A technique that expands the OH-LIF thermometry range is developed. The PLIF of OH from dissociation of water in gas phase is used for temperature measurement both in flame and room air. The thermometry results from photo-fragmentation laser induced fluorescence(PF-PLIF) at time delay from 200ns to 1ms after dissociation agree well with results from PLIF of OH from burning which are calibrated by CARS thermometry. And the results in room air agree with environment temperature at time delay from 50ns to 0.2ms. These two results validate the PF-PLIF thermometry method both in flame and room temperature, which allowing thermometry at low temperature or non-reaction region. At last the PF-PLIF was applied in a jet flow, and the temperature results from PF-PLIF, PLIF and CARS at different height of jet were compared. © 2022 SPIE.

A Numerical Study on Convective Condensation of Flue Gas in Tubular Heat Exchangers

Accurate calculation of heat transfer process in condensing heat exchanger plays a crucial role in the waste heat recovery. In this study, the convective-condensation heat transfer process in a condensing heat exchanger with five small heat exchangers is analyzed through utilizing a new numerical simulation model. The method that loads the latent heat of vaporization as heat generation rate is adopted. Under the two working conditions in this study, the deviations of outlet temperature between numerical and experimental results are 1.3 and 2.2 K, respectively, while the deviations of total condensate water flow are 8.5% and 5.5%, respectively. Under the drier working condition, the average temperature reduction per row of tubes in the first small heat exchanger where is no condensation is significantly higher than that in the third small heat exchanger where vapor starts to condense, 5.8 and 2.6 K, separately. It indicates that the release of latent heat of vaporization slows down the cooling rate of the flue gas. In the small heat exchanger where vapor starts to condense, the amount of condensate water on the wall of each row of tubes increases first and then decreases slowly along the flow direction of flue gas. © 2023, The Authors. Novel cost-effective fuel cells have become more attractive due to the demands for rare and expensive platinum-group metal(PGM)catalysts for mitigating the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).The high-cost PGM catalyst in fuel cells can be replaced by earth-abundant transition-metalbased catalysts,that is,an Fe-N-C catalyst,which is considered one of the most promising ***,the performance of the Fe-N-C catalyst is hindered by the low catalytic activity and poor stability,which is caused by insufficient active sites and the lack of optimization of the triple-phase interface for mass ***,a novel Fe–N–C catalyst consisting of mono-dispersed hierarchically mesoporous carbon sphere cores and single Fe atom-dispersed functional shells are *** synergistic effect between highly dispersed Fe-active sites and well-organized porous structures yields the combination of high ORR activity and high mass transfer *** half-wave potential of the catalyst in 0.1M H_(2)SO_(4) is 0.82 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode,and the peak power density is 812 mW·cm^(−2) in H_(2)–O_(2) fuel ***,it shows superior methanol tolerance,which is almost immune to methanol poisoning and generates up to 162 mW·cm^(−2) power density in direct methanol fuel cells.

The role of diffusion in the nucleation of calcium carbonate

Nucleation widely exists in nature,from cloud formation to haze *** classical nucleation theory(CNT)was created to describe the nucleation process,but it fails to predict many experimental phenomena due to the short consideration of nanoscale phenomena and macroscale *** the attachment and detachment of monomers are considered in the developed model of nucleation,the diffusion of chemicals in the bulk is not valued as supersaturation in the nucleation process so *** we employ simulation and experimental approaches to investigate how the diffusion of ions affects the nucleation of calcium *** diffusion of ions is regulated by the viscosity of solvents and the sonication imposed on the *** is found that the nucleation rates increased exponentially with the diffusion coefficient of ions,which is beyond the prediction of *** abnormal finding might be ascribed to the involvement of cluster aggregation in the nucleation of calcium *** study highlights the significance of chemical diffusion in the nucleation process,which may help to revise the nucleation theory and develop solutions for the rational synthesis of materials,as well as for the control of air pollution.

Ionic liquid(IL)/polyimide(PI)composite membranes demonstrate promise for use in CO_(2)separation ***,few studies have focused on the microscopic mechanism of CO_(2)in these composite systems,which is important information for designing new *** this work,a series of systems of CO_(2)in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide composited with 4,4-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride(6FDA)-based PI,6FDA-2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylene-diamine,at different IL concentrations were investigated by all-atom molecular dynamics *** formation of IL regions in PI was found,and the IL regions gradually became continuous channels with increasing IL *** analysis of the radial distribution functions and hydrogen bond numbers demonstrated that PI had a stronger interaction with cations than ***,the hydrogen bonds among PI chains were destroyed by the addition of IL,which was favorable for transporting CO_(2).Furthermore,the self-diffusion coefficient and free energy barrier suggested that the diffusion coefficient of CO_(2)decreased with increasing IL concentrations up to 35 wt-%due to the decrease of the fractional free volume of the composite ***,the CO_(2)selfdiffusion coefficients increased when the IL contents were higher than 35 wt-%,which was attributed to the formation of continuous IL domain that benefitted the transportation of CO_(2).

Experimental Study on Supercritical Water Flooding in High Water Cut Heavy Oil Reservoirs

Elevated water cut obstructs recovery of heavy oil in later stage of heavy oil reservoir exploitation. This paper simulates such scenarios using one-dimensional sandstone cores filled with saturated oil utilizing hot water flooding. Subsequently, we conducted indoor flooding tests for supercritical water flooding, high-pressure hot water flooding, and superheated steam flooding. Results reveal that supercritical water flooding yields the highest recovery rate (96.27%) and superior in-situ upgrading compared to hot water flooding and superheated steam flooding. The mechanism for enhancing oil recovery via 400◦C, 25 MPa supercritical water flooding in a high water cut heavy oil reservoir environment lies in the occurrence of thermal fluid breakthrough phenomenon, miscible flooding, and hydrothermal pyrolysis of heavy oil under supercritical water conditions. © 2025 Science Press. Novel Catalyst Coatings on Gas Diffusion Layers for Improved Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis: A Microscopic Analysis of D-Orbital Electron Interactions in Co0.75Ru0.21Ir0.04O0.9

Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) has emerged as a reliable water splitting technology in recent years. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode, is the rate-determining step in water electrolysis, and therefore, the kinetic and mass transfer performance of the oxygen evolution reaction should be further studied. Efficient electron and water transfer between the catalyst layer (CL) and gas diffusion layer (GDL) is crucial for optimizing PEMWE performance. In this work, Ru-core modified materials were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method and then spray-coated onto the surface of the gas diffusion layer. Physical and electrochemical characterization showed that 0.10 mg cm-2 was the optimal dosage of the coating. The single cell with this optimal coating exhibited a well-promoted and outstanding performance that a cell voltage of 1.71 V@1 A cm-2 and an overpotential of 222 mV@10 mA cm-2. This enhancement was primarily attributed to the improved ohmic and mass transfer properties. Specifically, the promotion of kinetic and mass transfer performance was due to the attraction of the empty d-orbitals of Ru, Co, and Ir, which enhanced electron transmission between the catalyst layer (CL) and gas diffusion layer. Physical analysis revealed that the reductive gaseous products caused Co (Ⅲ) to transform to Co (Ⅱ) and the formation of Co3O4 and RuO2 was well-protected by the Co (II)-rich Co3O4 phase due to its reductivity nature. Additionally, the effusion of gaseous products from the solid phase accelerated pore formation, thereby increasing the specific surface area of the material. © 2024, The Authors. Nowadays, it is necessary to explore efficient antibacterial materials to complement or substitute the conventional antibiotic, to cope with the ever-growing bacterial contamination. Here, a series of Cu-doped ZIF-8 materials are prepared and adopted for disinfection against typical bacteria E. coli and S. aureus in dark. The results show that 5-7 log efficiency can be achieved at a dosage of 15-30 mg mL-1 of 1.35 atomic % Cu doped ZIF-8, and this concentration is also safe as verified by cytotoxicity test. Mechanism investigation shows that Cu(II) is reduced to Cu(I), which would contribute to the effective electron transfer for the reactive oxygen species generation. And these reactive oxygen species would cause oxidative stress and membrane damage on bacteria cells. All these results show the promise of Cu-doped ZIF-8 in the antibacterial applications especially in the environments without any energy input. © 2024 18th Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2024 - Conference Program and Proceedings. Experimental Investigation of the Photovoltaic Thermal (Pvt) Integrated with Ground Heat Exchanger (Ghe) Using Volcanic Tuff Stones

This study investigates the combination of photovoltaic thermal (PVT) and ground heat exchanger (GHE) using volcanic tuff stones as a heat storage material if the combination of PVT and GHE technologies provides the potential for energy generation increased efficiency and performance. Volcanic tuff stones known for their high thermal conductivity and heat retention, act as an effective means of heat exchange in the system. The objective of the study is to investigate the electrical, thermal performance and efficiency of this integrated system. Where the ground heat exchanger comprises a single hole filled with volcanic tuff stones arranged strategically, featuring gaps between them to facilitate heat exchange. The hole dimensions are specified as 2.5 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 3 meters in depth. A fan is situated at the exit square duct (400*400 mm) to extract ambient air. Experimental data was collected from the PVT-GHE system to evaluate its efficiency in harnessing solar energy and providing space heating or other heating applications and compared it with a traditional PVT system. The results show that integrating GHE into PVT systems dramatically decreases solar cell temperature and improves electrical efficiency. A PVT system with GHE had the maximum electrical efficiency at 17.99%, compared to 17.52% in a PVT system without GHE. In addition, the greatest possible electrical power in a PVT system with GHE was 65 W, but in a PVT system without GHE, it was 61W. Also, the outlet air temperature from GHE was consistently higher than the ambient temperature throughout the days of the experiment, with an average difference of about 10 ºC. © 2024, The Authors.
