Background modeling is a fundamental yet challenging issue in video surveillance. Traditional methods usually adopt single feature type to solve the problem, while the performance is usually unsatisfactory when handling complex scenes. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale framework, which combines both texture and intensity feature, to achieve a robust and accurate solution. Our contributions are three folds: first, we provide a multi-scale analysis for the issue;second, for texture feature we propose a novel texture operator named Scale-invariant Centersymmetric Local Ternary Pattern, and a corresponding Pattern Adaptive Kernel Density Estimation technique for its probability estimation;third, we design a Simplified Gaussian Mixture Models for intensity feature. Our method is tested on several complex real world videos with illumination variation, soft shadows and dynamic backgrounds. The experimental results clearly demonstrate that our method is superior to the previous methods.

Improving Auction Mechanisms for Online Real-Time Bidding Advertising with a Two-stage Resale Model

Real Time Bidding (RTB), widely publicized as one of the most promising big-data-driven business models for online computational advertising, has the potential of effectively monetizing user clicks and impressions via two-stage auctions with resale. Demand side platforms (DSPs) play a key role as intermediators in this auction process. Typically, the first-stage auctions will be conducted separately in each DSP to determine one winning advertiser registered on it, and in the second-stage auction, each DSP submits a bid based on its winning advertiser's bid to the ad exchange platform (AdX). The highest-bid DSP wins the ad impression from AdX and resells it to its winning advertiser in pursuit of the intermediate fee. This two-stage resale auction is a critical component in maintaining the effectiveness and efficiency of RTB ecosystems. In this paper, we strive to identify and design potential improvements for this auction mechanism with the aim of enhancing the total revenue of both advertisers and DSPs. We also validated our proposed auction mechanisms using the computational experiment approach. The experimental results indicate that our proposed mechanisms can make both advertisers and DSPs better off. Our work represents the first step towards a new research area of optimal mechanism design for RTB auctions, and is expected to provide useful managerial insights in RTB market practice. © 2017

This paper focuses on macro prediction of corporate equipment maintenance expenditure, adopts ARMA to establish the model for historical data of corporate equipment maintenance expenditure and makes demand analysis and prediction so as to provide a scientific basis for decision makers in equipment maintenance expenditure prediction, and they can control the overall budget for equipment maintenance. Based on analysis and compassion of actual model calculation results, the paper reaches the conclusion that ARMA model enjoys an advantage over traditional predicting models in corporate equipment maintenance prediction. © 2012 IEEE.

As the complex anatomical structure of the maxillofacial region, the surgery in this area is high risk and difficult to implement. Then, a multi-arm medical robot assisted maxillofacial surgery using optical navigation was proposed in this paper, which can improve surgical precision and make the doctors away from the heavy manual work. In this paper, the medical robot system and mechanical structure of the robot were introduced. Forward kinematics and inverse kinematics were analysed. Then trajectory planning using quintic polynomial interpolation for smoothly motion was adopted, and rectilinear motion in Cartesian space was adopted. The kinematics was validated and the workspace of the robot was calculated by simulations. Finally, the robot model was established and an experiment was carried out which proved the robot run smoothly and positioned accurately. © 2012 IEEE.

Person following is a crucial capability for mobile robots in tasks of human assistance and cooperation. In this paper, a person-following approach based on path planning is proposed for mobile robots, which takes person following and obstacle avoidance into account in a unified framework. The proposed approach is comprised of a sensing module and a planning module. The sensing module with a camera and a 3D LiDAR is employed to locate the target person and perceive obstacles. For the planning module, the combination of global planner and local planner effectively outputs collision-free paths and control commands for a mobile robot to keep following the target person. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel closed-loop method for a multilink robotic fish to mimic the C-start maneuver, in which the turning speed and precision are emphasized. The turning speed is maximized by carefully designed preparatory stage, and the turning precision is achieved by the feedback of the turning angle from a gyroscope and a new design of the propulsive stage. Different types of C-starts are studied, due to the different sizes of caudal fins, in order to achieve the highest turning angular velocity. All the proposed types of C-starts are experimented and compared using a four-joint robotic fish. The experimental results show a fastest angular velocity up to 200°/s and the distinctions between all these different types. © 2011 IEEE.

Underwater vehicle manipulator systems (UVMSs) is becoming a research hotspot in the field of marine intelligent equipment. Introducing visual feedback equipped with cameras in the loop to guide UVMS to complete the grasping has comprehensive advantages of response speed, work efficiency and intelligence. In this paper, mapping between the feature error and the motion of the UVMS generalized degrees of freedom is established to realize the suspended grasping under the coordinated motion of the vehicle body and the manipulator. Then, a UVMS motion control algorithm based on time delay estimation (TDE) is constructed for visual servo autonomous grasping process, the TDE of which is used to estimate and compensate the lumped interference in real time. The Lyapunov theory is applied to analyze its stability and its control performance is verified through simulation experiments. The simulation results shew the effectiveness of the proposed visual servo control with TED method based on line features. © 2024 IEEE.

With the increasing number of satellites being launched in China,the demand for Telemetry,Tracking,and Command(TT&C)resources is also *** of the global coverage and resource requirements of TT&C management,this paper proposes a TT&C scheme based on the Global Short-Message Communication system(GSMCS)of the BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite system(BDS-3).The system composition,workflow,and functions of satellite TT&C are analyzed using the GSMCS of *** the coverage analysis of the Medium Earth Orbit(MEO)constellation of BDS-3,scheme’s applicability is pointed out,and the correctness of the analysis results is verified via *** value range of the link distance is derived by calculating the range of the distance variation between any 2 satellites in the BDS-3 MEO constellation and combining the intersatellite routing *** calculation results show that the response time range of the autonomous request management application of in-orbit satellites based on the GSMCS of BDS-3 is 1.407 to 2.448 *** can meet the requirements of TT&C service.
