Nanosecond Pulsed Bipolar Cancellation of the Killing Effect on Glioblastoma

Objective: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the deadliest type of cancer and current clinical treatments for malignant gliomas have many side effects. The article discusses the possibility that nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs) can be focused on tumors for local killing. As well as the possibility of utilizing the CANCAN (canceled bipolar) effect to reduce neurostimulation and thus overcome side effects such as seizures and edema. Method: In this paper, we use cell ablation and viability experiments to investigated the BPC (Bipolar cancellation) effect of U87-MG cells under the action of nsPEFs of various pulse numbers and the electric field amplitude. Results: The results showed that maximum BPC efficiency (163.9%) was obtained with nsPEFs of 15 kV/cm and 15 pulses, and unipolar nsPEFs of 20 kV/cm and 15 pulses were able to achieve a killing effect of 90% with cell suspension, then this electric field is used as a reference for the ablation experiments. Conclusion: Cell ablation experiments found that the electric field threshold of 3D (3D-like tissue) cell ablation (5.805 ± 1.455 kV/cm) is lower than that of monolayer wall cells (8.95 ± 0.75 kV/cm), which can cause a larger ablation area under the same pulsed electric field conditions. In addition, the BPC effect was more significant for 3D cells, but the trends of ablation area and BPC efficiency were similar when modulating the number of pulses. © 2025 IEEE.

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a promising strategy for harvesting low frequency mechanical energy. However, the bottlenecks of limited electric output by air/dielectric breakdown and poor durability by material abrasion seriously restrict its further improvement. Herein, we propose a liquid lubrication promoted sliding mode TENG to address both issues. Liquid lubrication greatly reduces interface material abrasion, and its high breakdown strength and charge transmission effect further enhance device charge density. Besides, the potential decentralization design by the voltage balance bar effectively suppresses the dielectric breakdown. In this way, the average power density up to 87.26 W·m^(-2)·Hz^(-1), energy conversion efficiency of 48%, and retention output of 90% after 500,000 operation cycles are achieved, which is the highest average power density and durability currently. Finally, a cell phone is charged to turn on by a palm-sized TENG device at 2 Hz within 25 s. This work has a significance for the commercialization of TENG-based self-powered systems.

This paper aims to study the impact of slew rate on partial discharge (PD) characteristics of BOPP film under nanosecond pulse voltage. To achieve this, experiments were conducted to detect partial discharges in BOPP films subjected to high rise rate (slew rate) nanosecond pulse voltages. The study found that the repetitive partial discharge inception voltage (RPDIV) initially increased and then reached a stable level as the rise time increased. Additionally, the PD amplitude and the number of RSD increased with higher slew rates, while the PD time-lag decreased gradually. Similarly, for FSD, the PD amplitude, PD numbers, and PD time-lag all increased as the slew rate increased. Furthermore, the study observed that when the slew rate was below 50 V/ns, the PD characteristics exhibited rapid changes with increasing slew rate. However, when the slew rate exceeded 50 V/ns, the PD characteristics showed slower variations as the slew rate increased. These presented results contribute to a better understanding of the behavior of PD in film capacitors under nanosecond pulse voltage with high slew rates. They also provide valuable guidance for evaluating the insulation performance of film capacitors. © 2023 IEEE.

The separation and recovery of positive active materials of retired lithium-ion batteries has high economic benefits and social significance. This study proposed a new method based on the vaporization of the positive collector of lithium-ion battery caused by underwater pulse discharge to separate positive active material from positive collector. A comprehensive experimental platform for pulse discharge was built. With the positive sheet as the load, the experiments of the vaporization of the positive collector in the positive sheet were carried out under different voltages. The energy deposited on the positive collector was calculated, and the phase changes of the positive collector were analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy were used to analyze the filtered products after experiments. The experimental results show that the positive collector vaporizes and explodes during the discharge process. The instantaneous high temperature and high pressure generated in the vaporization process can separate the positive active material from the adhesive. And the chemical state of the obtained positive active material has not changed significantly. The results of this paper can provide scientific and experimental basis for the separation of positive active materials of lithium-ion batteries by underwater pulsed discharge. © 2023, Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Bipolar modular multilevel converter (MMC) based multi-terminal flexible DC transmission system (MTDC) has been the preferred choice for the regional sharing of wind power. The dc fault isolation and dc fault ride-through during dc faults is one of the greatest challenges, the methods used to interrupt fault current and dissipate surplus wind power are indispensable. In this article, a novel topology with the cooperation of control strategy is proposed, which achieves dc fault isolation and dc fault ride-through under the dc faults occur on the dc transmission line (DCTL) and ac fault ride-through under the ac fault occurs on the grid-side MMC (GSMMC) ac network. Based on the simulation of four-terminal MTDC, it can be verified that the proposed topology can reduce 20 % utilization of power electronic devices to ensure the operation of the healthy area under the fault area isolation. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2023.

power-to-Gas (P2G) technology is a crucial enabler for the new energy-based power system. In this study, a daily economic dispatch model is proposed for the power system operation with P2G units. It incorporates collecting and utilizing waste heat generated by the methanation plant and connected with the Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves a 1.1% decrease in power system operation costs compared to the conventional P2G model. This paper provides valuable insights into the power systems optimization with P2G units for more efficient and cost-effective renewable energy integration into the power grid. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The integrated energy system (IES) has seen widespread application in the energy production as a result of the advancement of energy intelligent technology. While significantly increasing energy efficiency, small hole leakage failures of gas pipelines bring operational risks to the energy supply. Gas pipeline leakage may cause explosions, threatening people and buildings. Therefore, based on the one-dimension gas flow equation and dynamic gas flow model, a system network model that considers the change of pipeline topology caused by leakage failure is proposed. The process of gas leakage in the operation of gas pipelines is illustrated in the system network model. Then, an optimal scheduling model for IES is established, which includes the dynamic characteristics of gas system and leakage failure. The integrated gas and electricity testing systems are used to validate the suggested model. © 2023, Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd.

The effect of high voltage pulsed electric field on the electroporation of plant and animal cells has been widely used in tumor ablation, food sterilization, and biodiesel extraction, but the effect of pulsed electric field on pathogenic virus without intact cell structure has not been effectively studied. In this paper, we conducted a preliminary study on the effect of sub-microsecond pulsed electric field on virus, using 1000 sub-microsecond pulses of 20 kV/cm with different pulse width (200/500/1000 ns) at a heavy frequency of 10 Hz to treat lentivirus. Besides, we also examined the temperature and pH changes of virus suspension before and after the electric treatment, excluding the effect of temperature and electrolysis. The effect of lentivirus infection of HEK392T was studied comparatively by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. The results of the experiment show that the temperature during the electric treatment and pH before and after the treatment do not change significantly. The sub-microsecond high-voltage pulsed electric field can significantly inhibit the infectivity of lentivirus by disrupting its structural integrity, and the inhibition effect is positively correlated with pulse width. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Reliable measurement of the junction temperature Tj is important for the safe operation and reliability assessment of power semiconductors. In this paper, a junction temperature measurement method based on charge variation is proposed for SiC MOSFET half-bridge circuit. Based on the physical properties of the wide bandgap semiconductor and the reverse recovery characteristics of the body diode, the relationship between the charge variation during each stage of the switching transient and the junction temperature of the corresponding device is theoretically analyzed. Then, a dynamic switching characteristic test platform is built for verification. The effects of load current, bus voltage, and gate resistance on the measurement results are evaluated. Finally, the online feasibility of the proposed method is discussed through the developed charge detection circuit, and it is compared with existing temperature-sensitive electrical parameters. The results show that the proposed method has high linearity, good sensitivity, and can reflect the temperature information of both devices from the same bridge arm simultaneously. © 2023, Beijing Paike Culture Commu.
