The X-Y precision planar motion stage is a highly advanced motion control device that has been widely utilized in various precision motion control fields. This platform achieves precise positioning and control of objects through precise motion along the X and Y axes, providing an outstanding solution for scientific research, industrial production, and other applications. The X-Y platform consists of two permanent magnet synchronous linear motors. In the three-loop control of the motor, when the current loop uses a PID controller, there is a problem in tuning the parameters. This paper replaces the original PID controller in the current loop with a model predictive controller. Simultaneously, addressing the issue of improving the tracking accuracy of the X-Y precision planar motion stage, a forgetting high-order variable gain PD-type iterative learning control is proposed. Subsequently, both of these control methods are applied to the Simulink model of the X-Y precision motion stage motor. This not only solves the complex problem of tuning the motor current loop parameters but also improves the tracking accuracy of the X-Y precision motion stage. The results indicate that when using both model predictive controllers and forgetting high-order variable gain PD-type iterative learning controllers for motor control, not only can the tuning of current loop parameters be omitted, but also tracking errors can be effectively reduced, and the system convergence speed can be accelerated.

Distributed derivative-free learning method for stochastic optimization over a network with sparse activity

This paper addresses a distributed optimization problem in a communication network where nodes are active sporadically. Each active node applies some learning method to control its action to maximize the global utility function, which is defined as the sum of the local utility functions of active nodes. We deal with stochastic optimization problem with the setting that utility functions are disturbed by some non-additive stochastic process. We consider a more challenging situation where the learning method has to be performed only based on a scalar approximation of the utility function, rather than its closed-form expression, so that the typical gradient descent method cannot be applied. This setting is quite realistic when the network is affected by some stochastic and time-varying process, and that each node cannot have the full knowledge of the network states. We propose a distributed optimization algorithm and prove its almost surely convergence to the optimum. Convergence rate is also derived with an additional assumption that the objective function is strongly concave. Numerical results are also presented to justify our claim. A comprehensive survey on STP approach to finite games

Nowadays the semi-tensor product (STP) approach to finite games has become a promising new direction. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on this prosperous field. After a brief introduction for STP and finite (networked) games, a description for the principle and fundamental technique of STP approach to finite games is presented. Then several problems and recent results about theory and applications of finite games via STP are presented. Greenhouse environment control is challenging since it is a partially open system being complex, nonlinear and highly uncertain. For such a complex system, empirical knowledge is often not sufficient to control the environment well. This paper proposes an approach for environment control based on computational experiments. The data source is from the second Autonomous Greenhouses International Challenge. Descriptive model is built with lightGBM algorithm for air temperature and CO2 concentration inside greenhouse. Computational experiments were carried out to optimize the ventilation opening, which has double effect of cooling and CO2 concentration decreasing. The aim of optimization is to keep the temperature as close as possible to the set line, while keeping a necessary level of CO2 concentration. The results indicate that the temperature can be better controlled than the original empirical methods for different conditions, while the CO2 concentration is maintained. The proposed approach overcomes the shortage of controlling ventilation with static knowledge, and can be applied to the real greenhouse. © 2020 ACM.

Model management is a critical component in data-driven surrogate-assisted evolutionary optimization. It is mainly used for selecting candidate samples to be evaluated using exact functions to balance the exploration and exploitation of algorithms. However, there are some potential limitations for typical infill sampling criteria. An adaptive model management strategy is proposed to overcome the limitations. It adaptively adjusts the selection probability of candidate samples, and avoids potentially unreliability and the burden of selecting parameters of typical infill sampling criteria. The comparison results on benchmark problems demonstrate the competitiveness of the strategy in solving data-driven optimization problems.

Armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNRs) with sub-nanometer width are potential materials for fabrication of novel nanodevices thanks to their moderate direct band gaps. AGNRs are usually synthesized by polymerizing precursor molecules on substrate surface. However, it is time-consuming and not suitable for large-scale production. AGNRs can also be grown by transforming precursor molecules inside single-walled carbon nanotubes via furnace annealing, but the obtained AGNRs are normally twisted. In this work, microwave heating is applied for transforming precursor molecules into AGNRs. The fast heating process allows synthesizing the AGNRs in seconds. Several different molecules were successfully transformed into AGNRs, suggesting that it is a universal method. More importantly, as demonstrated by Raman spectroscopy, aberration-corrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and theoretical calculations, less twisted AGNRs are synthesized by the microwave heating than the furnace annealing. Our results reveal a route for rapid production of AGNRs in large scale, which would benefit future applications in novel AGNRs-based semiconductor devices. © 2023, CC BY.

A density functional theory based semiempirical van der Waals (vdW) method with dielectric functions being incorporated is developed for two-dimensional materials. The coefficients of interatomic pairwise potentials are derived from atomic polarizabilities obtained via a Clausius-Mossotti relation dedicated for layered crystals. The method not only can efficiently describe the dispersion energy for a range of planar graphene-like materials at nearly the same accuracy as the adiabatic connection fluctuation-dissipation theorem, but also rationalizes experimentally measured relative interfacial strengths of heterostructures and interlayer registry of hexagonal boron nitride that have plagued other vdW methods.

In traditional impedance control model,the contact force can be reduced ***,there exists a tracking error at the stable state due to the existence of stiffness,which is not conducive to tackle tasks based on high performance position control for ***,this paper proposes a novel dynamic interaction model:fractional order impedance control,to address this ***,an integral item is added into the traditional impedance model to eliminate the tracking ***,the idea of fractional order is introduced to make the orders of inertia,damping,and stiffness change from integers to fractions to achieve more significant compliant ***,simulation results validate the advantages of proposed fractional order impedance control and it can be also employed to absorb/increase,hold/keep,and dissipate/decrease system energy to achieve jumping,bouncing and friendly contact,***,stability analysis and three criterions of choosing and tuning 6 classic parameters in the proposed fractional order impedance control are both given out.

$H_{\infty }$ PID control for Discrete-Time Fuzzy systems With Infinite-Distributed Delays Under Round-Robin Communication Protocol

This article is concerned with the $H_{\infty }$ proportional–integral–derivative (PID) control problem for class of discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy systems subject to infinite-distributed time delays and round-robin (RR) protocol scheduling effects. The information exchange between the sensors and the controller is conducted through a shared communication network. For the purpose of alleviating possible data collision, the well-known RR communication protocol is deployed to schedule the data transmissions. To stabilize the target system with guaranteed $H_{\infty }$ performance index, a novel yet easy-to-implement fuzzy PID controller is developed whose integral term is calculated based on the past measurements defined in a limited time window with hope to improve computational efficiency and reduce accumulation error. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory and the convex optimization technique, sufficient conditions are derived to ensure the exponential stability as well as the $H_{\infty }$ disturbance attenuation/rejection capacity of the underlying system. Furthermore, by utilizing the cone complementarity linearization algorithm, the nonconvex controller design problem is transformed into an iterative optimization one that facilitates the controller implementation. Finally, simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness and correctness of the developed control method.

Underwater image enhancement via histogram similarity-oriented color compensation complemented by multiple attribute adjustment

Underwater images are often influenced by color casts, low contrast, and blurred details. We observe that images taken in natural settings typically have similar histograms across color channels, while underwater images do not. To improve the natural appearance of an underwater image, it is critical to improve the histogram similarity across its color channels. To address this problem, we develop a histogram similarity-oriented color compensation method that corrects color casts by improving the histogram similarity across color channels in the underwater image. In addition, we apply the multiple attribute adjustment method, including max-min intensity stretching, luminance map-guided weighting, and high-frequency edge mask fusion, to enhance contrast, saturation, and sharpness, effectively addressing problems of low contrast and blurred details and eventually enhancing the overall appearance of underwater images. Particularly, the method proposed in this work is not based on deep learning, but it effectively enhances a single underwater image. Comprehensive empirical assessments demonstrated that this method exceeds state-of-the-art underwater image enhancement techniques.
