Recently, several real-world multi-objective optimization problem suites have been proposed to facilitate the evaluation of the performance of evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) algorithms. In spite of the importance of using real-world problems to evaluate EMO algorithms, their characteristics are not well understood compared to artificial test problems. Thus, there is a need to examine and understand the challenges posed by these real-world problems. In this study, we attempt to explore the characteristics of the most recently proposed real-world application suite (i.e., RWA suite). Six EMO algorithms are evaluated on the RWA suite, including three classic algorithms and three recently-proposed algorithms. Based on the performance comparison results, we systematically analyze the RWA suite in terms of convergence and diversity difficulties. © 2024 IEEE.

Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.

Pneumatic soft robots have garnered widespread attention for their flexibility and adaptability in various applications. However, existing soft robots generally struggle to effectively navigate diverse terrains, especially when it comes to climbing obstacles. This paper introduces an adaptive pneumatic soft robot designed based on snake-like locomotion, which effectively addresses this issue. The robot utilizes four corrugated tubes as its soft actuators, complemented by silicone-made feet with bidirectional friction anisotropy, enabling it to adapt to various terrains and exhibit climbing capabilities. Experiments demonstrate that the robot can traverse different surfaces such as sand, gravel, and slopes, and can climb obstacles up to 20 centimeters high. Additionally, it features a self-regulation mechanism that allows it to recover from accidental overturns. This study presents a soft robot design with multi-terrain adaptability and self-recovery capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

Towards Privacy-Aware Causal Structure Learning in Federated Setting

Causal structure learning has been extensively studied and widely used in machine learning and various applications. To achieve an ideal performance, existing causal structure learning algorithms often need to centralize a large amount of data from multiple data sources. However, in the privacy-preserving setting, it is impossible to centralize data from all sources and put them together as a single dataset. To preserve data privacy, federated learning as a new learning paradigm has attached much attention in machine learning in recent years. In this paper, we study a privacy-aware causal structure learning problem in the federated setting and propose a novel federated PC (FedPC) algorithm with two new strategies for preserving data privacy without centralizing data. Specifically, we first propose a novel layer-wise aggregation strategy for a seamless adaptation of the PC algorithm into the federated learning paradigm for federated skeleton learning, then we design an effective strategy for learning consistent separation sets for federated edge orientation. The extensive experiments validate that FedPC is effective for causal structure learning in federated learning setting. © 2023 IEEE.

Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. A Diffusion Model for Traffic Data Imputation

Imputation of missing data has long been an important topic and an essential application for intelligent transportation systems(ITS) in the real world. As a state-of-the-art generative model, the diffusion model has proven highly successful in image generation, speech generation, time series modelling *** now opens a new avenue for traffic data imputation. In this paper, we propose a conditional diffusion model, called the implicit-explicit diffusion model, for traffic data imputation. This model exploits both the implicit and explicit feature of the data simultaneously. More specifically, we design two types of feature extraction modules, one to capture the implicit dependencies hidden in the raw data at multiple time scales and the other to obtain the long-term temporal dependencies of the time series. This approach not only inherits the advantages of the diffusion model for estimating missing data, but also takes into account the multiscale correlation inherent in traffic data. To illustrate the performance of the model, extensive experiments are conducted on three real-world time series datasets using different missing *** experimental results demonstrate that the model improves imputation accuracy and generalization capability.

Due to its decentralized,tamper-proof,and trust-free characteristics,blockchain is used in the Internet of Things(IoT)to guarantee the reliability of ***,some technical flaws in blockchain itself prevent the development of these applications,such as the issue with linearly growing storage capacity of blockchain *** the other hand,there is a lack of storage resources for sensor devices in IoT,and numerous sensor devices will generate massive data at ultra-high speed,which makes the storage problem of the IoT enabled by blockchain more *** are various solutions to reduce the storage burden by modifying the blockchain’s storage policy,but most of them do not consider the willingness of *** attempt to make the blockchain more compatible with the IoT,this paper proposes a storage optimization scheme that revisits the system data storage problem from amore practically oriented *** will only store transactional data that they are directly involved *** addition,a transaction verification model is developed to enable peers to undertake transaction verification with the aid of cloud computing,and an incentive mechanism is premised on the storage optimization scheme to assure data *** results of the simulation experiments demonstrate the proposed scheme’s advantage in terms of storage and throughput.

RoG-SAM: A Language-Driven Framework for Instance-Level Robotic Grasping Detection

Robotic grasping is a crucial topic in robotics and computer vision, with broad applications in industrial production and intelligent manufacturing. Although some methods have begun addressing instance-level grasping, most remain limited to predefined instances and categories, lacking flexibility for open-vocabulary grasp prediction based on user-specified instructions. To address this, we propose RoG-SAM, a language-driven, instance-level grasp detection framework built on Segment Anything Model (SAM). RoG-SAM utilizes open-vocabulary prompts for object localization and grasp pose prediction, adapting SAM through transfer learning with encoder adapters and multi-head decoders to extend its segmentation capabilities to grasp pose estimation. Experimental results show that RoG-SAM achieves competitive performance on single-object datasets (Cornell and Jacquard) and cluttered datasets (GraspNet-1Billion and OCID), with instance-level accuracies of 91.2% and 90.1%, respectively, while using only 28.3% of SAM's trainable parameters. The effectiveness of RoG-SAM was also validated in real-world environments. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

In the era of big data,there is an urgent need to establish data trading markets for effectively releasing the tremendous value of the drastically explosive *** security and data pricing,however,are still widely regarded as major challenges in this respect,which motivate this research on the novel multi-blockchain based framework for data trading markets and their associated pricing *** this context,data recording and trading are conducted separately within two separate blockchains:the data blockchain(DChain) and the value blockchain(VChain).This enables the establishment of two-layer data trading markets to manage initial data trading in the primary market and subsequent data resales in the secondary ***,pricing mechanisms are then proposed to protect these markets against strategic trading behaviors and balance the payoffs of both suppliers and ***,in regular data trading on VChain-S2D,two auction models are employed according to the demand scale,for dealing with users’ strategic *** incentive-compatible Vickrey-Clarke-Groves(VCG)model is deployed to the low-demand trading scenario,while the nearly incentive-compatible monopolistic price(MP) model is utilized for the high-demand trading *** temporary data trading on VChain-D2S,a reverse auction mechanism namely two-stage obscure selection(TSOS) is designed to regulate both suppliers’ quoting and users’ valuation ***,experiments are carried out to demonstrate the strength of this research in enhancing data security and trading efficiency.
