Thallium (Tl) is an extremely toxic metal. The release of Tl into the natural environment can pose a potential threat to organisms. In addition, there has been no report on how sudden Tl spill influences the structure and function of the microbial community. This study explored the response of river sediment microbiome to a Tl spill. Residual T1 in the sediment significantly decreased bacterial community diversity. The increase in the abundance of Bacteroidetes in all Tl- impacted sediments suggested the advantage of Bacteroidetes to resist Tl pressure. After T1 spill, increase in both metal resistance genes (MRGs) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) was observed in Tl-impacted sediments. The abundance of MRGs and ARGs was significantly correlated with sediment Tl concentration, implying the positive effect of Tl contamination on the proliferation of these resistance genes. Procrustes analysis suggested a significant congruence between profiles of MRGs and bacterial communities. Through LEfSe and co-occurrence network analysis, Trichococcus, Polaromonas, and Arenimonas were identified to be tolerant and resistant to Tl pollution. This study added new insights into the effect of Tl spill on microbial community and highlighted the role of heavy metal spill in the increase of both heavy metal and antibiotic resistance genes. © 2022, The Authors. In this paper, adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm, with lifting technology, is develop to solve the multi-rate optimal control problem for discrete-time linear systems. We make use of the lifting technology to convert the multi-rate sample control problem to the single-rate one in the uniform cycle. The propose a Q-Leaming based approach to learn the optimal regulator by a value iteration (VI) algorithm. First, a class of continuous-time (CT) linear system with multi-timescale is considered. Then, the convergence of a Q-Learning based algorithm is given. It is proven that the iterative cost function precisely converges to the optimal value, and the control input also converges to the optimal values. Finally, HIL system for grinding process is given to illustrate the effective performance of the proposed method.

Risk Assessment with Generic Energy Storage under Exogenous and Endogenous Uncertainty

Current risk assessment ignores the stochastic nature of energy storage availability itself and thus lead to potential risk during operation. This paper proposes the redefinition of generic energy storage (GES) that is allowed to offer probabilistic reserve. A data-driven unified model with exogenous and endogenous uncertainty (EXU & EDU) description is presented for four typical types of GES. Moreover, risk indices are proposed to assess the impact of overlooking (EXU & EDU) of GES. Comparative results between EXU & EDU are illustrated in distribution system with day-ahead chance-constrained optimization (CCO) and more severe risks are observed for the latter, which indicate that system operator (SO) should adopt novel strategies for EDU uncertainty. © 2022, CC BY.

Laruo3 Perovskites as Effective and Reusable Heterogeneous Catalysts to Activate Peroxymonosulfate for Carbamazepine Degradation

Sulfate radical-based technologies have been frequently applied to degrade pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs). Metal-based catalysts have shown great potential for activating persulfate (PS) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade PPCPs. In this study, a Ru-based perovskite (ARuO3, A= La, Ba, Ce, Sr) was synthesized by the sol-gel method and used as a catalyst to activate PMS for the degradation of carbamazepine (CBZ). Results show that the A-site cations had a significant influence on the catalytic performance of perovskite, and the degradation efficiency of CBZ in descending order was: La > Ba > Sr > Ce. LaRuO3 was selected as the optimal catalyst for CBZ degradation. LaRuO3 could efficiently activate PMS to degrade CBZ in a neutral environment. The reaction rate constant had a positive linear correlation with the concentration of PMS in a range between 0.1mM and 0.5 mM. ESR analysis and radical quenching experiments confirmed the existence of 1O2, •OH, and SO4•- in the LaRuO3/PMS system, and SO4•- played the most significant role in decomposing CBZ. The recycling experiment and XPS spectrogram suggested good stability and reusability of LaRuO3. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cold expansion can improve the fatigue life of bearing hole by introducing compressive residual stress. However, there is yet difficulty to measure the stress of hole wall because of the geometry and device limitations. In this study, a calculation method of residual stress based on the experimental-theoretical method is proposed by considering the circumferential symmetry of cold expansion. Stress and displacement are analyzed in the loading and unloading stages, and the measured springback is used in the unloading stage. The residual stress accuracy of the proposed method is significantly better than that of the classical elastic-plastic theory. Moreover, the effects of interference, expansion cycles and expansion speed on surface integrity and fatigue life are analyzed. It is found that interference is the most influencing parameter in coad expansion process, and there is a saturation effect of interference on improving the residual stress and fatigue life of bearing holes. © 2023, The Authors. Distributed flexible resources are developing in the trend of sea quantization. In this situation, the existing resource aggregation methods are facing bottlenecks, and it is difficult to fully exploit the regulation potential of massive flexible resources. In order to achieve efficient and flexible aggregation in the scenario of massive resources, this paper proposes a self-organizing aggregation method for flexible resources based on the social network and simulates the aggregation process under the proposed method based on the multi-agent simulation platform NetLogo. Firstly, this paper outlines the idea of the self-organizing aggregation method for flexible resources, which projects flexible resources from the physical space to the social network space, and realizes flexible aggregation through the interactive attraction between resources in the social network. Secondly, this paper establishes a simulation model for flexible resource self-organizing aggregation based on the NetLogo platform. The model defines four types of agents involved in the self-organizing aggregation process and provides detailed specifications for their attributes and interaction rules. Finally, simulation experiments are designed to verify the rationality of the self-organizing aggregation method and simulation model proposed in this paper. The simulation results show that, following the idea of self-organizing aggregation, massive flexible resources can autonomously and flexibly aggregate through the interaction attraction in the social network due to the incentive of task gain, demonstrating the effectiveness and rationality of the self-organizing aggregation method and the simulation model proposed in this paper.

Operando Monitoring of Internal Strain at Solid-state Lithium-Metal Batteries with Fiber Optical Sensor

Embedded fiber optic sensors provide a crucial technique for understanding the fundamental chemical and physical state of a cell during operation, thereby advancing the reliability, lifetime, and safety of cells. However, the interfacial compatibility between the implanted sensor and electrode materials has not received sufficient attention. This study demonstrates the incorporation of a fiber Bragg grating sensor into a solid-state lithium-metal cell to explore electrochemical property changes by placing the sensor at different interfaces. Our findings reveal that the presence of the sensor accelerates the capacity fade compared to that of the pristine cell. Furthermore, the strain signals collected from the optical sensor indicate loose contact between the sensor and the electrode materials. To address this issue, we propose a surface coating strategy for the sensor to enhance interfacial compatibility. As a proof of concept, we focused on multi-walled carbon nanotubes and polydopamine. Our results demonstrate that the modified sensor can be firmly attached to the electrode surface without interfering with its operation. Notably, the capacity retention of the cell increased by approximately 30% after 60 cycles when the PDA-coated sensor was embedded inside the cell. This technique offers a scalable solution for long-time and in situ monitoring of battery state, thereby improving the reliability and safety of cells. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Exergy Analysis of Electric Vehicle Heat Pump Air Conditioning System with Battery Thermal Management System

The exergy analysis of an electric vehicle heat pump air conditioning system(HPACS) with battery thermal management system was carried out by studying the exergy loss of each component. The results indicate that the compressor is the main source of system exergy loss in all operation conditions. The exergy loss distribution of HPACS is almost the same when the battery thermal management system integrated into the HPACS in cabin and battery mixed cooling mode and the system exergy loss was linearly related to the compressor speed in cooling modes. The performance of the HPACS is better than that of the positive temperature coefficient(PTC) heater in cabin heating mode. The degree of exergy efficiency improvement of the alternative mode was discussed at all operation conditions in cabin heating mode. The results indicate that the optimization effect using the electric vehicle HPACS to replace the PTC heater is obvious at lower compressor speed, surrounding temperature and internal condenser air flow rate.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is expected to improve the energy and spectral efficiency of communication systems. Probability hypothesis density (PHD) simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) without explicit data association is one of the mainstream algorithms for implementing sensing function in ISAC. However, most existing research focused on multi-sensor and multi-user sensing fusion, while few studies involve multi base station (BS) fusion schemes. In this study, we introduce the virtual reference point rather than common used virtual anchor to model reflecting surface to form a consistent description of the surrounding environment among different BSs. Then, the estimation results of BSs are sequentially utilized as prior information, which is compared with arithmetic average (AA) and generalized covariance intersection (GCI) fusion algorithms. To improve the poor performance of existing schemes when filed of view (FoV) of different BSs is partial overlapped, we propose the concept of establishing global cloud map. The AA fusion algorithm is integrated into cloud fusion to improve the map estimation performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance of sequential fusion is superior to AA and GCI schemes when FoVs of different BSs are fully overlapped. Besides, the cloud map fusion scheme can obtain global maps even if some features are no longer in FoV, as well as improve the accuracy and stability of local maps estimation for each BS.
