This study systematically investigated the effects of TiO 2 on the crystallization, sintering characteristics, phase compositions, microstructure and functional properties of Gd 2 O 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 (GAS) glass ceramics (GCs). The results revealed that TiO 2 , acting as a heterogeneous nucleating agent, significantly reduces the crystallization activation energy, thereby promoting nucleation and phase separation within the glass matrix. Furthermore, the partial substitution of Si 4+ with Ti 4+ in the glass network enhances its stability and densification. An optimal amount of TiO 2 improves the mechanical properties, reduces the thermal expansion coefficient, and minimizes signal delay and energy dissipation. Under sintering conditions of 1050°C, the GT3 GCs with 6 wt% TiO 2 exhibits exceptional comprehensive performance: σ 3p =321.8 MPa, H v = 8.96 GPa, E = 142.9 GPa, K IC = 2.46 MPa·m 1 / 2 , CTE = 6.40 ppm/◦C, ε r = 9.18 and tanδ = 3.5 × 10 -3 . These findings provide valuable insights into the doping modification of GAS glass ceramics and their potential for high-performance substrate applications.
