Sparse coding has been used for target appearance modeling and applied successfully in visual tracking. However, noise may be inevitably introduced into the representation due to background clutter. To cope with this problem, we propose a saliency weighted sparse coding appearance model for visual tracking. Firstly, a spectral filtering based visual attention computational model, which combines both bottom-up and top-down visual attention, is proposed to calculate saliency map. Secondly, pooling operation in sparse coding is weighted by calculated saliency map to help target representation focus on distinctive features and suppress background clutter. Extensive experiments on a recently proposed tracking benchmark demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art methods in tracking objects under background clutter.

Lack of the field data of intersection, it is highly difficult to calibrate parameters of the intersection models. In this paper, a novel topological mapping approach applied to the navigation mission is proposed based on visual sensor network. Firstly, the natural objects in the scene monitored by visual sensor network are recognized through the inference model based on structural features. Then, topological nodes are designed according to the recognized objects and their spatial structure information, and topological mapping will be fulfilled. On this basis, global localization for mobile robot in camera view can be implemented with HOG feature based detection and tracking. Finally, the robot can make motion decisions for navigation. Our approach does not rely on artificial landmarks and is tested in large-scale office scene. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified.

Understanding the strategies to optimize/suppress information spreads under intense competition could provide important insights in a broad range of settings including viral marketing, emergency response and information system design. However, most of existing studies about competitive influence diffusion mainly focus on two-information competition mechanism. To date, the competitive influence maximization problem considering the mechanism of multi-information competition is still not well studied. In this paper, we conducted computational experiments to study the competitive influence maximization with multi-information competition mechanism. By applying an information diffusion model called limited attention model (LAM), we carried on two computational experiments to validate the model and investigate the relation between seed selection methods and the properties of information cascades. Our experimental results show that 1) the LAM model could reproduce the features of empirical distribution in Chinese social media; 2) the eigenvector centrality-based heuristic is a reasonable seed selection method for competitive influence maximization problem. The results of this paper can provide significant potential implications for information system design and management.

A monocular vision measurement approach is presented for leader-follower robotic system to estimate the position of the leader robot relative to the follower robot. The color identifier with green and red blocks is attached on the back of the leader robot, and it may be captured by the camera mounted on the follower robot. A coarse-to-fine searching method is given to extract the center point of the identifier. The parameters of the camera with the combination of the intrinsic and extrinsic ones are calibrated via least square method with given relative positions and the corresponding image coordinates of the identifier's center. The parameters are further optimized with Levenberg-Marquardt method. Then the position of the leader robot relative to the follower robot can be estimated only with single feature point. The experimental results verify the validity of the given approach.

Web user's online interactive behavior with others often makes some user generated contents popular. The modeling and prediction of the popularity of online content are an important research issue for many key application domains. In this paper, we focus on one form of user generated content, forum threads, and their popularity prediction for public events security. To predict the popularity of forum threads, we first define the popularity prediction problem, and identify the dynamic factors that affect the popularity of forum threads. Based on the information of dynamic evolution at the early stage, we propose a popularity prediction algorithm which makes use of the locality property and combines multiple dynamic factors. The proposed algorithm is further evaluated using the Tianya forum dataset on the discussions of various public events. The experimental results show that, compared to the baseline methods, our method achieves relatively better performance in predicting the popularity of forum threads on public events security.

Information technology has significant potential to enhance the engineering quality of the risk management of railway construction projects. The Shanghai Railway Bureau has promoted a risk management method based on the “A Figure and Four Tables” method (AFFTM) to assess the engineering quality; however, this method still suffers from several problems in railway construction project management. In this paper, we have combined the concepts and processes of the AFFTM with those of information technology and presented the implementation scheme of a new risk managementsystem—the railway construction project quality risk management information system (RCPQRMIS)—that can be used to design and develop workable information tools for quality risk management. The paper analyzes the data standards of RCPQRMIS and creates a model for dynamically tracking the quality risk (“quality risk dynamic tracking” model) for providing pre-warning information on quality risk (“quality risk pre-warning” model) and for automatically generating publicity parameters for quality risk (“automatically generated quality risk publicity figure” model). The proposed system enables the visualization of the quality associated with the risk control, dynamic tracking, automatic pre-warning, and closed-loop management of railway construction projects. In addition, this paper presents the functional modules of the RCPQRMIS and its practical applications. Our application results show that the system successfully realized unified management of risk source information and multi-level sharing. In this manner, by using our system, we were able to significantly improve real-time tracking and pre-warning of the risk state, automatic generation of quality risk publicity figures, efficiency, and risk management levels.
