Recently, evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) algorithms have been used in various application fields. Whereas many new EMO algorithms are proposed every year, well-known EMO algorithms such as NSGA-II, MOEA/D, SMS-EMOA and NSGA-III have been still frequently used in application papers as shown by their number of citations. Since most EMO algorithms have been designed for and evaluated by artificial test problems such as DTLZ and WFG, they do not always work well on real-world problems. Main difficulties of real-world problems are as follows: (i) their Pareto front shapes are irregular, (ii) some objectives have much larger values than others, (iii) some decision variables have much larger values than others, (iv) some objectives are highly correlated, and (v) solution evaluation is expensive. In this paper, we focus on the first four difficulties (except for expensive solution evaluation). Our goal is to clearly explain problematic search behaviors of NSGA-II, MOEA/D, SMS-EMOA and NSGA-III caused by these difficulties using simple distance minimization problems. We formulate various distance minimization problems with the above-mentioned four difficulties by changing the location of each target point on the map as well as the size and shape of the map. We also suggest simple remedies for performance improvement of each algorithm for real-world applications without changing the algorithm itself. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The rapid growth of textual data on the web has led researchers to develop methods in Natural Language Processing (NLP) to process, understand, and identify topics... Among these methods, Topic Modeling helps extract relevant topics, represented as clusters of words. However, interpreting these clusters into meaningful topics remains a challenge. This limitation has led to further research into topic labelingan approach for assigning comprehensive and semantically meaningful labels to topic modeling results, ensuring that they are interpretable and understandable from a human perspective. In this paper, we present a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on topic labeling. This review explores its definition, geographical and time distribution, methodologies, datasets, evaluation methods, successes, and challenges. This paper presents an SLR on topic labeling, synthesizing insights from 41 high-quality studies. It serves as a rich source of information for researchers interested in investigating different approaches for discovering topics within textual data. It addresses the various aspects of topic labeling and includes discussions that highlight the challenges of this approach, encouraging further research in this field. © 2013 IEEE.

The burgeoning market for lithium-ion batteries has stimulated a growing need for more reliable battery performance monitoring. Accurate state-of-health(SOH) estimation is critical for ensuring battery operational performance. Despite numerous data-driven methods reported in existing research for battery SOH estimation, these methods often exhibit inconsistent performance across different application scenarios. To address this issue and overcome the performance limitations of individual data-driven models,integrating multiple models for SOH estimation has received considerable attention. Ensemble learning(EL) typically leverages the strengths of multiple base models to achieve more robust and accurate outputs. However, the lack of a clear review of current research hinders the further development of ensemble methods in SOH estimation. Therefore, this paper comprehensively reviews multi-model ensemble learning methods for battery SOH estimation. First, existing ensemble methods are systematically categorized into 6 classes based on their combination strategies. Different realizations and underlying connections are meticulously analyzed for each category of EL methods, highlighting distinctions, innovations, and typical applications. Subsequently, these ensemble methods are comprehensively compared in terms of base models, combination strategies, and publication trends. Evaluations across 6 dimensions underscore the outstanding performance of stacking-based ensemble methods. Following this, these ensemble methods are further inspected from the perspectives of weighted ensemble and diversity, aiming to inspire potential approaches for enhancing ensemble performance. Moreover, addressing challenges such as base model selection, measuring model robustness and uncertainty, and interpretability of ensemble models in practical applications is emphasized. Generating photo-realistic images from a text description is a challenging problem in computer *** works have shown promising performance to generate synthetic images conditional on text by Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs).In this paper,we focus on the category-consistent and relativistic diverse constraints to optimize the diversity of synthetic *** on those constraints,a category-consistent and relativistic diverse conditional GAN(CRD-CGAN)is proposed to synthesize K photo-realistic images *** use the attention loss and diversity loss to improve the sensitivity of the GAN to word attention and ***,we employ the relativistic conditional loss to estimate the probability of relatively real or fake for synthetic images,which can improve the performance of basic conditional ***,we introduce a category-consistent loss to alleviate the over-category issues between K synthetic *** evaluate our approach using the Caltech-UCSD Birds-200-2011,Oxford 102 flower and MS COCO 2014 datasets,and the extensive experiments demonstrate superiority of the proposed method in comparison with state-of-the-art methods in terms of photorealistic and diversity of the generated synthetic images.

CRP2-VCS: Contrast-Oriented Region-Based Progressive Probabilistic Visual Cryptography Schemes

Most visual cryptography schemes (VCSs) are condition-oriented which implies their designs focus on satisfying the contrast and security conditions in VCS. In this paper, we explore a new architecture of VCS: contrast-oriented region-based progressive probabilistic VCS (CRP2-VCS). The term contrast-oriented indicates the optimality of multi-contrast is taken into consideration when producing shadows. First of all, new requirements for CRP2-VCS, described by probabilities, are introduced. As a non-interference requirement is proposed, the secret interference problem in existing region-based progressive VCS can be avoided. Then, a construction of CRP2-VCS based on a multi-contrast-maximizing model is provided. The multi-contrast-maximizing problem is essentially a probabilistic VCS model that fuses region-based sharing, multi-contrast optimization, and general access structure (GAS) together. Finally, a Max-Min based technique is adopted to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. Moreover, to further boost the visual quality, the proposed method is extended to allow employing XOR operation for image recovery. Experimental results and comparisons are demonstrated to show the effectiveness and advantages, such as optimal visual quality, non-expansible shadow and GAS sharing policy, are provided by the proposed technique. © 1991-2012 IEEE.
