Fluidized bed combustion of high water content alcohol extracted herb residue and the impacts of blending wasted activated coke

Combustion of herb residues(HRs)for heat recovery is a good way for their utilization,but there exists such a problem as high concentration NOx emission in flue *** alcohol extracted herb residue(AEHR),one special type of HRs,was chosen as the object and was subjected to immediate combustion in a fluidized bed reactor to investigate the characteristics of its resulting NOx *** results showed that,most of the NOx in the flue gas was produced from the char nitrogen(C-N);as the fuel water content increased,the NOx emission concentration exhibited a trend of first decreasing and then increasing;and a properly low combustion temperature inhibited the NOx emission upon the premise of ensuring full *** staging combustion was adopted to effectively control NOx:the NOx emission concentration in the flue gas was reduced to 296 mg⋅m􀀀3 and the NOx emission reduction rate reached 46.51%compared to conventional ***-combustion by blending wasted activated coke(WAC)into the AEHR helped both stabilize the combustion state and reduce further the NOx *** the blending ratio of WAC fell within a proper range of 20-30%,the NOx emission concentration in the flue gas was as low as 231.4 mg⋅m􀀀*** addition to the dilution effect of the combustion flue gas of the blended WAC,the local reducing atmosphere caused by its incomplete combustion as well as its strong absorbability and catalytical effect was accountable for the further decrease of the NOx emission concentration.

Molecular dynamics simulations of ovalbumin adsorption at squalene/water interface

The adsorption of protein molecules to oil/water(O/W)interface is of critical importance for the product design in a wide range of technologies and industries such as biotechnology,food industry and pharmaceutical *** this work,with ovalbumin(OVA)as the model protein,the adsorption conformations at the O/W interface and the adsorption stability have been systematically studied via multiple simulation methods,including all-atom molecular dynamic(AAMD)simulations,coarse-grained molecular dynamic(CGMD)simulations and enhanced sampling *** computational results of AAMD and CGMD show that the hydrophobic tail of OVA tends to be folded under long time relaxation in aqueous phase,and multiple adsorption conformations can exist at the interface due to heterogeneous interactions raising from oil and water *** further study the adsorption sites of the protein,the adsorption kinetics of OVA at the O/W interface is simulated using metadynamics method combined with CGMD simulations,and the result suggests the existence of multiple adsorption conformations of OVA at interface with the head-on conformation as the most stable *** all,this work focuses on the adsorption behaviors of OVA at squalene/water interface,and provides a theoretical basis for further functionalization of the proteins in emulsion-based products and engineering.

A classical density functional approach to depletion interaction of Lennard-Jones binary mixtures

In this article,we apply classical density functional theory to investigate the characteristics of depletion interaction in Lennard-Jones(LJ)binary fiuid ***,to confirm the validity of our adopted density functional formalism,we calculate the radial distribution functions using a theoretical approach and compare them with results obtained by molecular dynamics ***,this approach is applied to two colloids immersed in LJ solvent *** investigate the variation of depletion interaction with respect to the distance of two colloids in LJ binary *** find that depletion interaction may be attractive or repulsive,mostly depending on the bulk density of the solvent and the temperature of the binary *** high bulk densities,the repulsive barrier of depletion force is remarkable when the total excluded volume of colloids touches each other and reaches a *** height of the repulsive barrier is related to the parameters of the LJ potential and bulk ***,the depletion force may exhibit attractive wells if the bulk density of the solvent is *** attractive well tends to appear when the surface-surface distance of colloids is half of the size of the polymer and deepens with temperature lowering in a fixed bulk *** contrast with the hard-sphere system,no oscillation of depletion potential around zero is observed.

An ionic liquid(IL)catalyzed solvent-free process was developed for the direct synthesis of chalcone and its derivatives by using substituted acetophenones and benzaldehydes via aldol reaction under mild conditions.A series of acidic and basic ILs were selected and *** influences of cations and reaction conditions on product yield and selectivity were systematically ***[Bmim]OH was identified as the optimal IL,with the highest yield and selectivity reaching up to 96.7% and 100%,respectively.A reaction mechanism-based kinetic model was established and regressed with experimental data,revealing the β-Hydroxylketone dehydrolysis with activation barrier of 37.8 kJ·mol^(-1) was observed as the ratecontrolling step.

Concentration fluctuation caused by reaction-diffusion coupling near catalytic active sites

The coupling of reaction and diffusion between neighboring active sites in the catalyst pore leads to the spatiotemporal fluctuation in component concentration,which is very importa nt to catalyst performance and hence its optimal *** dynamics simulation with hard-sphere and pseudo-particle modeling has previously revealed the non-stochastic concentration fluctuation of the reactant/product near isolated active site due to such coupling,using a simple model reaction of A→B in 2D *** topic is further developed in this work by studying the concentration fluctuation due to such coupling between neighboring active sites in 3D *** 3D pore models containing an isolated active site and two adjacent active sites were constructed,*** the isolated site,the concentration fluctuation intensifies for larger pores,but the product yield decreases,and for a given pore size,the product yield reaches a peak at a certain reactant *** two neighboring sites,their distance(d)is found to have little effect on the reaction,but significant to the *** the same reaction competing at both sites,larger d leads to more efficient diffusion and better overall ***,for sequential reactions at the two sites,higher overall performance presents at a smaller *** results should be helpful to the catalyst design and reaction control in the relevant processes.
