As one of the most effective vehicles for ocean development and exploration,underwater gliding robots(UGRs)have the unique characteristics of low energy consumption and strong ***,by borrowing the motion principles of current underwater robots,a variety of novel UGRs have emerged with improving their maneuverability,concealment,and environmental friendliness,which significantly broadens the ocean *** this paper,we provide a comprehensive review of underwater gliding robots,including prototype design and their key *** the perspective of motion characteristics,we categorize the underwater gliding robots in terms of traditional underwater gliders(UGs),hybrid-driven UGs,bio-inspired UGs,thermal UGs,and ***,their buoyancy driven system,dynamic and energy model,and motion control are concluded with detailed ***,we have discussed the current critical issues and future *** review offers valuable insight into the development of next-generation underwater robots well-suited for various oceanic applications,and aims to gain more attention of researchers and engineers to this growing field.

Point Cloud Classification Using Content-Based Transformer via Clustering in Feature Space

Recently, there have been some attempts of Transformer in 3D point cloud classification. In order to reduce computations, most existing methods focus on local spatial attention,but ignore their content and fail to establish relationships between distant but relevant points. To overcome the limitation of local spatial attention, we propose a point content-based Transformer architecture, called PointConT for short. It exploits the locality of points in the feature space(content-based), which clusters the sampled points with similar features into the same class and computes the self-attention within each class, thus enabling an effective trade-off between capturing long-range dependencies and computational complexity. We further introduce an inception feature aggregator for point cloud classification, which uses parallel structures to aggregate high-frequency and low-frequency information in each branch separately. Extensive experiments show that our PointConT model achieves a remarkable performance on point cloud shape classification. Especially, our method exhibits 90.3% Top-1 accuracy on the hardest setting of ScanObjectN N. Source code of this paper is available at https://***/yahuiliu99/PointC onT.

Blind Image Despeckling Using a Multiscale Attention-Guided Neural Network

Coherent imaging systems have been applied in the detection of target of interest, natural resource exploration, ailment diagnosis, etc. However, it is easy to generate speckle-degraded images due to the coherent interference of reflected echoes, restricting these practical applications. Speckle noise is a granular interference that affects the observed reflectivity. It is often modeled as multiplicative noise with a negative exponential distribution. This nonlinear property makes despeckling of imaging data an intractable problem. To enhance the despeckling performance, we propose to blindly remove speckle noise using an intelligent computing-enabled multiscale attention-guided neural network (termed MSANN). In particular, we first introduce the logarithmic transformation to convert the multiplicative speckle noise model to an additive version. Our MSANN, essentially a feature pyramid network, is then exploited to restore degraded images in the logarithmic domain. To enhance the generalization ability of the MSANN, a multiscale feature enhancement attention module is incorporated into the MSANN to extract multiscale features for improving the imaging quality. A multiscale mixed loss function is further presented to increase the network robustness during training. The final despeckled images are naturally equivalent to the exponential versions of the output of the MSANN. Experimental results have shown that the MSANN has the capacity of effectively removing the speckle noise while preserving essential structures. It can achieve superior despeckling results in terms of visual quality and quantitative measures. © 2020 IEEE.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising technology to tailor complex structures in a layer-by-layer fashion. Its wide adoption, however, is hampered by occurrence of defects that deteriorates product quality. Defect detection methods have therefore been developed to address quality issues, primarily utilizing deep learning models. Despite achieving appreciable results, these models require a substantial amount of labeled data and extensive training, which are costly and time-consuming. Thus, it is worth developing a new approach that can perform defect detection (1) with minimal labeled data, and (2) without the necessity for model updating. Recently, the large language model (LLM) has demonstrated remarkable generalization capability across various fields. It features an in-context learning (ICL) capability that allows it to learn from a context without any retraining. This study explores the potential of applying an LLM for AM defect detection based on ICL. To this end, a dataset pertaining to the resin deposition status in vat photopolymerization, as a field where prevailing LLMs have limited exposure, is collected. Two contributions are made to achieve more accurate defect detection by prompting. First, a multimodal context that includes both image-label pairs and expert knowledge is tailored, which contains comprehensive information about deposition status. Second, a repeated query and voting (RQV) technique is proposed to mitigate occasional misjudgements, thus enhancing the reliability of the defect detection. Comprehensive ablation studies verify the effectiveness of both the multimodal context and RQV technique. As a result, 96.2% classification accuracy is achieved in such a challenging few-shot setting, obviating the need of model updating. © 2024 IEEE.

This letter is a brief summary of a series of IEEE TIV's decentralized and hybrid workshops (DHWs) on Federated Intelligence for Intelligent Vehicles. The discussed results are: 1) Different scales of large models (LMs) can be federated and deployed on IVs, and three types of federated collaboration between large and small models can be adopted for IVs. 2) Federated fine-tuning of LMs is beneficial for IVs data security. 3) The sustainability of IVs can be improved through optimizing existing models and continuous learning using federated intelligence. 4) LM-enhanced knowledge can make IVs smarter. Semantic Coherence Guided Multiview Similarity for Image Classification with Varied Supervision

Pairwise similarity has been widely used for image classification by propagating the class information from labeled images to unlabeled images and predicting the classes of unlabeled images accordingly. Although widely used, pairwise similarity based classification methods have two drawbacks. On one hand, visual-semantic similarity consistency does not always hold due to semantic gap. On the other hand, the reliability of pairwise similarity is also influenced by the number and underlying distribution of labeled images. A well-designed classification model cannot be easily generalized to few-shot classification tasks. To solve these two problems, in this article, we propose a semantic coherence guided multiview similarity (SCG-MV) for image classification method with varied supervision levels. We measure the semantic coherence between image pairs for classifier learning. This is achieved by first conducting line search along the line segment between each image pair, and then measure the semantics of each interval. The similarity of one image pair can then be obtained by aggregating the semantic coherence of all the intervals. In this way, we can model image similarities more finely and discriminatively. To make use of multiview information, we also use the semantic coherence guided image similarities to learn multiview classifiers. The proposed semantic coherence guided method can be combined with other similarity based methods for image classification with various levels of supervision. We conduct both few-shot and fully supervised classification experiments on four datasets with the results well prove the discriminative power and generalization ability of the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

Data-driven finite-time adaptive attitude tracking control for spacecraft

This paper proposes a novel data-driven finite-time adaptive control method for the spacecraft attitude tracking control problem with inertial uncertainty. Based on the dynamic regression extension technique, the disturbance unit matrix is introduced, and the parameter estimation law in the form of algebraic equations is presented, which realizes the arbitrarily small convergence of parameter estimation error. The convergence of parameter estimation errors is verified through stability analysis. Globally non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control is designed to achieve finite-time arrival of the sliding surface and convergence of the system state error. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method. Furthermore, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified through numerical simulations of spacecraft attitude tracking control. © 2025 COSPAR

Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning for Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Pseudo supervision is regarded as the core idea in semi-supervised learning for semantic segmentation, and there is always a tradeoff between utilizing only the high-quality pseudo labels and leveraging all the pseudo labels. Addressing that, we propose a novel learning approach, called Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning (CPCL), among which two predictive networks are trained in parallel, and the pseudo supervision is implemented based on both the agreement and disagreement of the two predictions. One network seeks common ground via intersection supervision and is supervised by the high-quality labels to ensure a more reliable supervision, while the other network reserves differences via union supervision and is supervised by all the pseudo labels to keep exploring with curiosity. Thus, the collaboration of conservative evolution and progressive exploration can be achieved. To reduce the influences of the suspicious pseudo labels, the loss is dynamic re-weighted according to the prediction confidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CPCL achieves state-of-the-art performance for semi-supervised semantic segmentation. © 1992-2012 IEEE.
