The high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTR) is well known for its prominent inherent safety, high efficiency and low carbon environmental protection, which has been identified as one of the candidates for the Generation IV nuclear energy system technology. Accurate and reliable thermal hydraulic analysis is of great significance to the system design and safe operation of HTR. Based on the coolant flow and heat transfer process in the core of HTR, this study establishes a three-dimensional model by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software firstly, and the flow and heat transfer process of helium coolant is simulate in the core. The temperature distribution of HTR is calculated at steady state, and the calculation results were compared with the related published results for validation and verification. After that, the models are employed to study the thermal hydraulic characteristics under the loss of coolant accident of HTR. The results show that as the coolant passes through the core from top to bottom, helium is continuously heated, and the temperature increases from top to bottom. The temperature reached a maximum at the core exit position of 1032.75 K. It stated that the model can be employed to simulate the thermal hydraulic analysis for HTR. The calculation results of the loss-of-coolant, indicates t as the flow rate decreases, the coolant temperature rises gradually. When the coolant is completely lost, the temperature reaches a maximum of 1723.19 K, and it is still lower than the design limit of 1893.15 K. © 2019 American Nuclear Society. All rights reserved.

A visualized experimental system is designed and constructed to investigate the bubble dynamic in a flowing liquid layer. Motivated by reducing uncertainties and digging a deep understand on the formation mechanism of boiling bubbles, the bubbles are formed by injecting air through a submerged orifice in our present work, where the influence of thermal physics, nucleation site density and dry spot are stripped. The water flow rate and the air flow rate are in the range of 72-324 ml/min and 0.8-2.0 ml/min, respectively. The bubble formation process in the smooth channel and the rib channel are investigated. The results state that increasing the liquid flow rates lead to the increasing bubble detachment frequency and the decreasing bubble detachment volume. Besides, the larger the liquid flow rate is, the closer the bubble center of mass is to the wall. The rib has a significant influence on the bubble formation process. In the rib channel, it is more difficult for bubbles to detach from the orifice compared that in a smooth channel. Besides, the bubble detachment volume in a rib channel is larger than it in a smooth channel. © 2020 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). All rights reserved.

Lead or lead-alloy cooled fast reactors (LFRs) have been proved to be the most promising Generation IV reactors with high performance in neutronics, thermal hydraulics and security features. Small forced circulation modular LFRs is one of the potential candidates for LFRs development which has attracted particular attention in recent years. When lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) is used as coolant, the primary LBE pump is a key conveying equipment, and therefore the hydraulic performance of LBE pump is great important to the safety of LFR. Motivated by improving the hydraulics performance of LBE pump, this paper presents a theoretical and computational analysis on an axial flow pump. The guide blades are set at the outlet of the impeller to eliminate the rotational motion of the liquid LBE and transform the kinetic energy of the rotational motion into pressure energy. The rotation angle of the blade is optimized based on the theoretical analysis to reduce the vortex and raise efficiency. As well, the outlet speed and pressure parameters of each part in the pump are calculated. After that, a three-dimensional model of the modified pump is established by using CFD software and the flow characteristics of LBE in the pump are simulated. Albeit the high velocity liquid LBE alloy still exists in the side of pump shroud, some erosion-related issues remain to be fully addressed. The results of the study show that the axial LBE pump could be used as a viable solution for the design of the new generation of small module reactor primary pump from a thermo-fluid dynamic point of view. © 2018-2019 by JSME

In spray cooling system, the liquid coolant is broken into numerous fine droplets through a spray nozzle to cool the target. The liquid nitrogen spray could obtain low cooling temperature and excellent heat transfer performance with phase change in a large temperature difference. It can be widely used in low temperature tunnel cooling, ground simulation environment and laser therapy. The open loop liquid nitrogen spray platform is built to investigate the nitrogen spray characteristics. The solid cone vortex nozzle WL32 (3.18 mm diameter) and fine fog nozzle P66 (1.68 mm diameter) are used in the experiment. The spray pressure differences (0.25MPa to 0.8MPa) are sourced by the high pressure room temperature gas nitrogen and controlled through a manual valve. In the experiment, the spray field is recorded by a high speed camera (HG-100K from Redlake Co.) and the diameter of the spray droplet from WL32 is analyzed through the Malvern Spraytec laser particle size analyzer. The pressure difference between nozzle inlet and outlet has different influence on the spray angle of WL32 and P66. The quantity of spray droplets of WL32 increases with the increasing pressure, which leads to the improvement of the atomizing effect and the decline of Sauter Mean Diameter.

Numerical simulation of single bubble pool boiling process including transient thermal response of solid wall is performed using the ghost fluid method and the level set method for the sharp interface representation. The results show that non-physical initial condition in the numerical simulation deeply affects the process of bubble growth, and then multi-cycle simulation is necessary to eliminate its influence. It is shown by the present results that two nucleate criteria, i.e. constant waiting time and constant nucleate superheat, for determining the appearance time for the subsequent bubble lead to the same quasi-steady process of bubble growth if they are matched with each other. A periodically expanding and receding thermal "hollow" can be observed inside solid wall underneath the growing bubble. The recovery of the temperature on the nucleate site and the thermal boundary layer near the heating surface is influenced by transient heat conduction inside solid wall, which can affect evidently bubble thermal dynamics and heat transfer.

A closed loop spray cooling system with R134 - A as spray medium was used to investigate the performance of spray cooling characteristic. The heat transfer parameters such as heat flux, heat transfer coefficient and target surface temperature were studied under different volumetric flow rate and spray chamber pressure. The single-phase heat transfer region and the phase-change heat transfer region were analyzed at different heat fluxes. The results show that the heat flux, critical heat flux (CHF) and heat transfer coefficient directly relate with volumetric flow rate. The higher flow rate and spray chamber pressure could achieve higher CHF with better heat transfer performance. And the different relationship between heat transfer coefficient and surface temperature was obtained at different spray cooling period.

A new tandem double-capillary tube refrigeration system for refrigerator-freezers is proposed. A capillary tube was added between the two evaporators in the fresh and frozen food storage chests to raise the evaporation temperature of the refrigerating chamber, and reduce the heat exchange temperature difference and the available energy loss. Peng-Robinson (P-R) equation of state was adopted to calculate the thermodynamic properties of the refrigerants, and the available energy analysis of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle was programmed to calculate the thermodynamic performances of the new and the conventional refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer. The calculation results show that the available energy efficiency of the conventional refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer is 21.20% and 20.57%, respectively when the refrigerant is R12 and R134a, while that of the double-capillary tube refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer is 23.97% and 23.44%, respectively. By comparison, the available energy efficiency of the new refrigeration system increases by 13.07% and 13.95%, respectively. © 2008 Higher Education Press and Springer-Verlag.

Here,a metal-organic framework(MOF)-templated strategy was applied to synthesize the CoCeO_(x) bimetallic catalysts by calcining Co partially-substituted *** is indicated that the substituted Co limited Ce cations in Ce-UiO-66 framework,which affects its growth and structure crystallinity to some *** pyrolysis treatment,the derived bimetallic oxide(CoCeO_(x)-M)can basically keep the octahedral structure and the surface area is much higher than the bulk metal composite oxide(CoCeO_(x)-B)prepared by traditional *** reveal that CoCeO_(x)-M performs the best chlorobenzene degradation capacity,superior stability and vapor tolerance compared with those of CeO_(2)-M(derived from Ce-UiO-66)and CoCeO_(x)-*** the same time,it is favorable to inhibit the formation of CO during the oxidation *** superior catalytic performance of CoCeO_(x)-M is attributed to a good dispersion of metal cations,high surface area and active oxygen concentration,and good redox ***,the formation of organic byproducts especially chlorinated organics can be obviously prohibited over CoCeO_(x)-M compared with that of CeO_(2)-*** study reveals that chlorobenzene dissociates on the surface of CoCeO_(x)-M to form carboxylates such as acetate species,maleate and phenolate before finally oxidized into CO_(2),H_(2)O,and *** present work poses new insights into the fabrication of efficient catalysts for industrial CVOC purification.

Performance Analysis of Cooling Wall of Supercritical CO_(2) Coal-Fired Plants

Using supercritical CO_(2)(S-CO_(2)) instead of water steam as heat transfer fluid for coal-fired power plants is another way to further improve the power generation efficiency. In this paper, a multi-field coupling model that integrates fluid flow, heat transfer and thermal stress is proposed to solve the complex problem. The effects of the key operating parameters on the performances of the cooling wall are numerically investigated. More details of the characteristics of fluid dynamics, thermal stress, pressure drop, coupled heat transfer and the whole flow and temperature fields in the S-CO_(2) cooling wall are revealed and discussed. A comparison study is made between the cooling wall tube and waterwall tube. Both temperature and thermal deformations of cooling wall tube are much higher than that of water. Numerical simulation results indicate that inclination angle has little effects on the temperature distribution, while increase of pressure drop is obvious as the inclination angle increases. Increasing tube diameter can effectively reduce both the pressure drop and the temperature of the cooling wall tube. As a result, a new insight is introduced for the design of S-CO_(2) power cycle.

Ultrafine polycrystalline titania nanofibers for superior sodium storage

Sodium ion batteries have a huge potential for large-scale energy storage for the low cost and abundance of sodium resources. In this work, a novel structure of ultrafine polycrystalline TiO2 nanofibers is prepared on nickel foam/carbon cloth by a simple vapor deposition method. The as-prepared TiO2 nanofibers show excellent performance when used as anodes for sodium-ion batteries. Specifically, the TiO2 nanofibers@nickel foam electrode delivers a high reversible capacity of 263.2 m Ahg^-1 at 0.2 C and maintains a considerable capacity of 144.2 m Ahg^-1 at 10 C. The TiO2 nanofibers@carbon cloth electrode also shows excellent high-rate capability, sustaining a capacity of 148 m Ahg^-1 after 20 0 0 cycles at 10 C. It is believed that the novel nanofibrous structure increases the contact area with the electrolyte and greatly shortens the sodium ion diffusion distance, and meanwhile, the polycrystalline nature of nanofibers exposes more intercalation sites for sodium storage. Furthermore, the density functional theory calculations exhibit strong ionic interactions between the exposed TiO2(101) facets and sodium ions, leading to a preferable sodiation/desodiation process. The unique structural features endow the TiO2 nanofibers electrodes great advantages in rapid sodium storage with an outstanding high-rate capability.
