Bubbly mixing layer with polymer additives is investigated by PIV. The void fraction is 0.5%. The comparison between single-phase and bubbly mixing layer shows that the dynamic development of mixing layer is greatly influenced by the bubble injection. Similar with single phase, the Reynolds stress and vorticity still concentrate in a coniform area of central mixing flow field and the width increases with increasing the Reynolds number. Mean Reynolds stress decreases with bubble injection at high Reynolds numbers and the decreasing of Reynolds stress with polymer additives is much more than that in a pure water case. There is an obvious decreasing to the peak value of vorticity when bubbles are injected into the fluid, and the influence on the viscoelastic fluid is smaller than that on the pure water.

The adhesion, activation and aggregation of platelets play an important role in the primary thrombus formation. In present paper, platelets, plasma, normal and injured endodermis of the vessel are modeled as particles with different characteristics and simulated by the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. In order to simulate the aggregation and adhesion of platelets on the injured endodermis of the vessel, a mechanical adhesion force model is introduced according to the inter-molecular force and physiological interaction between platelets and endodermis is modeled by the stretch and rotation of a spring. By this method, the formation of primary thrombus at the injured endodermis of horizontal and bending vessel is numerically reproduced. Results show that the thrombus forms quickly and the number of adhered platelets will not increase if thrombus has been formed. Through the analysis of flow field, the platelets go through the vibration, steady and potential break free process. Compared with horizontal vessel, the thrombus formation at the bending vessel is slower.

Through constructing micro-scale model, the kinetic of micelles in surfactant solution and the corresponding rheological properties are studied numerically by Brownian dynamics simulation. Rigid osculating multibead rods which can be connected at the endcaps are used to represent micelles. By analysis of potential and frictional effect, the force and kinetic of micelles in shear flow field are studied. The simulated results indicate that flexible micelles elongate along the cylindrical axis with addition of bending potential. As the persistence length increases, the characteristic zero-shear viscosity increases.

A local refinement method of unstructured grid generated by bubble packing method (BPM) is proposed. In the present method, different size bubbles are added to the real and artificial vertices of the domain and bubble information of these vertices is transferred to the inner nodes of the domain by the Shepard interpolation method. Moreover, a method to control the population of bubbles is presented to add bubbles in large gap between bubbles and remove bubbles to eliminate overlapping so that the generation of skinny triangles is avoided and the grid quality is clearly improved. Furthermore, the improved BPM is applied to generate unstructured grid with local refinement near boundary for square domain to simulate the lid-driven flow in a square cavity with Re=1 000. The numerical result agrees well with the benchmark solution, indicating that the improved BPM is effective to the computation of fluid flow and heat transfer.

In this work, the vapor pressure equation, saturated liquid density equation, saturated vapor density equation and Helmholtz equation of state for dimethyl ether are developed by genetic optimization algorithm combined with a weighted least-square fit of selected experimental data based on extensive collection of DME's experimental data. The average absolute deviation of vapor pressure equation, saturated liquid density equation and saturated vapor density equation is 0.50%, 0.38% and 0.55%, respectively. The uncertainty in density of the equation of state ranges from 0.1% in the liquid to 1% near the critical point.
