Spiral transformation boosted by inverse design for a compact multi-core optical vortex mode sorter

Orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based dense space-division multiplexing technology has emerged as a promising candidate to break through the Shannon limit of single-mode fibers. While optical coordinate transformation offers potential for high-resolution OAM mode sorting, current implementations face critical limitations: the paraxial approximation constrains mode density scalability, and the plane wave approximation introduces beam quality degradation during transformation processes. We address these challenges by developing a transmissive optical vortex sorter through spiral coordinate transformation boosted by inverse-design approaches, achieving simultaneous sorting of 21 OAM modes with improved fidelity. Furthermore, we extend this advancement to a 19-core array implementation, thereby demonstrating its potential compatibility and scalability. The proposed scheme may pave the way for future ultrahigh capacity dense OAM fiber-optic communications with a large number of OAM modes while minimizing spatial resource requirements. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Anomalous Sound Detection (ASD) aims to identify whether the sound emitted from a machine is anomalous or not. Most advanced methods use 2-D CNNs to extract features of normal sounds from log-mel spectrograms for ASD. However, these methods can not fully exploit temporal information of log-mel spectrograms, resulting in poor performance on some machine types. In this paper, we propose a new framework for ASD named Spectrogram-Wavegram WaveNet (SW-WaveNet), which segments the 2-D log-mel spectrogram into 1-D waveform signals of different frequency bands and combines the representation vector extracted by WaveNet from segmented log-mel spectrograms and Wavegrams, respectively. The proposed framework utilizes WaveNet's powerful capability of modeling waveform signals to effectively extract temporal information from log-mel spectrograms and Wavegrams. Experiments on the DCASE 2020 Challenge Task 2 dataset show that our framework achieves higher average AUC scores (93.25%) and pAUC scores (87.41%) than the previous works. © 2023 IEEE.

When in an environment with insufficient light, RGB images cannot provide clear pedestrian information, while multispectral thermal imaging can provide accurate positioning information. Therefore, multispectral object detection is more reliable and robust in the open world. Most fusion methods for existing multispectral object detection are static, that is, after the network is trained, all the modalities of each piece of data are input into the network to perform static inference. However, when the light is good enough or the light is very dark, multi-spectral input will bring unnecessary noise interference and computational redundancy. Therefore, a dynamic fusion network (EDFNet) is proposed to selectively fuse RGB and thermal data, so that the network can efficiently perform multispectral fusion and improve the accuracy of object detection. The gating function included in the fusion network is able to perform modality-level decisions based on multimodal features, enabling dynamic inference on data. The Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that the proposed fusion method can reduce the computation costs and obtain comparable detection performance. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. In this paper, a comprehensive solution for enabling unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to autonomously fly through complex and dynamic environments is proposed. Moving objects all have unique property information, we propose a method that utilizes deep learning for 3D dynamic environment perception, while taking into account limitations in computing resources. For safer dynamic avoidance, we first model the dynamic target and integrate it into a static grid occupancy map, and then construct a gradient field based on its attribute information. To achieve autonomous UAV flight in dynamic environments, we design an adaptive planning method based on gradient optimization, which achieves significant computational savings by autonomously adjusting the planning frequency and using manually constructed gradients instead of maintaining a signed distance field (SDF). We have integrated the above approach into a customised quadrotor system and thoroughly tested it in real-world, verifying its flexibility to handle multiple objects with variable speed motion in complex enviroment.

In this communication, a new kind of dual-band hybrid dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with its array design and extended dual-polarized version is presented for fifth generation (5G) millimeterwave (mm-Wave) applications. The hybrid antenna that integrates three types of resonators of strip, slot, and DRA can generate four resonances in 28 and 39 GHz frequency bands. In this design, the strip and slot modes are used to cover the lower frequency band of 26.41-30.42 GHz, while the TE111 and TE131 modes of the DRA are employed to cover the upper frequency band of 36.05-40.88 GHz. It shows that the 5G mm-Wave bands of n257 and n260 can be covered simultaneously. It should be mentioned that our proposed hybrid antenna has a compact size of 0.34λ01 × 0.36λ01× 0.1λ01 (λ01 means the free-space wavelength at 28 GHz). Based on the compact size of the antenna element, a 1 × 5 antenna array with the capability of beam steering is designed and simulated. Wide steering angles of ±50° and ±40° can be obtained at 28 and 39 GHz frequency bands, respectively. Furthermore, an extended dual-polarized antenna configuration is also described and measured that provides similar two-port impedance and radiation performance with the single-port counterpart. © 2022 IEEE.
