Chaotic synchronization criteria for a class of dynamical networks with each node being RCL-shunted Josephson junction is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithms, which are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), guarantee the synchronized states to be global asymptotically stable. In this paper, a novel approach for person-independent head pose estimation in gray-level images is presented. There are two steps of the proposed method. In order to preserve similar patterns of faces under various poses, a novel multi-view face detector using tree-structured cascaded-Adaboost classifiers is applied. Furthermore, based on the cropped face images, randomized regression trees are learned and applied to estimate head pose precisely. Experiments show that our method achieves better pose estimation results in both horizontal and vertical orientations in comparison with the reported result with skin color information.

In this paper, the optimal analog network coding strategy (or relay beamforming) in MIMO two-way relay channels is studied. The weighted sum rate is used as the optimization criterion. Motivated by the classic Arimoto-Blahut algorithm, an iterative algorithm, which monotonically improves the cost function, is designed to update the relay beamformer. This relay beamforming algorithm is further extended to the case of joint source and relay beamforming. We show that in the iteration of the algorithms, the updates of the relay beamforming matrix and the source beamforming matrices are accomplished by solving a series of quadratic programs and quadratically constrained quadratic programs, which are of low complexity. Simulations are presented to compare the proposed algorithms with the performance upper bounds and the existing algorithms.

In this paper, we consider a cognitive radio (CR) system in non-ideal fading wireless channels and propose a cooperative spectrum sensing scheme based on linear parallel access channel (PAC),serving as an alternative way to improve the cooperative spectrum sensing performance. We assume that the gains of the observation and transmission channels are all known which is available since we use standard preamble-aided channel estimation techniques to require channel state information. The key feature of the proposed scheme is that the observations are transmitted by amplify and forward transmissions from part of cognitive users (CUs) to a fusion center (FC) while the other CUs keep silent. The optimal weighting coefficients are obtained by maximizing the deflection coefficient under transmit power constraint and the optimal number and set of CUs in cooperation is searched by a sequential forward selection algorithm. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed optimal cooperative spectrum sensing scheme can significantly improve the spectrum sensing performance.

Recent years, image-based crack detection has attracted more and more attentions for its potential applications on the inspection, diagnosis, and maintenance of various products, e.g. metal workpiece, concrete structure, asphalt road and etc. Generally, the applications are inevitably confronted with noises such as non-uniform illuminated conditions, shadings, stains and nature textures. To ease the problem, traditional methods usually focused on a special application and are carried out with strictly controlled image acquisition environments or an adhoc preprocessing procedure. In this paper, we propose a general crack detection method which can deal with various products as well as the noises in a unified fashion, and even with the same parameters. The method partitions an image into overlapped small grid cells and determines whether the cells contain cracks using a well designed feature descriptor. Experiments using real images of various products show the effectiveness of the proposed feature as well as the method.

A number of different features, besides minutiae, have been used for fingerprint matching. There include orientation-based minutia descriptor, FingerCode, ridge feature map, orientation map, and density map. Previous studies have shown that the performance of a fingerprint recognition system can be improved by combining these features with minutiae through a fusion strategy. In this paper, a comparative study of combining multiple features is carried out on a large database. Based on the experimental results, some useful conclusions can be drawn: (1) A larger improvement can usually be obtained as we combine more features; (2) However, beyond 4 features, the performance improvement is very small. (3) MD (minutiae and orientation-based minutia descriptor) are the best of two-feature combinations. It is interesting that the single feature D (minutia descriptor) does not perform the best, but the combination of MD (minutiae and minutia descriptor) performs very well. (4) Although the combinations of MO and MD performs the best among the two-feature combinations, MDO performs not so good as MDR (minutiae, minutia descriptor, and ridge density map) due to the correlativeness between D and O. These observations are helpful for designing practical fingerprint matching systems.
