Given the proper band gap, low cost and good stability, hematite (α-Fe2O3) has been considered as a promising candidate for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, however suffers from the sluggish surface water oxidation reaction kinetics. In this study, a simple dip-coating process was used to modify the surface of α-Fe2O3 nanorod arrays with cobalt oxide (COOx) and carbon (C) for the improved PEC performance, with a photocurrent density at 1.6V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) increased from 0.10 mA/cm2 for the pristine α-Fe2O3 to 0.37 mA/cm2 for the CoOx/C modified α-Fe2O3 nanorods. As revealed by electrochemical analysis, thanks to the synergistic effect of CoOx and C, the PEC enhancement could be attributed to the enhanced charge transfer ability, decreased surface charge recombination, and accelerated water oxidation reaction kinetics. This study serves as a good example for improving PEC water splitting performance via a simple method.

The dispatching optimization of power grid is to obtain the greatest benefits on the basis of safe and stable operation of the power grid, which is of great significance for the energy-saving, reliability of the power grid. Therefore, a multi-objective model of power grid dispatching which considers the heat-power coupling characteristics of CHP units is developed in this study. The economic benefit and minimum wind power abandonment are taken as optimizing targets in the model. Meanwhile, the detail operation characteristics of condensing power plants and CHP units are considered in this model based on off-design models of power plant. Besides, the regional heat load and power load are scheduled together. Finally, the AHP-entropy method is used to obtain the weights of the two optimizing targets of economic benefit and wind power abandonment, and the multi-objective is converted into a single-objective.

Exhaust hot water (EHW) is widely used for various industrial processes. However, the excess heat carried by EHW is typically ignored and discharged into the environment, resulting in heat loss and heat pollution. An organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is an attractive technology to recycle heat from low-temperature energy carriers. Herein, ORC was used to recycle the heat carried by EHW. To investigate the energy and exergy recovery effects of EHW, a mathematical model was developed and a parametric study was conducted. The energy efficiency and exergy efficiency of the EHW-driven ORC system were modeled with R245fa, Rl13 and R123 as the working fluids. The results demonstrate that the EHW and evaporation temperatures have significant effects on the energy and exergy efficiencies of the EHW-driven ORC system. Under given EHW conditions, an optimum evaporation temperature exists corresponding to the highest exergy efficiency. To further use the low-temperature EHW, a configuration retrofitted to the ORC by combining with flash evaporation (FE) was conducted. For an EHW at 120 ~C and 0.2 MPa, the maximum exergy efficiency of the FE-ORC system is 45.91% at a flash pressure of 0.088 MPa. The FE-ORC performs better in exergy efficiency than the basic FE and basic EHW-driven ORC.
