Statistical analysis on the signals monitoring multiphase flow patterns in pipeline-riser system

The signals monitoring petroleum transmission pipeline in offshore oil industry usually contain abundant information about the multiphase flow on flow assurance which includes the avoidance of most undesirable flow pattern. Therefore, extracting reliable features form these signals to analyze is an alternative way to examine the potential risks to oil platform. This paper is focused on characterizing multiphase flow patterns in pipeline-riser system that is often appeared in offshore oil industry and finding an objective criterion to describe the transition of flow patterns. Statistical analysis on pressure signal at the riser top is proposed, instead of normal prediction method based on inlet and outlet flow conditions which could not be easily determined during most situations. Besides, machine learning method (least square supported vector machine) is also performed to classify automatically the different flow patterns. The experiment results from a small-scale loop show that the proposed method is effective for analyzing the multiphase flow pattern.

An experimental investigation on oil-gas two-phase flow through a straight horizontal plexiglas pipe within 40mm inner diameter was conducted. The superficial velocity ranges of oil and air were 0.05-0.612m/s and 0.024-50.64m/s, respectively. The atmospheric temperature condition was maintained throughout the *** frictional pressure drop multiplier of two-phase flow was expressed using the Lockhart-Martinelli parameter correlation in accordance with typical flow pattern, but the modification factor C in the correlations was defined afresh according to flow conditions. New predict correlations for pressure gradient in accordance with typical flow patterns were proposed and the mechanisms of pressure drop production were analyzed for each flow patterns. The solar tower thermal power technology is a method to achieve the large-scale utilization of solar energy. A user defined TYPE of the heat receiver for the solar tower thermal power plant (STTPP) is established in the TRNSYS program with Fortran codes. Full-year simulation of the STTPP is investigated based on different input parameters, weather conditions and plant control strategies by taking Beijing as a case study. Through this case, the influences of the receiver diameter, flow form and inlet/outlet temperature on the thermal efficiency, total pump power, power efficiency and 'solar-thermal-electricity' transfer efficiency are studied. Simulation results show that the thermal efficiency of receiver rises with the decrease of pipe diameter. The lower the inlet temperature is;the lower the annual pump power consumption is, and the higher the power efficiency would be. An instantaneous increase of the receiver outlet temperature would reduce the power efficiency. The plant control strategies suggest that the "south-in-north-out" arrangement of the heat receiver working fluid holds the highest power efficiency but lowest annual pump power consumption. The annual power generation increases effectively by introducing the hot and cold molten salt storage tanks. The annual power efficiency increases with the power plant capacity.

In order to improve the flexibility and adaptability of micro nuclear power systems, air is considered as an optional working fluid of nuclear Brayton cycle. It has ability to avoid shortage of working fluid under extreme conditions, and ensure the system operating with tight supply. Compared with the traditional open cycles, the closed cycle has advantages of higher cycle efficiency, smaller equipment size and higher power density. Few of closed air power cycle in nuclear power system has been studied by now. In this paper, cycle parameters were analyzed and designed, and optimal cycle performance was compared between cycle constructions. Four closed air Brayton cycles are proposed and modeled in EBSILON 15.0, including simple regenerative cycle (SRC), intercooling regenerative cycle (IRC), reheat regenerative cycle (RRC) and intercooling-reheat regenerative cycle (IRRC). Thermodynamic analysis of the key parameters is conducted, including pressure ratio, turbine inlet temperature, compressor inlet temperature and pressure. In addition, the genetic algorithm (GA) is applied for multi-parameters optimization for the maximal cycle efficiency. Result shows that with the increase of pressure ratio, the efficiency of SRC increases firstly and then decreases. With the increase of turbine inlet temperature, the pressure ratio corresponding to the maximal cycle efficiency increases gradually. Specific work gradually increases with pressure ratio. In higher turbine inlet temperature, the rising velocity of specific work is faster. Cycle efficiency increases with compressor inlet pressure, and this trend tend to be slower in high pressure region. With the increasing of compressor inlet pressure, optimal pressure ratio decreases and finally approaches to 2.0. The cycle minimal cycle pressure was selected as 6 MPa. The flow characteristics of the sphere under uniform flow in a large space have been extensively studied, but the influence of the wall on the flow characteristics of the sphere is not clear. The wake of the particle is focused. Results show that there are three regimes of the sphere wake, which are steady wake, unsteady symmetric wake and unsteady asymmetric wake. If Re400, the vortex shedding is not symmetric and becomes chaotic as Reynolds number increases. © All Right Reserved.

In this study, an implicit algorithm and different solvers are applied to the Moving Particle Semi-Implicit (MPS) method for temperature calculation. The original MPS method uses an explicit method for temperature calculation and is limited by time increment due to diffusion number. In this paper, the heat conduction of plates with Dirichlet boundary condition and Neumann boundary condition is studied. The accuracy of explicit and implicit calculation of plate heat transfer cases are compared. In addition, different solvers are compared. Consequently, it is shown that the error of the implicit algorithm is not much different from the original one. And CG is still the better solver, CGS is also a superior solver. The implicit algorithm increases the size of a single time step by a maximum of 50 times (original diffusion number is 0.2), while the calculation time of a single time step does not increase Substantially, so it has a significant effect on the acceleration of calculation. © 2022 WCCM-APCOM 2022 - 15th World Congress on Computational Mechanics and 8th Asian Pacific Congress on Computational Mechanics: Pursuing the Infinite Potential of Computational Mechanics. The Passive Residual Heat Removal System (PRHRS) of Fluoride-Salt-cooled high-Temperature Advanced Reactor (FuSTAR) has already been designed and scaled by the Hierarchical Two-Tiered Scaling (H2TS).However, considering the difficulties to identify the distortion of the dynamic response, the Dynamical System Scaling(DSS) method was also adopted for comparison in this ***, based on the dimensionless governing equations without any common assumptions of the natural cycle process in PRHRS, the Definite Solution Analogy Theory (DSAT) was put forward in this study to calibrate dimensionless numbers based on differential *** the parameters of geometric and thermohydraulics were re-evaluated by the DSS method and compared with those from the H2TS *** results show that H2TS and DSS are equivalent in experimental design results under the constraint of *** H2TS method is better at accurately quantifying the deviation item by item, while the DSS method can find the most suitable experimental structure more quickly. © 2023 Proceedings of the 20th International Topical Meeting on Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics, NURETH 2023. This paper investigated the pretreatment of cornstalk and integrated dark‐photo fermentation for hydrogen production. Five parameters of the pretreatment experiments, including NaOH concentration, temperature, residence time, and dosage of cellulase and xylanase, were optimized through the L25 (5≙5) orthogonal test. The optimal NaOH concentration, temperature, residence time, and dosage of cellulase and xylanase were 0.5wt%, 115 °C, 3 h, 0.08g/g cornstalk, 0.08g/g cornstalk, respectively. Under the optimal conditions, 0.31g glucose/g cornstalk was obtained. The two‐step fermentation consisted of dark fermentation and photo fermentation. The pretreated cornstalk was used as the substrate for dark fermentation, with cow dung as the inoculum. Then the effluents of dark fermentation were employed as the substrate for photo fermentation by photosynthetic bacteria. H2 yield of dark fermentation was 116.7 mL/g cornstalk, with H2 concentration of 41%. After photo fermentation, the total H2 yield increased to 294 mL/g cornstalk.

Motivated by reducing the uncertainties in quantification of debris bed coolability in a severe accident of light water reactors (LWRs), this paper reports experimental studies on the pressure drops of single /two phase flows through packed porous beds with sand particles. A test facility named DEBECO-LT is constructed to investigate the friction laws of adiabatic single and two-phase flow through a particulate bed. From the single flow test, the effective diameter of bed with sands particles can be derived from the measured pressure drops and the Ergun equation. Based on this effective diameter, two phase flow tests are performed and the prediction models are verified by comparing the measured data and the calculations with different analysis models. The results show that in the case of beds with smaller sands particles, the measured pressure drops show gradual increasing tendency with fluid flowrate, and the predictions of Reed model are closer to the measured two-phase flow pressure drop at higher flowrates. For the packed beds with coarse sands particles, the pressure drops would show descent-ascent tendency and there were hardly any models predicting well the measured pressure drop. There is a clear need to develop an accurate analysis models for the bed with coarse particles. © 2016 Association for Computing Machinery Inc. All Rights Reserved.

As the global climate change and increasing requirement for thermal comfort of human, the thermal demand in the heating period is gradually climbing. The district heating system (DHS) with combined heat and power (CHP) units as the heat source is the major heating method in northern China, and exploring the flexibility enhancement way of CHP units is a key issue. The main ways to improve the flexibility of CHP units are heating unit modification and utilization of external energy storage. At the same time, there is a large amount of thermal storage in the DHS, which can be used to achieve the same effect as using hot water tank thermal storage, and can reduce the heating unit's own renovation and lower costs. In the integrated heat and power scheduling optimization, the cost is generally used as the optimization objective, but the amount of coal consumption under different operating conditions of CHP is less considered in the cost of CHP units as heat sources. In this paper, the dynamic model of the system considering the heat storage of the DHS heat network is established, and the coal consumption of CHP unit is added to the system operating cost. The study shows that the costs is negatively correlated with the water temperature of the heat network and positively correlated with the mass flow rate of heating steam, while higher CHP operating conditions increase the total operating cost. © 2024 37th International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems, ECOS 2024.
