The problem of traffic signal control is essential but remains unsolved. Some researchers use online reinforcement learning, including the off-policy one, to derive an optimal control policy through interaction between agents and environments in simulation. However, it is difficult to deploy the policy in real transportation systems due to the gap between simulated and real traffic data. In this paper, we consider an offline reinforcement learning method to tackle the problem. First, we construct a realistic traffic environment and obtain offline data based on a classic actuated traffic signal controller. Then, we use an offline reinforcement learning algorithm, namely conservative Q-learning, to learn an efficient control policy via offline datasets. We conduct experiments on a typical road intersection and compare the conservative Q-learning policy with the actuated policy and two data-driven policies based on off-policy reinforcement learning and imitation learning. Empirical results indicate that in the offline-learning setting the conservative Q-learning policy performs significantly better than other baselines, including the actuated policy, but the other two data-driven policies perform poorly in test scenarios.

The sole situation of semi-crystalline structure induced single performance remarkably limits the green cryogels in the application of soft devices due to uncontrolled freezing field. Here, a facile strategy for achieving multifunctionality of cryogels is proposed using total amorphization of polymer. Through precisely lowering the freezing point of precursor solutions with an antifreezing salt, the suppressed growth of ice is achieved, creating an unusually weak and homogenous aggregation of polymer chains upon freezing, thereby realizing the tunable amorphization of polymer and the coexistence of free and hydrogen bonding hydroxyl groups. Such multi-scale microstructures trigger the integrated properties of tissue-like ultrasoftness (Young’s modulus <10 kPa) yet stretchability, high transparency (~92%), self-adhesion, and instantaneous self-healing (<0.3 s) for cryogels, along with superior ionic-conductivity, antifreezing (−58 °C) and water-retention abilities, pushing the development of skin-like cryogel electronics. These concepts open an attractive branch for cryogels that adopt regulated crystallization behavior for on-demand functionalities. © 2023, Springer Nature Limited.

Greenhouse environment control is challenging since it is a partially open system being complex, nonlinear and highly uncertain. For such a complex system, empirical knowledge is often not sufficient to control the environment well. This paper proposes an approach for environment control based on computational experiments. The data source is from the second Autonomous Greenhouses International Challenge. Descriptive model is built with lightGBM algorithm for air temperature and CO2 concentration inside greenhouse. Computational experiments were carried out to optimize the ventilation opening, which has double effect of cooling and CO2 concentration decreasing. The aim of optimization is to keep the temperature as close as possible to the set line, while keeping a necessary level of CO2 concentration. The results indicate that the temperature can be better controlled than the original empirical methods for different conditions, while the CO2 concentration is maintained. The proposed approach overcomes the shortage of controlling ventilation with static knowledge, and can be applied to the real greenhouse. © 2020 ACM.

In this paper, a monocular visual-inertial odometry that utilize both point and line features is deduced. Compared with point features, line features provide more geometric information of the environment, which are more reliable in textureless scenes. However, extracting line segment features from the image are very time consuming, which will affect the real-time performance of the system. To deal with this problem, EDLines line segment detector is introduced to replace the LSD *** properties of lines are utilized to reject the mismatching of line segment feature. Pl ¨ucker coordinates and orthonormal representation of lines are used to represent 3 D lines. Afterwards, we optimize the state by minimizing a cost function consists of pre-integrated IMU residuals and visual feature re-projection residuals in a sliding window optimization framework. The proposed odometry was tested on the public datasets. The results demonstrate that the presented system can operate in real time with high accuracy.

A numerical technique called Simulated Ising Annealing (SIA) uses digital computers to obtain approximations of the ground states of Ising models. The quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problem in combinatorial optimization, which is challenging to solve through exhaustive search, has significant linkages to the Ising model. Therefore, SIA's main objective is to identify a better solution in finite iterations. In order to enhance the performance of the simulated annealing procedure, we adopt a Gaussian augmented Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (GAHMC) method in this study. We contrasted our algorithm with Gibbs sampling and local quantum annealing method. Finally, we discuss its application on QUBO problem.

Graph neural networks(GNNs) have shown great popularity and achieved promising performance on various graph-based tasks in the past years. However, there is little work that explores the information fusion mechanism, which plays an import role in GNNs. Besides, datasets in the real world often have noises, which make the information fusion difficult. In this paper, we give an information-theoretic explanation. Specifically, we focus on how the information from topological structures and node features fuses and how different information contributes to the downstream task. Furthermore, we propose a general framework named M-GCN to express the fusion process in GNNs. Graph embeddings and feature graph are introduced to extract the information from topological structure and node features separately in M-GCN. Extensive experiments are conducted on several benchmark datasets and experimental results show that our proposed models are more robust and outperform state-of-the-art methods.

This paper investigates the problem of outlier-resistant distributed fusion filtering(DFF)for a class of multi-sensor nonlinear singular systems(MSNSSs)under a dynamic event-triggered scheme(DETS).To relieve the effect of measurement outliers in data transmission,a self-adaptive saturation function is ***,to further reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node and improve the efficiency of resource utilization,a DETS is adopted to regulate the frequency of data *** the addressed MSNSSs,our purpose is to construct the local outlier-resistant filter under the effects of the measurement outliers and the DETS;the local upper bound(UB)on the filtering error covariance(FEC)is derived by solving the difference equations and minimized by designing proper filter ***,according to the local filters and their UBs,a DFF algorithm is presented in terms of the inverse covariance intersection fusion *** such,the proposed DFF algorithm has the advantages of reducing the frequency of data transmission and the impact of measurement outliers,thereby improving the estimation ***,the uniform boundedness of the filtering error is discussed and a corresponding sufficient condition is ***,the validity of the developed algorithm is checked using a simulation example.

To facilitate ground station monitoring and command uploading, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) need to frequently exchange individual state data between units. However, this results in a significant usage of communication bandwidth. To address this issue, on the basis of an event-triggered strategy, this paper proposes an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). aimed at reducing the communication burden of UAVs while maintaining high accuracy. Specifically, a state measurement triggered by an event is selected for filtering only if it contains innovation, thereby reducing the amount of data that needs to be communicated. Since UAV systems are nonlinear, EKF is adopted to fully utilize the information obtained from event-triggered strategies, thereby enhancing the estimation performance. In this paper, a physical UAV was used to verify the proposed algorithm, and it proved to have robust dynamic performance and to effectively reduce the communication rate.

Isochronous Temporal Metric for Neighbourhood Analysis in Classification Tasks

Machine learning, classification, and clustering techniques use the distance functions to evaluate the proximity between data entries and deduce the best neighbouring element and the closest matching entry. The best neighbour is not only the closest neighbour but a neighbour that is quick to respond. In view of that, a time-based isochronous metric is introduced to evaluate the best neighbours and form linkages by grouping similar entities. The proposed method uses parametric equations of the fastest descent and solves the time variables for attributes localised in curved space–time. The time metric is compared with commonly used distance metrics for accuracy in classification and clustering using benchmark and commonly used datasets. The nearest-neighbour technique is used for evaluating classification accuracy, and an adjusted random index (ARI) is used to evaluate clustering. The proposed method shows better accuracy and ARI in comparison to distance functions. It also assigns better weights to attributes of the dataset and easily identifies repeated patterns in noisy time series data.
