Effects of Corona Discharge from the Grounding Tip on Charge Evolution of Wall Bushing

Manufacturers consider that the grounding tip near the wall bushing flange is a potentially important factor in several sheath perforation accidents. Taking a ±100 kV true type SF6 gas-insulated bushing as a typical wall bushing, this paper tests the impact of the nearby grounding tip on the charge accumulation. Based on the experiment results, we propose the three-dimensional nonlinear conduction model to unravel the charge accumulation process and the three-dimensional corona ion migration model to clarify the corona process. It is concluded that the consumption of gas ions leads to the nonlinear charge relaxation process. When the corona of grounding tip incepts, numerous ions are generated, forming an "overcharge" phenomenon. The electric field at the insulator-sheds interface and the SF6-insulator interface increases compared to the normal condition, with non-uniform distribution along the circumferential direction. Material inhomogeneity amplifies electric field distortion and creates insulation weaknesses, making insulation aging more likely and potentially leading to a slowly developing electrical tree breakdown process. The length of the needle tip affects the duration of the corona effect;an excessively long needle tip can cause a sustained corona discharge. This research provides a foundation for bushing accidents analysis and operation reliability improvement. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

An equivalent modeling method for integrated water-wind-solar systems based on sparrow search algorithm

In the context of extensive integration of renewable energy sources into the electrical grid, the grid's fault transient behaviors have undergone significant changes. However, conventional single-unit equivalent models fail to accurately capture the fault transient responses of combined wind-solar-hydro power stations and often require substantial computational resources, leading to reduced simulation efficiency. This study proposes a cluster-based equivalent modeling approach for hybrid wind-solar-hydro power plants using the Sparrow Search Algorithm. key factors influencing fault characteristics, including the distance to the Point of Common Coupling, DC-side current-limiting measures, irradiance levels, water flow rates, wind speeds, and reactive power at the outlet, are identified and used to construct a transient model. Euclidean distances are computed for these factors, and initial clustering centers for wind turbines are determined using an improved max–min distance technique. These factors and clustering centers serve as the training dataset to establish the clustering equivalent model. Simulation results, conducted on the MATLAB2022 platform, demonstrate that the SSA-based model outperforms the single-unit equivalent model by over 150 times in terms of accuracy. Additionally, the SSA-based model achieves a delay time, defined as the time required to compute the system's transient response after a fault, of less than 5 ms, which is less than one-twentieth of the delay time of the single-unit equivalent model. These improvements highlight the model's ability to accurately capture dynamic power responses under various disturbances, making it highly suitable for real-time applications in hybrid renewable energy systems. © The Author(s) 2025.

The task scheduling problem based on directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) has been proven to be NP-complete in general cases or under certain restrictions. In this paper, building upon existing scheduling algorithms, we introduce a static task scheduling algorithm based on directed acyclic graphs. By incorporating the proportion of task transmission delay as a guiding metric in the optimization process, processors can be prioritized for tasks with high latency, thereby improving computational efficiency. We first validate the theoretical feasibility of the algorithm using a theoretical case study and illustrate the algorithmic effectiveness using two real case studies, direct current (DC) model and alternating current (AC) model respectively. The research indicates that the scheduling algorithm proposed in this paper achieves an average scheduling length improvement of over 1.2% compared to the Heterogeneous Earliest-Finish-Time algorithm (HEFT) in topologies with high latency tasks. Additionally, the experiments show that the HEFT algorithm consumes 39.85us and the EMT-DM algorithm consumes 38.29us during simulation using DC, and the HEFT algorithm consumes 31.23us and the EMT-DM algorithm consumes 26.51us during simulation using AC, both of which are improved compared to the HEFT algorithm. © The Author(s) 2025.

Moving target defense (MTD) is a promising approach to defend against load redistribution attacks on the internet-of-things (IoT)-based smart grid networks by probing the distorted state estimates with the distributed flexible AC transmission system. However, existing studies mainly focus on optimizing the performance of MTD and ignore the safety effect of it on the system’s operation. In this paper, we fill this gap by deeply analyzing the effect of MTD on the small signal stability and aim to alleviate the negative impact and guarantee its defending performance simultaneously. Firstly, the stability is formally described using the eigenvalue sensitivity. The relationship between the MTD-induced perturbation (MTDper) and the stability criteria is derived. Secondly, a new indicator is proposed to measure the effectiveness of MTDper. Thirdly, a constrained optimization problem is formulated to compute the bound of MTDper for guaranteeing the small signal stability. In addition, a surprising finding is that the stability margin can be improved and enhanced by optimizing the value of MTDper without losing the MTD’s effectiveness. Finally, we evaluate the performance of MTDper and its impact on the small signal stability with extensive simulations on the IEEE 30-bus, 39-bus, and 68-bus test power systems. © 2014 IEEE.

The filling, review, execution and archiving management of two orders (operation order and work order) is one of the core businesses of on-site operation management of electric power enterprises. At present, the power grid management platform has developed the process and functions of two-order management and put them into application. However, from the perspective of the application status and analysis, there are still some problems that need to be solved urgently, such as lack of some core operation scenarios and incomplete two-order application functions. The intelligent two-order system effectively solves the current management situation of many non-standard and unqualified two orders, for instance, low efficiency of manual filling out operation orders and manual review by substation duty personnel, formalistic on-site safety investigation and safety technical disclosure of work orders for substations, and inconsistent writing requirements, thereby achieving the goal of effectively controlling the entire process risk of substation two-order management business from a three-dimensional, source-oriented, and transparent perspective. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The attack of false data injection can contaminate the measurements acquired from the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, which can seriously endanger the safety and stability of power system operations. The conventional machine learning attack detection methods use a single strong classifier and are difficult to solve the problem of overfitting, making them lack of generalization ability. On the other hand, most existing dimension reduction approaches based on feature extraction can change the original physical meanings of measurements. Here, a novel method is proposed based on feature selection and ensemble learning to solve the above problems. Squirrel search algorithm combines Latin hypercube sampling and opposition-based learning to form an improved algorithm with strong global search ability for feature selection. This avoids the problem of feature extraction changing the original physical meanings of measurements. Besides, the classifier based on adaptive boosting decision tree ensemble learning algorithm with stronger generalization ability is used to distinguish the false data injection. Simulation results using the IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 57-bus test systems verify the proposed method with higher performance of detection compared with other widely adopted methods. © 2019 power System protection and control Press.

With the further development of "double high" characteristics of power system, the traditional stability problem dominated by synchronous generator has gradually evolved into a new stability problem dominated by power electronic equipment control. In addition, different types of failure problems can occur in wind power systems. In order to achieve multi-objective coordinated and stable operation of high proportion wind power system, a damping control method with parameters tuning is proposed, which includes the design of filtering link and proportional amplification link. Among them, the key parameters of the proportional link are adjusted. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed control method is verified by simulation tests. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. With the development of the power system, the number of substation equipment continues to increase, and the use of intelligent mobile robots to replace traditional manual inspection methods is a trend, which can improve inspection efficiency and stability, and reduce the operation and maintenance costs of substations. However, in the current mobile robot inspection process, to ensure that meter readings are not affected by factors such as lighting and the observation angle of the gimbal, operators need to pre-adjust the corresponding observation points for each device to be observed, resulting in a significant workload for debugging. To reduce the extensive debugging time invested by staff in the early stages, this paper proposes a method for robot meter reading without preset positions based on a digital twin model of the substation. The positions of equipment are marked in the digital twin model and sent to the mobile robot, which then calculates the optimal observation route autonomously. An RGBD camera is used to obtain the point cloud of the meter, and the normal vectors of the point cloud are extracted to calculate the corresponding optimal observation position and gimbal angle. Subsequently, image processing methods are employed to obtain the meter reading. Finally, the experiment results show that the proposed method can reduce the workload of manual debugging in substation inspection and improve the stability and accuracy of meter readings. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

This paper focuses on the operation improvement of garbage power plants, which are a key disposal technology for household waste, construction waste, etc. However, the low of the furnace temperature can cause a sharp increase in dioxins and result in consequences of severe environmental pollution. To enhance the control performance of the combustion system for garbage power plants, proportional-integral-derivative based on predictive (PID-predictive) and proportional-integral based on predictive (PI-predictive) controllers are designed for the combustion system, which is dominated by time delay. By equaling the desired dynamic characteristics and the closed-loop system combined with the combustion system and controller, the PID-predictive and PI-predictive can be designed. The comprehensive comparison of the tracking performance, disturbance rejection ability, measurement noise rejection performance and ability to handle system uncertainties is carried out with PI, active disturbance rejection control, delay active disturbance rejection control and Smith predictor active disturbance rejection control. Simulation results show that PID-predictive and PI-predictive obtain similar control performance, and have a faster tracking speed than other comparative controllers. The disturbance rejection ability of PID-predictive and PI-predictive is weaker than delay active disturbance rejection control and Smith predictor active disturbance rejection control, and is stronger than PI and active disturbance rejection control. When the controlled process has system uncertainties, PID-predictive and PI-predictive still obtain satisfactory control performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
