Spoken language understanding (SLU) usually requires human semantic annotation on collected data, but the process is expensive. In order to make better use of unlabeled data for robust SLU, we propose an adversarial multi-task learning method by merging a bidirectional language model (BLM) and a slot tagging model (STM). As a secondary objective, the BLM is used to learn generalized and unsupervised knowledge with abundant unlabeled data and improve the performance of STM on unseen data samples. We construct a shared space for both tasks and independent private spaces for each task respectively. Additional adversarial task discriminator is also used to obtain more task-independent sharing information. Experiments show that the proposed approaches achieve the state-of-the-art performance on the small scale ATIS benchmark and significantly improve the semi-supervised performance on a large-scale dataset.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) have received a great attention recently due to their potential and various applications. However, the initial phase of the VANET has many research challenges that need to be addressed, such as the issues of security and privacy protection caused by the openness of wireless communication networks among the city-wide applied regions. Specially, anomaly detection for a VANET has become a challenging problem, due to the changes in the scenario of VANETs comparing with traditional wireless networks. Motivated by this issue, we focus on the problem of anomaly detection in VANETs, and propose an effective anomaly detection approach based on the convolutional neural network in this paper. The proposed approach takes into account the spatio-temporal and sparse features of VANET traffic, and it uses a convolutional neural network architecture and a loss function based on Mahalanobis distance for anomaly detection. Furthermore, a comprehensive assessment is provided to validate the proposed approach, which illustrates the effectiveness of this approach.

Diurnal rhythmicity in the gut maintains gut integrity, circadian rhythms, and metabolic homeostasis. However, existing studies focus on microbial composition rather than transcriptional activity. To understand microbial functional dynamics, we characterize diurnal fluctuations in the mouse cecal metatranscriptome and metagenome under high-fat diet and time-restricted feeding (TRF). We show that metatranscriptomics uncovers TRF-induced time-dependent microbial functional shifts that are undetectable with metagenomics alone. We also found bile salt hydrolase ( bsh ) from Dubosiella newyorkensis exhibits diurnal expression in the TRF group. Engineering this bsh , along with other candidates, into a native E. coli chassis reveals distinct differences in deconjugation and amidation activities, underscoring functional specificity. In vivo , a D. newyorkensis bsh improves insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, and body composition, suggesting a direct role in TRF metabolic benefits. This study highlights how coupling metatranscriptomics with engineered bacterial systems is a powerful approach for uncovering time-dependent bacterial functions related to health and disease.

A sphere-based list forwarding scheme for multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) relay networks is proposed and analyzed. Firstly, an estimate forwarding(EF) method is proposed, which forwards the minimum mean squared error(MMSE) estimate of the source data to the destination. Since it performs like amplify-and-forward(AF) and decode-and-forward(DF) for the low and high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) regions, respectively, the EF relay thus outperforms conventional AF and DF across all SNRs without the need for switching algorithms for different SNRs. Because computational complexity is however high for relays with a large number of antennas(large MIMO) and/or high order constellations, list EF for large MIMO relay networks is proposed. It computes a list sphere decoder based MMSE estimate and retains the advantages of the exact EF relay at a negligible performance loss. The proposed list EF could offer a flexible trade-off between the performance and computational complexity.

Virtual Strategy QoS routing in satellite networks

Satellite network users want to unify different satellites to enhance the quality-of-service(Qo S)stability of the satellite networks and select feasible paths through different networks to feed different applications. Unfortunately, the state of affairs is that different applications need to use several different application programming interfaces and to design different protocols on how and when to use a specific network. This is troublesome and error-prone as the application programming interfaces vary a lot. In this paper, we design a Virtual Strategy in satellite network based on which a Qo S routing service scheme is then proposed. We analyze why applications should use and benefit from Virtual Strategy. This Virtual Strategy is a middleware solution that enables seamless usage of services from different satellite network parts. And then, the supporting Qo S routing solution enables the committed Qo S services over Virtual Strategy. Finally, we provide a comparison between the previous satellite networks and our work. The simulation results show that our Virtual Strategy Qo S routing scheme demonstrates dominated performances under complex architecture.

The first observation and study of two new baryonic structures in the final state Ξb0π+π− and the confirmation of the Ξb(6100)− state in the Ξb−π+π− decay mode are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. In addition, the properties of the known Ξb*0, Ξb′− and Ξb*− resonances are measured with improved precision. The new decay mode of the Ξb0 baryon to the Ξc+ π− π+ π− final state is observed and exploited for the first time in these measurements.

Power substation is a vital component of power transmission systems. However, their location information, longitude and latitude, maybe incorrect due to human errors. For example, an employee of a power grid company may carelessly input wrong location information to the system database. In practice, these errors residue in database and are difficult to be corrected or even unaware of because human naturally are insensitive to these long numbers. Correct location information is critical and it will ensure destroyed power substations to be quickly pinpointed and repaired after earthquake. In this paper, we develop a deep transfer learning approach to automatically verify power substation location information based upon Google Earth (GE)images. We first extract an image patch for a substation from GE using the recorded location information in database. We then apply the deep transfer learning model to verify whether the image patch contains a power substation. We validated the proposed method on more than 1000 substations in Yunnan Electric Power Grid. Our experimental results showed that the Xception deep transfer model achieved the best accuracy of 98.5% among four compared machine learning methods with an image size of 299×299 pixels. The developed model is a promising tool to verify the location information of power substations in database. © 2018 IEEE.

In 2011, Cook et al. showed that the satisfiability and entailment can be checked in polynomial time for a fragment of separation logic that allows for reasoning about programs with pointers and linked lists. In this paper, we investigate whether the tractability results can be extended to more expressive fragments of separation logic that allow defining data structures beyond linked lists. To this end, we introduce separation logic with a simply-nonlinear compositional inductive predicate where source, destination, and static parameters are identified explicitly (SLIDSNC). We show that if the inductive predicate has more than one source (destination) parameter, the satisfiability problem for SLIDSNC becomes intractable in general. This is exemplified by an inductive predicate for doubly linked list segments. By contrast, if the inductive predicate has only one source (destination) parameter, the satisfiability and entailment problems for SLIDSNC are tractable. Optimal denial-of-service attack energy management over an SINR-based network

We consider a scenario in which a DoS attacker with the limited power resource and the purpose of degrading the system performance, jams a wireless network through which the packet from a sensor is sent to a remote estimator to estimate the system state. To degrade the estimation quality most effectively with a given energy budget, the attacker aims to solve the problem of how much power to obstruct the channel each time, which is the recently proposed optimal attack energy management problem. The existing works are built on an ideal network model in which the packet dropout never occurs when the attack is absent. To encompass wireless transmission losses, we introduce the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio-based network. First we focus on the case when the attacker employs the constant power level. To maximize the expected terminal estimation error at the remote estimator, we provide some sufficient conditions for the existence of an explicit solution to the optimal static attack energy management problem and the solution is constructed. Compared with the existing result in which corresponding sufficient conditions work only when the system matrix is normal, the obtained conditions in this paper are viable for a general system and shown to be more relaxed. For the other important index of system performance, the average expected estimation error, the associated sufficient conditions are also derived based on a different analysis approach with the existing work. And a feasible method is presented for both indexes to seek the optimal constant attack power level when the system fails to meet the proposed sufficient conditions. Then when the real-time ACK information can be acquired, the attacker desires a time-varying power attack strategy, based on which a Markov decision process (MDP) based algorithm is designed to solve the optimal dynamic attack energy management problem. Learning a saliency evaluation metric using crowdsourced perceptual judgments

In the area of human fixation prediction, dozens of computational saliency models are proposed to reveal certain saliency characteristics under different assumptions and definitions. As a result, saliency model benchmarking often requires several evaluation metrics to simultaneously assess saliency models from multiple perspectives. However, most computational metrics are not designed to directly measure the perceptual similarity of saliency maps so that the evaluation results may be sometimes inconsistent with the subjective impression. To address this problem, this paper first conducts extensive subjective tests to find out how the visual similarities between saliency maps are perceived by humans. Based on the crowdsourced data collected in these tests, we conclude several key factors in assessing saliency maps and quantize the performance of existing metrics. Inspired by these factors, we propose to learn a saliency evaluation metric based on a two-stream convolutional neural network using crowdsourced perceptual judgements. Specifically, the relative saliency score of each pair from the crowdsourced data is utilized to regularize the network during the training process. By capturing the key factors shared by various subjects in comparing saliency maps, the learned metric better aligns with human perception of saliency maps, making it a good complement to the existing metrics. Experimental results validate that the learned metric can be generalized to the comparisons of saliency maps from new images, new datasets, new models and synthetic data.
