Cell culture in vitro is essential for drug screening, disease modeling, and stem cell-related research. Previous studies have indicated that two-dimensional (2D) cellular environments can significantly differ from physiological cells in vivo, leading to a high failure rate when translating therapeutics developed in 2D cell models to clinical applications. Therefore, there is a strong focus on developing three-dimensional (3D) cell culture techniques that more closely mimic in vivo cell microenvironments. These techniques hold great promise for enhancing precision in drug discovery and tissue regeneration. In this study, we introduce a novel microfluidic technique that utilizes droplets to fabricate hydrogel microspheres, each exhibiting a unique internal morphology suitable for 3D cell culture applications. Specifically, we employed this method to cultivate human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) within the interior canals of the hydrogel microspheres, forming monolayers on the surfaces of the spiral canals. This setup effectively mimicked the configurations of native blood vessels. Furthermore, we successfully demonstrated the fabrication of heterogeneous spheroids with spiral blood vessel lumens, which can be utilized to construct spiral vascularized bone tissue. © 2023 IEEE.

Interaction model estimation-based robotic force-position coordinated optimization for rigid-soft heterogeneous contact tasks

Inspired by Model Predictive Interaction Control(MPIC),this paper proposes differential models for estimating contact geometric parameters and normal-friction forces and formulates an optimal control problem with multiple constraints to allow robots to perform rigid-soft heterogeneous contact *** the MPIC,robot dynamics are linearized,and Extended Kalman Filters are used for the online estimation of geometry-aware ***,a geometry-aware Hertz contact model is introduced for the online estimation of contact *** then implement the force-position coordinate optimization by incorporating the contact parameters and interaction force constraints into a gradient-based optimization *** validations were designed for two contact modes:“single-point contact”and“continuous contact”,involving materials with four different Young’s moduli and tested in human arm“relaxation-contraction”*** indicate that our framework ensures consistent geometry-aware parameter estimation and maintains reliable force interaction to guarantee *** method reduces the maximum impact force by 50%and decreases the average force error by 42%.The proposed framework has potential applications in medical and industrial tasks involving the manipulation of rigid,soft,and deformable objects.

Sharpness-aware minimization (SAM), which searches for flat minima by min-max optimization, has been shown to be useful in improving model generalization. However, since each SAM update requires computing two gradients, its computational cost and training time are both doubled compared to standard empirical risk minimization (ERM). Recent state-of-the-arts reduce the fraction of SAM updates and thus accelerate SAM by switching between SAM and ERM updates randomly or periodically. In this paper, we design an adaptive policy to employ SAM based on the loss landscape geometry. Two efficient algorithms, AE-SAM and AE-LookSAM, are proposed. We theoretically show that AE-SAM has the same convergence rate as SAM. Experimental results on various datasets and architectures demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the adaptive policy. © 2023 11th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2023. Continual Machine Reading Comprehension aims to incrementally learn from a continuous data stream across time without access the previous seen data, which is crucial for the development of real-world MRC systems. However, it is a great challenge to learn a new domain incrementally without catastrophically forgetting previous knowledge. In this paper, MA-MRC, a continual MRC model with uncertainty-aware fixed Memory and Adversarial domain adaptation, is proposed. In MA-MRC, a fixed size memory stores a small number of samples in previous domain data along with an uncertainty-aware updating strategy when new domain data arrives. For incremental learning, MA-MRC not only keeps a stable understanding by learning both memory and new domain data, but also makes full use of the domain adaptation relationship between them by adversarial learning strategy. The experimental results show that MA-MRC is superior to strong baselines and has a substantial incremental learning ability without catastrophically forgetting under two different continual MRC settings. © Findings of the Association for Computational Linguistics: NAACL 2022 - Findings.

In existing remote sensing image retrieval(RSIR)datasets,the number of images among different classes varies dramatically,which leads to a severe class imbalance *** studies propose to train the model with the ranking‐based metric(e.g.,average precision[AP]),because AP is robust to class ***,current AP‐based methods overlook an important issue:only optimising samples ranking before each positive sample,which is limited by the definition of AP and is prone to local *** achieve global optimisation of AP,a novel method,namely Optimising Samples after positive ones&AP loss(OSAP‐Loss)is proposed in this ***,a novel superior ranking function is designed to make the AP loss differentiable while providing a tighter upper ***,a novel loss called Optimising Samples after Positive ones(OSP)loss is proposed to involve all positive and negative samples ranking after each positive one and to provide a more flexible optimisation strategy for each ***,a graphics processing unit memory‐free mechanism is developed to thoroughly address the non‐decomposability of AP *** experimental results on RSIR as well as conventional image retrieval datasets show the superiority and competitive performance of OSAP‐Loss compared to the state‐of‐the‐art.

Evaluating reliability of software is hot concern for decision makers and software engineers seeing as if we assess, it cannot be mastered. It is common that reliability of system stratum could be employed for evaluating growth of testing of system with help of comparison of failure of currently implemented software with required system. It is also generic that reliability of system echelon assures improved utilization by the user consequently enhanced contentment of customers. In this paper, our goal is to put forward a meticulously analysis of reliability measurement process. As the existing approaches still lack software reliability, quality and its growth, successful generation of test cases, scalability with large software systems, cost and customer satisfaction. we have projected a new framework of software reliability measurement process based on software metrics. Our model is evaluated by comparing it with an existing model and a published case study. The control experiment is used to evaluate FESR Framework. © 2024 ACM.

Surface acoustic wave(SAW)tweezers are a promising multifunctional micromanipulation method that controls microscale targets via patterned acoustic *** to their device structure and bonding process,most SAW tweezers have limitations in terms of controlling the position and motion of the acoustic traps,as they generate an acoustic field with a fixed region and adjust the manipulation effects via signal *** address this challenge,we propose movable SAW tweezers with a multilayer structure,achieving dynamic control of their wave field and acoustic trap positions;we demonstrate their precise manipulation functions,such as translation,in-plane rotation,out-of-plane rotation,and cluster formation,on a wide spectrum of samples,including particles,bubbles,droplets,cells,and *** method not only improves the degree of freedom and working range of SAW tweezers but also allows for precise and selective manipulation of microtargets via microtools and localized *** to their flexibility,versatility,and biocompatibility,the movable SAW tweezers can be a practical platform for achieving arbitrary manipulation of microscale targets and have the potential to play significant roles in biomedical microrobotics.
