions of the system. For a multi-agent systems (MAS) modeling of an ITS, the computation burden is large, as it involves the computation of the state changing of all the agents. And, there are many multi-objective optimization problems in the ITS research. In this paper, we solve the traffic light signaling optimization problem and we take the average delay time and the average stop times as two objectives. We use a famous method of Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II). As NSGA-II can be viewed as an intelligent way of running a number of micro-simulations, usually the computation burden is huge. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been a popular tool for parallel computing. The real transportation system runs in parallel and we think that a parallel tool is more suitable for the simulation and optimization of the system. We test GPU based NSGA-II method on a 4 intersection lattice road network, and on the 18 intersection road network of the Zhongguancun area of Beijing. Compared with the CPU version, the GPU version implementation achieves a speedup factor of 21.46 and 27.64 respectively.

This paper is concerned with stabilization analysis of wireless networked control system (WNCS) subject to packet dropout and network induced delay under multiple-packet transmission policy. A novel stochastic system is established to describe the wireless networked control system, and the network induced delay can be less or longer than one sampling period. Then, a sufficient condition for the exponentially mean square stability of the closed-loop WNCS is given and corresponding feedback controller is designed. Finally, a numerical example about inverted pendulum under ZigBee network is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Predictor that is built from the plant model, plays an important role in model predictive control system. The predictor should be updated timely to maintain certain calculation accuracy and performance optimality. In order to avoid unnecessary interruptions to production, however, updating should only be done when serious mismatch between the process and model appears. A novel method based on subspace approach is proposed to detect the mismatches using closed-loop operation data. The channels with mismatches in multi input multi output system are isolated. And some combinations of the mismatched parameters that have physical significance can be detected. These results provide useful information for the maintenance of model predictive control system. Simulations on a distillation process demonstrate the efficacy of the methodology. © 2012 IFAC.

The core function of any profitable firm is capturing a share of the value that customer perceives in the firm's offering. Value capture is traditionally considered to relate to a competitive advantage at the firm level, but not the firm network level. However, the ever increasing role of information and knowledge in today's economy is profoundly changing how firms can create competitive advantages. Among these changes, we highlight reducing transaction costs in various areas of the economy, which drives the economy to organize more toward rapidly evolving networks or smaller firms. There is also an opposite trend for some internet firms to become larger due to economies of scale and due to network externalities. In this position paper, we examine the issue of value capture by firms that are increasingly small and operate in rapidly changing and evolving networks. We conclude by outlining future research on firm-level capabilities that are required to enable value capture in new forms of dynamic networks.

The original Extremal Optimization (EO) algorithm and its modified versions have been successfully applied to a variety of NP-hard optimization problems. However, almost all existing EO-based algorithms have overlooked the inherent structural properties behind the optimization problems, e.g., the backbone information. This paper presents a novel stochastic local search method called Backbone Guided Extremal Optimization (BGEO) to solve the hard maximum satisfiability (MAX-SAT) problem, one of typical NP-hard problems. The key idea behind the proposed method is to incorporate the backbone information into a recent developed optimization algorithm termed extremal optimization (EO) to guide the entire search process approach the optimal solutions. The superiority of BGEO to the reported BE-EEO algorithm without backbone information is demonstrated by the experimental results on the hard Max-SAT instances. © The Authors.

In this paper, we analytically investigate the achievable rate of multiple-input single-output (MISO) channels in the presence of delay constraints. In particular, we focus on the socalled effective rate which was recently established as a suitable metric for assessing the impact of delay constraints on the overall performance of communication systems. Yet, most prior relevant works have considered only the typical cases of Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami-m fading which allow for tractable manipulations. In this paper, we relax this assumption by considering MISO systems over η-μ fading channels. The η-μ distribution has been shown to provide very good fit to experimental data in various propagation environments. New, analytical expressions for the exact effective rate are derived. Moreover, we consider the asymptotically high and low signal-to-noise (SNR) regimes, for which tractable, closed-form effective rate expressions are presented. These results enable us to explicitly investigate the impact of system parameters on the effective rate of MISO η-μ fading channels.

This paper is concerned with the problem of designing a time-delay output feedback controller for the master-slave synchronization of singular Lur'e systems. Based on the generalized Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory, a new delay-dependent synchronization criterion is derived by dividing the time delay into two intervals and designing different energy functions in each interval. The controller design algorithm is also given in terms of strict linear matrix inequality. A numerical example is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the design method. © 2012 Huazhong Univ of Sci & Tec.

control performance assessment for MPC systems has attracted a lot of interest in recent years. Compared with the typical MVC benchmark, the LQG benchmark gives a pragmatic assessment result. Based on the traditional LQG benchmark, the equigrid approach can improve the regression performance. In addition to the numerical algorithm, the recursive algorithm and the analytical algorithm were introduced to analyze the essential relationship in the LQG benchmark, which can save the computing cost and improve the regression effect. Based on the ARMAX model, the detailed procedures for these algorithms were discussed. In the simulation to a SISO process and a MIMO process, the different types of LQG benchmarks were calculated.
