DBDB: de-bimodal defocus blur in joint infrared-visible imaging

Despite the recent accomplishments in joint infrared-visible imaging, the bimodal defocus blur (BDB) phenomenon received scant attention. Our analysis reveals that BDB is predominantly attributable to disparities in optical parameters between cameras, resulting in two primary challenges: incomplete single-modal information and difficulty in cross-modal information interaction. With regard to the former, the infrared modality is the primary victim, as the deblurring networks’ bias toward high-frequency results in erroneous low-frequency reconstruction (e.g., over-sharpening). In the latter case, the relative nature of the blur effect can lead to ambiguity in determining which modality’s information should be prioritized for guidance, and conflicts may arise between the clear components of the blurred image and the blurry components of the clear image. To address these issues, we propose the first de-bimodal defocus blur (DBDB) method, which consists of a low-frequency semantic hold (LSH) module with a pre-trained infrared model and a cross-modal complementary feature induction (CCFI) module driven by a max-min blur entropy loss. LSH is designed to ensure that the low-frequency information captured by the infrared modality does not contain any misleading data, while CCFI facilitates the acquisition of accurate information by means of adaptive adjustment and the loss function. The experimental results of deblurring and downstream tasks on two synthetic datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method. © The Author(s) 2025.

Nitrosamines are a class of carcinogens which have been detected widely in food,water,some pharmaceuticals as well as *** objectives of this paper include reviewing the basic information on tobacco consumption and nitrosamine contents,and assessing the health risks of tobacco nitrosamines exposure to Chinese *** searched the publications in English from“Web of Science”and those in Chinese from the“China National Knowledge Infrastructure”in 2022 and collected 151 literatures with valid *** content of main nitrosamines in tobacco,including 4-(methylnitrosoamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone(NNK),N-nitrosonornicotine(NNN),N-nitrosoanatabine(NAT),N-nitrosoanabasine(NAB),total tobacco-specific nitrosamines(TSNA),and N-nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA)were *** information of daily tobacco consumption of smokers in 30 provinces of China was also ***,the intakes of NNN,NNK,NAT,NAB,TSNAs,and NDMA via tobacco smoke were estimated as 1534ng/day,591 ng/day,685 ng/day,81 ng/day,2543 ng/day,and 484 ng/day by adult smokers in30 provinces,*** cancer risk(CR)values for NNN and NNK inhalation intake were further calculated as 1.44×10^(-5)and 1.95×10^(-4).The CR value for NDMA intake via tobacco smoke(inhalation:1.66×10^(-4))indicates that NDMA is similarly dangerous in tobacco smoke when compared with the *** China,the CR values caused by average nitrosamines intake via various exposures and their order can be estimated as the following:smoke(3.75×10^(-4))>food(1.74×10^(-4))>drinking water(1.38×10^(-5)).Smokers in China averagely suffer 200%of extra cancer risk caused by nitrosamines in tobacco when compared with non-smokers.

Effects of aggregate size distribution and carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties of cemented gangue backfill samples under true triaxial compression

The mechanical behavior of cemented gangue backfill materials(CGBMs)is closely related to particle size distribution(PSD)of aggregates and properties of cementitious ***,the true triaxial compression tests,CT scanning,SEM,and EDS tests were conducted on cemented gangue backfill samples(CGBSs)with various carbon nanotube concentrations(P_(CNT))that satisfied fractal theory for the PSD of *** mechanical properties,energy dissipations,and failure mechanisms of the CGBSs under true triaxial compression were systematically *** results indicate that appropriate carbon nanotubes(CNTs)effectively enhance the mechanical properties and energy dissipations of CGBSs through micropore filling and microcrack bridging,and the optimal effect appears at P_(CNT)of 0.08wt%.Taking PSD fractal dimension(D)of 2.500 as an example,compared to that of CGBS without CNT,the peak strength(σ_(p)),axial peak strain(ε_(1,p)),elastic strain energy(Ue),and dissipated energy(U_(d))increased by 12.76%,29.60%,19.05%,and90.39%,***,excessive CNTs can reduce the mechanical properties of CGBSs due to CNT agglomeration,manifesting a decrease inρ_(p),ε_(1,p),and the volumetric strain increment(Δε_(v))when P_(CNT)increases from 0.08wt%to 0.12wt%.Moreover,the addition of CNTs improved the integrity of CGBS after macroscopic failure,and crack extension in CGBSs appeared in two modes:detour and pass through the ***σ_(p)and U_(d)firstly increase and then decrease with increasing D,and porosity shows the opposite ***ε_(1,p)andΔε_(v)are negatively correlated with D,and CGBS with D=2.150 has the maximum deformation parameters(ε_(1,p)=0.05079,Δε_(v)=0.01990)due to the frictional slip effect caused by coarse *** increasing D,the failure modes of CGBSs are sequentially manifested as oblique shear failure,"Y-shaped"shear failure,and conjugate shear failure.

A promising application of bulk metallic glasses in torque sensor

Torque sensors are essential components of robotic joints. In the past, structure optimization of force-sensing elements has been the common approach to improve the performance of the torque sensors. In this work, we demonstrate a torque sensor with bulk metallic glasses as a force-sensing element. Compared with the sensors made of stainless steel and aluminum alloy, the use of bulk metallic glass as a force-sensing element significantly improves sensor sensitivity, linearity, repeatability, hysteresis, and measuring range. Our work not only opens up a new avenue for the application of bulk metallic glasses, but also provides opportunities for enhancing the performance of force/torque sensors through materials optimization.

Energy dissipation mechanism and ballistic characteristic optimization in foam sandwich panels against spherical projectile impact

This study systematically examines the energy dissipation mechanisms and ballistic characteristics of foam sandwich panels(FSP)under high-velocity impact using the explicit non-linear finite element *** on the geometric topology of the FSP system,three FSP configurations with the same areal density are derived,namely multi-layer,gradient core and asymmetric face sheet,and three key structural parameters are identified:core thickness(t_(c)),face sheet thickness(t_(f))and overlap face/core number(n_(o)).The ballistic performance of the FSP system is comprehensively evaluated in terms of the ballistic limit velocity(BLV),deformation modes,energy dissipation mechanism,and specific penetration energy(SPE).The results show that the FSP system exhibits a significant configuration dependence,whose ballistic performance ranking is:asymmetric face sheet>gradient core>*** mass distribution of the top and bottom face sheets plays a critical role in the ballistic resistance of the FSP *** BLV and SPE increase with tf,while the raising tcor noleads to an increase in BLV but a decrease in ***,a face-core synchronous enhancement mechanism is discovered by the energy dissipation analysis,based on which the ballistic optimization procedure is also conducted and a design chart is *** study shed light on the anti-penetration mechanism of the FSP system and might provide a theoretical basis for its engineering application.

Lubrication failure accompanying with blackening phenomenon significantly reduces the long-running operational reliability of porous polymide(PPI)lubricated with poly-α-olefin(PAO)***,the effects of lubrication condition and counter-surface chemistry on the blackening failure of PAO impregnated PPI were studied through the comparison of the tribological tests against GCr15 steel ball and Al_(2)O_(3)ceramic ball with and without PAO oil *** products were found to be formed on the PAO impregnated PPI surface slid against steel ball or Al_(2)O_(3)ball added with iron nano-particles,but be absent under the conditions without iron or PAO *** analysis indicated that the iron-catalyzed splitting of PAO oil into small molecule alkanes and following the formation of black organic matter should be mainly responsible for the blackening *** dynamic(MD)simulations demonstrated that the iron facilitated the separation of hydrogen atom and the following broken of C–C bonds in PAO molecules,final resulting in the splitting of PAO oil.

An acoustic enclosure system with both interior sound reduction and air ventilation is designed and *** system consists of a rectangular enclosed space coupled with ventilated metamaterials and microperforated panels(MPPs).By modeling the ventilated metamaterial as an impedance boundary condition,an analytic model is developed to characterize the frequency response of interior acoustic fields and evaluate the sound reduction performance of MPP *** simulations are conducted to validate the accuracy of the theoretical *** is found that the resonance response of the enclosure system can be suppressed by proper arrangement of the *** with open area for airflow,the system still possesses good sound isolation originating from the low-transmission behavior of the ventilated *** proposed model system may find potential applications in noise control engineering.

Study on Dry Electrical Discharge Assisted Grinding of SiCp/Al Composite

SiC-reinforced aluminum matrix(SiCp/Al)composite is widely utilized in the aerospace,automotive,and electronics industries due to the combination of ceramic hardness and metal ***,the significant disparity in properties between SiC particles and the aluminum matrix results in severe tool wear and diminished surface quality during conventional *** study proposes an environmentally friendly and clean dry electrical discharge assisted grinding process as an efficient and low-damage machining method for SiCp/*** experimental platform was set up to study the impact of grinding and discharge process parameters on surface *** study compared the chip formation mechanism and surface quality between dry electrical discharge assisted grinding and conventional grinding,revealing relationships between surface roughness,grinding force,grinding temperature,and related *** results indicate that the proposed grinding method leads to smaller chip sizes,lower grinding forces and temperatures,and an average reduction of 19.2%in surface roughness compared to conventional *** axial,tangential,and normal grinding forces were reduced by roughly 10.5%,37.8%,and 23.0%,*** optimized process parameters were determined to be N=2500 r/min,vf=30 mm/min,a=10μm,E=15 V,f=5000 Hz,dc=80%,resulting in a surface roughness of 0.161μm.

Surrogate-assisted differential evolution using manifold learning-based sampling for highdimensional expensive constrained optimization problems

To address the challenges of high-dimensional constrained optimization problems with expensive simulation models,a Surrogate-Assisted Differential Evolution using Manifold Learning-based Sampling(SADE-MLS)is *** SADE-MLS,differential evolution operators are executed to generate numerous high-dimensional candidate *** alleviate the curse of dimensionality,a Manifold Learning-based Sampling(MLS)mechanism is developed to explore the high-dimensional design space *** MLS,the intrinsic dimensionality of the candidate points is determined by a maximum likelihood ***,the candidate points are mapped into a low-dimensional space using the dimensionality reduction technique,which can avoid significant information loss during dimensionality ***,Kriging surrogates are constructed in the low-dimensional space to predict the responses of the mapped candidate *** candidate points with high constrained expected improvement values are selected for global ***,the local search process assisted by radial basis function and differential evolution is performed to exploit the design space *** numerical benchmarks are tested to compare SADE-MLS with other ***,SADE-MLS is successfully applied to a solid rocket motor multidisciplinary optimization problem and a re-entry vehicle aerodynamic optimization problem,with the total impulse and lift to drag ratio being increased by 32.7%and 35.5%,*** optimization results demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed method in real engineering practices.

Lightweight thin-walled structures with lattice infill are widely desired in satellite for their high stiffness-to-weight ratio and superior buckling strength resulting fromthe sandwich *** structures can be fabricated bymetallic additive manufacturing technique,such as selective laser melting(SLM).However,the maximum dimensions of actual structures are usually in a sub-meter scale,which results in restrictions on their appliance in aerospace and other *** this work,a meter-scale thin-walled structure with lattice infill is designed for the fuel tank supporting component of the satellite by integrating a self-supporting lattice into the thickness optimization of the *** designed structure is fabricated by SLM of AlSi10Mg and cold metal transfer welding ***-static mechanical tests and vibration tests are both conducted to verify the mechanical strength of the designed large-scale lattice thin-walled *** experimental results indicate that themeter-scale thin-walled structure with lattice infill could meet the dimension and lightweight requirements of most spacecrafts.
