Fast calculations of vector electromagnetics in 3d periodic structures based on multiple scattering theory and broadband green’s function

We have developed a fast method of using Multiple Scattering Theory-Broadband Green’s Function (BBGF-MST) for band field calculations. In this paper, we successfully extended the method to the vector electromagnetic case of 3D periodic structures. In the MST-BBGF approach, the broadband transformation to vector spherical waves for 3D is derived using the Broadband Green’s function. The band eigenvalue problem is expressed in terms of the single scatterer T matrix which is independent of the periodic lattice nor the Bloch vector. For the first five bands, the dimension of the KKR eigen equation is merely 6, as 6 vector spherical waves are utilized for the scattered waves. We make extensive comparisons of the results with the commercial software COMSOL in both accuracy and computation efficiency. The CPU requirement on a standard laptop for the MST-BBGF method is merely 0.309 seconds for the first 5 bands. The MST-BBGF method is accurate and is at least two orders of magnitude faster than commercial software COMSOL. In the band field calculations, we employ the approach of extended coefficient to use the low order eigenvector of 6 to extend to 240 vector spherical wave coefficients without the need of recalculating the eigenvalue nor the eigenvector of the KKR equation. The extended coefficients approach gives accurate band field solutions for the entire (0, 0, 0) cell. © 2024, Electromagnetics Academy. All rights reserved.

Rate Outage Constrained Energy Efficiency Under MISO Interference Channels

This paper investigates the rate outage constrained (ROC) energy efficiency (EE) under multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channels, where only channel distribution information (CDI) is available at base stations (BSs). An EE maximization problem is formulated under the constraints of tolerable rate outage probability of each user and the power budget of each BS. Due to the computationally intractable form of the considered problem, two equivalent formulations are derived and four algorithms are proposed, where two are based on the block successive upper bound minimization (BSUM) method and the other two are based on the successive convex approximation (SCA) method. Further, the philosophies behind the BSUM-based algorithms and the SCA-based algorithms are analyzed. Numerical results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithms, while the BSUM-based algorithms are much more computationally efficient than all the state-of-the-art algorithms, as long as all the coupling requirements on quality of service (like ROC transmission) can be fused into EE. Besides, the impacts of power budget, circuit power and tolerable outage probability on the ROC EE are revealed and discussed. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A Hierarchical DRL Approach for Resource Optimization in Multi-RIS Multi-Operator Networks

As reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) emerge as a pivotal technology in the upcoming sixth-generation (6G) networks, its deployment within practical multiple operator (OP) networks presents significant challenges, including the coordination of RIS configurations among OPs, interference management, and privacy maintenance. A promising strategy is to treat RIS as a public resource managed by an RIS provider (RP), which can enhance resource allocation efficiency by allowing dynamic access for multiple OPs. However, the intricate nature of coordinating management and optimizing RIS configurations significantly complicates the implementation process. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical deep reinforcement learning (HDRL) approach that decomposes the complicated RIS resource optimization problem into several subtasks. Specifically, a top-level RP-agent is responsible for RIS allocation, while low-level OP-agents control their assigned RISs and handle beamforming, RIS phase-shifts, and user association. By utilizing the semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) theory, we establish a sophisticated interaction mechanism between the RP and OPs, and introduce an advanced hierarchical proximal policy optimization (HPPO) algorithm. Furthermore, we propose an improved sequential-HPPO (S-HPPO) algorithm to address the curse of dimensionality encountered with a single RP-agent. Experimental results validate the stability of the HPPO algorithm across various environmental parameters, demonstrating its superiority over other benchmarks for joint resource optimization. Finally, we conduct a detailed comparative analysis between the proposed S-HPPO and HPPO algorithms, showcasing that the S-HPPO algorithm achieves faster convergence and improved performance in large-scale RIS allocation scenarios. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

This paper investigates the anomaly-resistant decentralized state estimation(SE) problem for a class of wide-area power systems which are divided into several non-overlapping areas connected through transmission lines. Two classes of measurements(i.e., local measurements and edge measurements) are obtained, respectively, from the individual area and the transmission lines. A decentralized state estimator, whose performance is resistant against measurement with anomalies, is designed based on the minimum error entropy with fiducial points(MEEF) criterion. Specifically, 1) An augmented model, which incorporates the local prediction and local measurement, is developed by resorting to the unscented transformation approach and the statistical linearization approach;2) Using the augmented model, an MEEF-based cost function is designed that reflects the local prediction errors of the state and the measurement;and 3) The local estimate is first obtained by minimizing the MEEF-based cost function through a fixed-point iteration and then updated by using the edge measuring information. Finally, simulation experiments with three scenarios are carried out on the IEEE 14-bus system to illustrate the validity of the proposed anomaly-resistant decentralized SE scheme.

Perception module of Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are increasingly susceptible to be attacked, which exploit vulnerabilities in neural networks through adversarial inputs, thereby compromising the AI safety. Some researches focus on creating covert adversarial samples, but existing global noise techniques are detectable and difficult to deceive the human visual system. This paper introduces a novel adversarial attack method, AdvSwap, which creatively utilizes wavelet-based highfrequency information swapping to generate covert adversarial samples and fool the camera. AdvSwap employs invertible neural network for selective high-frequency information swapping, preserving both forward propagation and data integrity. The scheme effectively removes the original label data and incorporates the guidance image data, producing concealed and robust adversarial samples. Experimental evaluations and comparisons on the GTSRB and nuScenes datasets demonstrate that AdvSwap can make concealed attacks on common traffic targets. The generates adversarial samples are also difficult to perceive by humans and algorithms. Meanwhile, the method has strong attacking robustness and attacking transferability. © 2024 IEEE.

The proposed new method constructs a contrastive learning task through unsupervised image-to-image translation and indirectly extracts domain-invariant features by maximizing mutual information. Specifically, by reusing the semantic segmentation network for image-to-image translation, the probability space of the segmentation output is projected into the RGB space, thereby constructing positive and negative samples to maximize the mutual information between the input image and the semantic segmentation RGB projection map. Meanwhile, the output space of the target domain is transferred to the source domain, and then the robust domain-invariant semantic features are extracted. We develop two adversarial transfer methods and a three-stage training paradigm of pre-training, cross-domain transfer, and self-supervised training. Experiments on benchmarks demonstrate that this method is reasonable and feasible. Comprehensive ablation studies and analyses are also carried out to reveal the advantages and disadvantages of the two designed transfer schemes and the effect and significance of color-invariant semantic information for unsupervised semantic segmentation tasks. The contrastive learning task, which is constructed through unsupervised cross-domain image-to-image translation, provides a new insight for cross-domain transfer learning to overcome the problem of domain shift. © 2022, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A secure quantum homomorphic encryption ciphertext retrieval scheme

In a recent paper (Gong et al. Quantum Inf Process 19:3, 2020), a novel ciphertext retrieval scheme based on the Grover algorithm and quantum homomorphic encryption was presented. In this scheme, when the server performs the operation of marking the solution on the user’s encrypted state in the Grover iteration, it needs to remove many gate-errors generated in the homomorphic evaluation of the T gate. And the server could judge this specific solution from the quantum circuit of marking the solution. It makes this scheme unable to achieve the low-cost and secure ciphertext retrieval. Therefore, we improve the Gong et al.’s scheme and propose a secure quantum homomorphic encryption ciphertext retrieval scheme. In our scheme, the trusted third party is introduced to cooperate with the server to execute the Grover algorithm. In each Grover iteration, the trusted third party can quickly mark the solution on the plaintext state, encrypt the marked state, and transmit it to the server. Then the server performs the remaining operations of this Grover iteration on the encrypted state. The trusted third party finally decrypts the iterated state. This cooperative approach ensures that the number of auxiliary qubits required and extra quantum gates executed in our scheme are lower than the Gong et al.’s scheme. By analyzing the security of our scheme, we confirm that the server and the trusted third party will not be informed of this solution. Thus, our scheme realizes the secure ciphertext retrieval with low computational overhead. We utilize IBM’s Qiskit framework to simulate our scheme, and the experimental result shows that our scheme is correct. It is worth noting that the low-cost and secure ciphertext retrieval will play a crucial role in modern information security and privacy protection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.
