The co-evolution of East Asian subtropical westerly jet and East Asian summer monsoon during different time periods in the Holocene and its influence on precipitation patterns in China

Generally,the interaction between the East Asian subtropical westerly jet(EASWJ)and the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)is regarded as a critical dynamic factor in the evolution of precipitation patterns in *** simulation results from the transient climate evolution since the last glacial maximum,this study applies the multivariate empirical orthogonal function(MVEOF)analysis method to investigate the co-evolution relationships of the EASWJ and the EASM during the early,middle,and late Holocene,as well as their influence on precipitation patterns in *** results indicate that all the first MVEOF modes in different time periods of the Holocene display an out-of-phase relationship in the intensity anomaly between the EASWJ and the ***,the jet stream is wider and more tilted in the late *** the influence of secondary circulations formed during their co-evolution,a north-south dipolar precipitation pattern in eastern China(“flood in the south and drought in the north”or“drought in the south and flood in the north”)and an east-west dipolar pattern in northern China(“wet in the west and dry in the east”or“wet in the east and dry in the west”)are found in the early and middle Holocene,while in the late Holocene a regionally-consistent precipitation pattern is witnessed across the whole *** this mode,the precipitation in the middle and late Holocene is primarily dominated by trend *** second MVEOF mode reveals that the EASM weakens when the EASWJ shifts eastward and the jet steam axis shortens during the early Holocene,resulting in a north-south dipolar precipitation pattern in eastern China and a regionally-consistent pattern in northern *** the middle Holocene,dipolar precipitation patterns are also observed in both eastern China and northern China when the EASWJ moves northward and the EASM strengthens,while the moisture condition in North China is less pronounced,and vice *** the late Holocene,the intensity anomali

Straw burning is a harmful and dangerous method to treat the residue of crop straw. At present, remote sensing index is widely used in the detection of incineration area. This paper tries to discuss the factors and specific ways that affect the discriminant effect of combustion index. In this paper, we used Landsat 5 image data taken in 2011 for the study area of Henan Province, combined with MODIS flash point data from May to June 2011, and then analysed the three factors on the impact of straw burning index white (burning area index). After dividing different influencing factors, the differentiation index of BAI was calculated to judge the effects of influencing factors. The results show that for the recognition indexes of different bands, the value of the near infrared band is the largest. At different times, the discrimination index decreased significantly around the 10th day. In the planting system, the effect of distinguishing two crops a year is better. It is concluded that BAI index differentiation effect is the best in the near infrared band in 10 days before the combustion of one year and two seasons. © 2023 SPIE.

The inherent uncertainty of parameters poses a significant challenge to multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO), especially when sample availability is limited and computational costs are high. This paper introduces a novel iteration-based methodology to address the multidisciplinary interval reliability optimization problem utilizing the Chebyshev interval method. Initially, Chebyshev polynomials are utilized to quantify interval uncertainty, followed by an analysis of the intervals of coupling variables in multidisciplinary systems using an iterative approach. Subsequently, an interval reliability index is introduced, based on the constraint interval, with a detailed description of the calculation process provided. Furthermore, interval order relations are employed to streamline the uncertainty optimization problems, allowing for the adjustment of the optimization objective according to the interval characteristics. Two numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and practicality of the proposed method, which effectively enhances the reliability within a precisely defined constraint interval in multidisciplinary optimization under interval uncertainties. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

The realization of reversible thermal conductivity through ferromagnetic ordering can improve the heat management and energy efficiency in magnetic materials-based ***_(3),as a new layered ferromagnetic semiconductor,exhibits a structural phase transition from monoclinic(C2/m)to rhombohedral(R3^(-))phase as temperature decreases,making it a suitable platform to investigate thermal switching in magnetic phase transition *** work reveals that the thermal switching ratio of VI_(3)can reach 3.9 along the *** properties analysis indicates that the C2/m structure is stiffer than the R^(-)one,causing the larger phonon velocity in C2/m ***,due to the fewer phonon branches in C2/m phase,the number of phonon–phonon scattering channels in C2/m phase is smaller compared to that of R^(-)*** the larger phonon velocity and the longer phonon lifetime lead to larger lattice thermal conductivity in C2/m *** study uncovers the mechanical and thermal properties of VI_(3),which provides useful guides for designing magnetic materials-based devices such as thermal switch.

Effects of phonon bandgap on phonon-phonon scattering in ultrahigh thermal conductivityθ-phase TaN

Phonon bandgap typically has a significant effect on phonon-phonon scattering *** this work,the effects of mass modified phonon bandgap inθ-phase Ta N are systemically investigated by the means of first-principles calculations with linearized Boltzmann transport *** detailed calculations,we find that phonon bandgap has a significant effect on three-phonon process while exhibits a much weaker effect on four-phonon *** reason for the ultrahigh thermal conductivity ofθ-phase Ta N is the long lifetime of phonons including both three-phonon and four-phonon processes,which originates from the weak phonon anharmonicity and large phonon bandgap-induced small phonon-phonon scattering phase *** work advances the understanding of phonon bandgap effects on phonon transport.

Nowadays the space borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an important tool to acquire the information of the ground features. As is well known, SAR image is a typical High Dynamic Range Image(HDR). HDR is generally beyond the dynamic display range of the commonly-used display equipment, and visual interpretation is the most common and direct means for researchers to obtain ground object information from SAR images. Therefore, in order to obtain high quality SAR image, it is necessary to map high dynamic range (HDR) image into low dynamic range (LDR) display output. In this article, we will analyze of SAR image brightness characteristics and propose a segmented mapping algorithm suitable for SAR *** addition common image quality evaluation index are described. © 2023 SPIE.

Developing electrocatalysts that exhibit both high activity and ammonia selectivity for nitrate reduction is a significant and demanding challenge,primarily due to the complex nature of the multiple-electron reduction process *** encouraging approach involves coupling highly active precious metals with transition metals to enhance catalytic performance through ***,we report a ruthenium-nickel alloy catalyst with nanosheets(Ru-Ni NSs)structure that achieves a remarkable ammonia Faradaic efficiency of approximately 95.93%,alongside a yield rate of up to 6.11 g·h^(−1)·cm^(−2).Moreover,the prepared Ru-Ni NSs exhibit exceptional stability during continuous nitrate reduction in a flow reactor for 100 h,maintaining a Faradaic efficiency of approximately 90%and an ammonia yield of 37.4 mg·L^(−1)·h^(−1)using 0.05 M nitrate alkaline *** studies reveal that the catalytic process follows a two-step pathway,in which HONO serves as a migration *** presence of a partially oxidized Ru(002)surface enhances the adsorption of nitrate and facilitates the release of the migration intermediate by adjusting the strength of the electrostatic and covalent interactions between the adsorbate and the surface,*** the other hand,the Ni(111)surface promotes the utilization of the migration intermediate and requires less energy for NH_(3)*** tandem process contributes to a high catalytic activity of Ru-Ni NSs towards nitrate reduction.

Major volcanic eruptions(MVEs)have attracted increasing attention from the scientific *** studies have explored the climatic impact of MVEs over the past two ***,proxy-based reconstructions and climate model simulations indicate divergent responses of global and China’s regional climates to ***,we used multiple data from observations,reconstructions,simulations,and assimilations to summarize the historical facts of MVEs,the characteristics and mechanisms of their climatic impact,and directions for future *** reviewed volcanic datasets and determined intensive MVE periods;these periods corresponded to the years 530–700,1200‒1460,and 1600‒1840 *** tropical MVEs,a substantial cooling effect is observed throughout the globe and China on the interannual-interdecadal time scales but an inconsistent cooling magnitude is detected between reconstructions and *** the first summer after tropical MVEs,a decrease in global and monsoonal precipitation is *** reconstructions and simulations,an increased precipitation is seen for the Yangtze River Basin,while large uncertainties in precipitation changes are present for other regions of *** drought can be induced by frequent eruptions and volcanism superimposed on low solar irradiation and internal *** affect climate directly through the radiative effect and indirectly by modulating internal variability,such as the El Niño‒Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO).However,changes in the phase,amplitude,and periodicity of ENSO and AMO after MVEs and the associated mechanisms remain controversial,which could account for model-reconstruction ***,other internal variability,uncertainties in reconstruction methods and aerosol‒climate models,and climate background may also induce model-reconstruction *** gaps and directions for future research are also discussed.

Autonomous underwater unmanned platforms have become important facilities in the marine field since countries attach importance to maritime rights and interests, and play an important role in both military and civilian use. However, complex underwater marine environmental elements will have a huge impact on the performance of underwater unmanned platforms, and how to ensure the safe and stable operation of underwater unmanned platforms has become an urgent problem to be solved. Based on this practical problem, this paper studies the influence of marine environmental elements on the operation of underwater unmanned platforms with reference to the hydrological data of the South China Sea, and uses Bayesian methods to carry out risk zoning of the impact of the marine environment in the South China Sea on underwater unmanned platforms. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
