Manipulating high-valent metal-oxo [M (IV)=O] species in a catalytic system is pivotal, however, it is challenging due to the inefficiency and unsustainability of M(IV)=O generation. In this research, Co2(OH)2CO3 (COC) were successfully prepared via a one-pot hydrothermal method to efficiently activate PMS with high-valent cobalt-oxo species [Co (IV)=O] as the primary active oxidation species. Building upon this foundation, COC was modified through variations in metal types (Fe, Cu, Ag, Mn) and elemental ratios, in which magnetically enriched FexCo2-x(OH)2CO3 (Fe-COC) was synthesized by gradient Fe doping with higher catalytic efficiency and stability. The insertion of Fe resulted in the lengthening of the Co-O bond and improved the valence distribution of cobalt on the COC surface. At the same time, it enabled part of the electrons to be transferred from the Fe active center to the Co active center, breaking the limitation of the traditional two-electron transfer and realizing the stable generation of more high-valent metals. Meanwhile, the performance and mechanism of the two catalysts (COC/PMS system and Fe-COC/PMS system) were comparatively analyzed, in which the contribution of singlet oxygen was second to high-valent metals while sulphate and hydroxyl radicals were rarely existed. Overall, the two groups of developed catalysts both showed remarkable stability and pollutant removal performance in anions (NO3-, Cl-, HCO3-, H2PO4-, HPO42-), humic acid (HA), Different antibiotics (SDM, SCP, STZ, ICP, TAP) and real water systems, which provided new perspectives on the generation of high valence metals for the treatment of persistent organic pollutants via the non-radical pathway and the application of alkali carbonates. © 2024, The Authors. Membrane distillation (MD) has gained extensive attention for treating highly saline wastewater. However, conventional MD membranes often encounter challenges related to scaling and wetting during the desalination process, hindering the rapid development and industrialization of MD technology. Current approaches to mitigate scaling in membrane distillation focus primarily on achieving enhanced hydrophobicity and even superhydrophobicity via utilizing fluorinated fibrous membrane or introducing perfluorosilane modification. Considering the environmental hazards posed by fluorinated compounds, it is highly desirable to develop non-fluorinated membranes with enhanced anti-scaling properties for effective membrane distillation. In this study, we present a non-fluorinated liquid-like MD membrane with exceptional anti-scaling performance. This membrane was facilely fabricated by grafting linear polydimethylsiloxane (LPDMS) onto a hydrophilic polyether sulfone (PES) membrane pre-coated with the intermediate layers of polydopamine and silica (denoted as LPDMS-PES). Remarkably, LPDMS-PES manifested a drastically improved scaling resistance in continuous MD tests than its perfluorinated counterpart, i.e., 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane-modified PES membrane (PFOS-PES), in both heterogeneous nucleation-dominated and crystal deposition-dominated scaling processes. LPDMS-PES demonstrated a scale reduction of approximately 85% for NaCl and 73% for CaSO4 in the heterogeneous nucleation-dominated scaling process compared to PFOS-PES. Additionally, in the crystal deposition-dominated scaling process LPDMS-PES exhibited a reduction of about 70% in scale accumulation. These results explicitly evidenced the great potential of the liquid-like membrane to minimize scaling in membrane distillation by inhibiting both scale nucleation and adhesion onto the membrane. Natural gas load forecasting is crucial for the safe operation of urban natural gas. Based on the system identification method, the short-term natural gas load forecasting is studied in the paper. Employing a multi-stage identification framework, the initial values of the model parameters using the least squares and the instrumental variables method, while the model parameters are further optimized by the prediction error method to improve the accuracy of the model identification. The proposed method is validated by the simulation based on the public natural gas data in the U.S., demonstrating the algorithm's effectiveness in forecasting the daily natural gas load effectively.

The stretchable conductive materials with adjustable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance and other multifunctional integrated applications are remarkably desirable and challenging in flexible electronics. However, the existing stretchable materials often suffer from the decay of EMI shielding performance during the stretching process, which limits their practical applications. Meanwhile, it remains a great challenge to construct materials with ordered porous frameworks as integrated shielding devices. Incorporating porous structure will generate abundant interior surfaces/interfaces, facilitating multiple reflections of incident electromagnetic waves (EMWs). Herein, we employ ultrasound method to modify liquid metal (LM) with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and further utilize an UV in-situ polymerization method to fabricate CNT@LM/polyacrylamide/gelatin (LMCPG) dual network hydrogel elastomer. The LMCPG hydrogel elastomer possesses high strength and durability, and its tensile strength reaches 117 kPa at 1033 % strain owing to the high strength of the rigid network and the beneficial deformation ability of the flexible network. Deformable CNT@LM droplets elongate randomly during stretching process, which facilitates establishing more conductive paths. The EMI shielding capacity of the stretched elastomer can be controlled, achieving an intelligent on-off behavior, which exhibits a 211 % increase at 200 % strain in EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) compared with the undeformed state. Moreover, the LMCPG elastomer shows a significant triboelectric performance, which can provide power supply for flexible electronic devices, achieving an uninterrupted monitoring of the human body motion by devices. Therefore, as a flexible electronic material, it can offer a facile solution to achieve intelligent multifunctional integrated EMI shielding materials. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Foam metal can be more effective in quenching gas and dust explosion flame in this research, a platform was created to experiment with dust deflagration using transparent quartz tubes and high-speed photography. The study focused on how copper foam affects flame propagation during deflagration of three kinds of dust: polyethylene, aluminum, and wheat. The results showed that copper foam hinders the flame front displacement and reduces fluctuations in flame propagation velocity when compared to deflagrations that do not have copper foam. However, placing copper foam too close to the ignition source can increase the magnitude of fluctuations in the early stages of the deflagration. When copper foam was placed 360mm above the source of ignition, the 10PPI and 20PPI copper foam were able to decrease the flame of polyethylene dust and aluminum dust. As the porosity of the metal foam increases, the 30PPI copper foam can completely extinguish the flame of the three powders. The research also found that copper foam can divide the flame, quench the flame entering the copper foam, and block some of the burned and unburned powders, there by reducing the energy of the deflagration and weakening the reaction. © 2023, The Authors. The self-levitation of a cylindrical permanent magnet wrapped by shells immersed in ferrofluid (FF) is studied in this paper. The calculation formula of the magnetic fluid levitation force (MFLF) received by the magnet and shells is derived, and the dependence between MFLF, the mass of FF and the levitation height of the magnet is studied. Attention is paid to the influence of the magnetization direction of the magnet and shells on MFLF, and experiments have been designed and carried out to study the MFLF. Research shows that both the magnetization direction of the magnet and shells can affect the MFLF, and the use of soft magnetic shells and radial magnetized magnet is beneficial to obtain a smaller axial MFLF. Besides, the magnetization direction of the magnet has a significant influence on the distribution and surface instability of FF which are the key factors affecting the MFLF. There are two intervals in which the MFLF changes drastically for the axial magnetized cylindrical magnet but only one for the magnet with radial magnetization, and the reason is that the surface instability of FF caused by axial magnetized magnet plays a significant role in the axial MFLF while the surface instability caused by radial magnetized magnet almost has no influence on the axial MFLF. © 2023, The Authors. In the context of climate change and over-exploitation of water resources, water shortage and water pollution in arid regions have become major constraints to local sustainable development. In this study, we established a Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model for simulating non-point source (NPS) pollution in the irrigation area of the lower reaches of the Kaidu River Basin, based on spatial and attribute data (2010-2014). Four climate change scenarios (2040-2044) and two agricultural management scenarios were input into the SWAT model to quantify the effects of climate change and agricultural management on solvents and solutes of pollutants in the study area. The simulation results show that compared to the reference period (2010-2014), with a decline in streamflow from the Kaidu River, the average annual irrigation water consumption is expected to decrease by 3.84x10⁸ m³ or 8.87% during the period of 2040-2044. Meanwhile, the average annual total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in agricultural drainage canals will also increase by 10.50% and 30.06%, respectively. Through the implementation of agricultural management measures, the TN and TP in farmland drainage can be reduced by 14.49% and 16.03%, respectively, reaching 661.56 t and 12.99 t, accordingly, and the increasing water efficiency can save irrigation water consumption by 4.41 x10⁸ m³ or 4.77%. The results indicate that although the water environment in the irrigation area in the lower reaches of the Kaidu River Basin is deteriorating, the situation can be improved by implementing appropriate agricultural production methods. The quantitative analysis results of NPS pollutants in the irrigation area under different scenarios provide a scientific basis for water environmental management in the Kaidu River Basin.

A channel measurement system for accurate modeling of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) band air-to-ground (A2G) wireless channel is presented. The measurement system consists of a ground station on a small cart and an air station installed on a custom-made octocopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Channel sounders at 26 GHz mmWave band with a bandwidth of 1 GHz are mounted on the air station and the ground station. In contrast to the on-the-shelf drones, the custom-made UAV offers the advantages of greater payload capacity and extended flight endurance. The measurement campaign was conducted in a university campus scenario, providing valuable measurement data for further analyses of the A2G channel. To analyze multipath effects in the A2G channel, simulation result of a ray tracing (RT) model is used to identify the principal propagation effects in the actual measurements. Subsequently, the path-loss exponent and the standard deviation of shadowing are calculated based on the measurement. Furthermore, sparsity of the A2G mmWave channel is evaluated through analyses of the Gini index and the Rician $K$ factor. By comparing with the measurement results in the different propagation scenarios presented in the related work, e.g., industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT), vehicular urban, and laboratory room, unique characteristics of the A2G mmWave channel are discussed.
