Deployment dynamics and experiments of a tendon-actuated flexible manipulator

The quantity of space debris on Earth orbit has escalated tremendously in recent years, presenting a significant hazard to human space operations. It is urgent to develop effective measures to capture and remove various space debris. For this purpose, this paper presents a tendon-actuated flexible deployable manipulator. The flexible manipulator consists of several deployable units connected by Cardan joints and actuated by tendons. Compared with the present technologies for capturing space debris such as rigid robotic arm or flying net, this flexible manipulator is deployable, reusable, lightweight and applicable to the capture of large space debris. In order to investigate its deployment dynamics, an accurate dynamic model of the flexible manipulator is established based on the natural coordinate formulation (NCF) and the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). Subsequently, numerical simulations are carried out to study the effects of system parameters and the base satellite on its deployment dynamics. Finally, ground experiments for both deployment and bending of the flexible manipulator are conducted to verify its effectiveness and feasibility.

Interaction and characteristics of furfural residues and polyvinyl chloride in fast co-pyrolysis

This study investigated the interaction between the furfural residue and polyvinyl chloride co-pyrolysis using an infrared heating *** analytical techniques including production distribution analysis,thermal behavior,pyrolysis kinetic,simulated distillation and gas chromatography-mass spectrography(GCMS),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were utilized to elucidate the pyrolysis characterization and reaction mechanism during the ***,the yield of co-pyrolysis oil increased from 35.12%at 5℃·s^(–1)to 37.70%at 10℃·s^(-1),but then decreased to 32.07%at 20℃·s^(-1).Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters suggested non-spontaneous and endothermic *** analysis revealed that aromatic hydrocarbons,especially mono-and bi-cyclic ones,are the predominant compounds in the oil due to the presence of H radicals in polyvinyl chloride,suggesting an enhancement in oil ***,the fixed chlorine content increased to 65.11%after co-pyrolysis due to the interaction between inorganic salts in furfural residues and chlorine from polyvinyl chloride.

Investigation of a GER damper using the Cut submode for vibration suppression in rotor systems with transmission shafts

Electrorheological（ER） and magnetorheological（MR） dampers, which are active damping devices, stand out for their exceptional performance in mitigating vibrations in mechanical systems and construction engineering. Their prowess lies in the inherent ability of ER/MR fluids to change their mechanical properties, particularly viscosity and shear stress, in response to the influence of electric or magnetic fields. In this study, a damper filled with Giant-ER（GER） fluid, a modified product of ER fluid,is employed in the rotor system for vibration suppression. This damper operates in a Cut submode derived from the conventional working modes. This mode results in an effective enhancement of the damping performance by integrating the advantages of these modes, thereby achieving a damping force density of 1.2 × 10～4 N/m2and a modulation coefficient of 15 within a multilayered cylindrical damper. Whereafter, the dynamics of the rotor system are modeled and analyzed based on the Jeffcott rotor model, which incorporates a parallelogram-structured motion decoupling mechanism equipped with the proposed Cut submode dampers that are introduced to reduce the vibration of the transmission shaft in the rotor system. Furthermore, to evaluate the damping effect, a vibration-damping performance validation testbed is constructed. The results are noteworthy, demonstrating that by leveraging the superior properties of the GER fluid, the Cut submode damper effectively suppresses the vibrations of the transmission shaft, particularly at the resonant frequencies, achieving an impressive 88.9% reduction when subjected to an electric field of 3 kV/mm compared to the action of 0 kV/mm. This performance highlights the exceptional effectiveness of the proposed Cut submode, underscoring its vast potential for various engineering applications.

Two-stage Optimal Scheduling of Community Integrated Energy System Considering Operation Sequences of Hydrogen Energy Storage Systems

The hydrogen energy storage system(HESS)integrated with renewable energy power generation exhibits low reliability and flexibility under source-load *** address the above issues,a two-stage optimal scheduling model considering the operation sequences of HESSs is proposed for commercial community integrated energy systems(CIESs)with power to hydrogen and heat(P2HH)*** aims to optimize the energy flow of HESS and improve the flexibility of hydrogen production and the reliability of energy supply for ***,the refined operation model of HESS is established,and its operation model is linearized according to the operation domain of HESS,which simplifies the difficulty in solving the optimization problem under the premise of maintaining high approximate ***,considering the flexible start-stop of alkaline electrolyzer(AEL)and the avoidance of multiple energy conversions,the operation sequences of HESS are ***,a two-stage optimal scheduling model combining day-ahead economic optimization and intra-day rolling optimization is established,and the model is simulated and verified using the source-load prediction data of typical days in each *** simulation results show that the two-stage optimal scheduling reduces the total load offset by about 14%while maintaining similar operating cost to the day-ahead economic optimal ***,by formulating the operation sequences of HESS,the operating cost of CIES is reduced by up to about 4.4%.

Salt cavern energy storage technology contributes to energy reserves and renewable energy *** study focuses on salt cavern gas storage in Jintan to assess the long-term stability of its surrounding rock under frequent *** fatigue test results indicate that stress holding significantly reduces fatigue life,with the magnitude of stress level outweighing the duration of holding time in determining peak *** a machine learning approach,the impact of various factors on fatigue life and peak strain was quantified,revealing that higher stress limits and stress holding adversely impact the fatigue index,whereas lower stress limits and rate exhibit a positive effect.A novel fatigue-creep composite damage constitutive model is constructed,which is able to consider stress magnitude,rate,and stress *** model,validated through multi-path tests,accurately captures the elasto-viscous behavior of salt rock during loading,unloading,and stress *** analysis further reveals the time-and stress-dependent behavior of model parameters,clarifying that strain changes stem not only from stress variations but are also influenced by alterations in elasto-viscous *** study provides a new method for the mechanical assessment of salt cavern gas storage surrounding rocks.

An Accurate and Interpretable Framework for Trustworthy Process Monitoring

Trustworthy process monitoring seeks to build an accurate and interpretable monitoring framework, which is critical for ensuring the safety of energy conversion plant (ECP) that operates under extreme working conditions, such as high pressure and temperature. Contemporary self-attentive models, however, fall short in this domain for two main reasons. First, they rely on stepwise correlations that fail to involve physically meaningful semantics in ECP logs, resulting in suboptimal accuracy and interpretability. Second, attention matrices are frequently cluttered with spurious correlations that obscure physically meaningful ones, further impeding effective interpretation. To overcome these issues, we propose AttentionMixer, a framework aimed at improving both accuracy and interpretability of the existing methods, and establish a trustworthy ECP monitoring framework. Specifically, to tackle the first issue, we employ a spatial adaptive message passing block to capture variatewise correlations. This block is coupled with a temporal adaptive message passing block through a mixing operator, yielding a multifaceted representation of ECP logs accounting for both the stepwise and variatewise correlations. Concurrently, to tackle the second issue, we employ a sparse message passing regularizer to filter out spurious correlations. We validate the efficacy of AttentionMixer using two real-world datasets from the radiation monitoring network for Chinese nuclear power plants. © 2020 IEEE.

A promising application of bulk metallic glasses in torque sensor

Torque sensors are essential components of robotic joints. In the past, structure optimization of force-sensing elements has been the common approach to improve the performance of the torque sensors. In this work, we demonstrate a torque sensor with bulk metallic glasses as a force-sensing element. Compared with the sensors made of stainless steel and aluminum alloy, the use of bulk metallic glass as a force-sensing element significantly improves sensor sensitivity, linearity, repeatability, hysteresis, and measuring range. Our work not only opens up a new avenue for the application of bulk metallic glasses, but also provides opportunities for enhancing the performance of force/torque sensors through materials optimization.
