Small satellites are increasingly attracting the attention of the industry for its many aspects of advantages. We proposed a communication subsystem for commercial remote sensing satellite. The interface between the communication system and other modules on the satellite and the communication protocol are briefly introduced. In order to make sure that the satellite-to-ground link is reliable, we calculate the link budget at 471 MHz for LEO small satellite. Additionally, the transmission power and reception sensitivity is 17 dBm and −123 dBm respectively. The result shows that the proposed subsystem is reliable in RF performance and can be used in other commercial satellite in the future.

The investigation of condensation-induced water hammer (CIWH) under ocean conditions is crucial to the system safety of the offshore floating nuclear plants (OFNPs). This paper establishes a CIWH numerical model under rolling conditions based on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code combined with user-defined functions (UDF). First, the numerical model is verified by published experimental data. Then, the transient behaviors of CIWH events under various rolling parameters are numerically investigated. The results show that the rolling motion causes a significant steam slug and enhances the steam-subcooled water contact area, which promotes the average condensation rate. The average condensation rate increases with an increase in rolling angle, decreases with an increase in rolling period. Due to the larger average condensation rate and reverse flow caused by rolling motion, the pressure peak generated by the CIWH significantly increases compared to static conditions. Similarly, the pressure peak increases as rolling angle increases, decreases as rolling period increase. Moreover, the pressure peak is proportional to steam inlet velocity, and the location of the pressure peak gradually moves back to the outlet direction as the steam velocity increases. These qualitative conclusions are useful to understand the effects of rolling motion on the CIWH and provide a reference for the CIWH simulations. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Emerging interaction-based Internet of Things (IoT) applications have stringent demand for timeliness, imposing critical challenges to the design of status update system. Using redundant devices to update the status of the same process is a promising way to improve timeliness, but this approach can result in out of order update arrivals, making it difficult to analyze timeliness. To that end, the present paper conducts a theoretical study toward the Age of Information (AoI) of a multi-queue status update system where multiple sensors observe one physical process and update a common monitor. Based on the stochastic hybrid systems method, the average AoI of the considered system is derived in closed form. The theoretical results are consistent with the simulation results, verifying the correctness of the theoretical analysis. It is shown that the logarithm of the average AoI is linearly decreasing with the logarithm of the number of sensors.

The short-range order is inherently present in the multi-principal element alloys and has a profound impact on the defect behaviour. The effect of short-range order on vacancy and interstitial formation and migration was studied in body-centered cubic multi-principal element alloy NbZrTi by first-principles calculations. Two short-range order structures created by density functional theory and Monte Carlo method at 500 K and 800 K were compared with the random solid solution structure. Both vacancy and interstitial formation energies increase with the degree of short-range order. Point defect formation energies tend to be higher in region enriched in Nb and lower in region enriched in Zr and Ti. Both vacancies and interstitials prefer to migrate towards Zr,Ti-rich regions and away from Nb-rich regions, suggesting that Zr,Ti-rich region can act as recombination center for point defect annihilation. Compared to the random solid solution, the short-range order increases the spatial heterogeneity of point defect energy landscape. Tuning the degree of short-range order can be a viable strategy to optimize the point defect behaviour to achieve enhanced radiation resistance in multi-principal element alloys. © 2022, The Authors. Customer products have become increasingly driven by mass personalization as industries are shifting to knowledge-driven user-centric design approaches such as Smart Product-Service systems (Smart PSS) to better meet expectations and remain competitive. However current user-centric design methods lack a semantic framework that properly models the components of a Smart PSS, leading to a lack in the usefulness of the knowledge generated from user research. This paper aims to create an ontological model that defines the components of a Smart PSS and their relationships to help enterprises better support dynamic personalization requirements. A case-study of electric vehicles is then presented to explore the usage of the ontologybased knowledge model on a Smart PSS.

Research on Open-Set Recognition Methods for Rolling Bearing Fault Diagnosis

In rolling bearing fault diagnosis, when an unknown fault is present, the Closed-Set Recognition (CSR) method tends to misclassify it as a known fault. To address this issue, an Open-Set Recognition (OSR) framework is proposed for rolling bearing fault diagnosis in this study. The framework is built upon a serial multi-scale convolutional prototype learning (SMCPL) network, enhanced with an efficient channel attention (ECA) mechanism to extract the most critical fault features. The extracted features are fed into the Density Peak Clustering (DPC) module, which identifies known and unknown classes based on the computed local densities and relative distances. Finally, validation is performed on the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) dataset, the Xi'an Jiaotong University rolling bearing accelerated life test dataset (XJTU-SY), and the Paderborn University bearing dataset (PU), Germany, and the framework is comprehensively evaluated in terms of several evaluation metrics, such as normalization accuracy and feature visualization. The experimental results show that SMCPL-ECA-DPC outperforms the comparative methods of SMCPL, CPL, ANEDL, CNN, and OpenMax and has high diagnostic performance in the identification of unknown faults.

As the core equipment of AC power grids, the oil-paper insulation structure of power transformers is prone to accidents such as explosions and fires due to frequent partial discharges. In order to suppress the development of transformers to severe arc discharges and explore the dynamic evolution characteristics of partial discharges from the source, this paper builds an experimental platform for partial discharge image acquisition in oil from the perspective of morphological analysis. Based on a multi-scale retinal algorithm with grey-scale analysis, an enhancement processing algorithm for low-illumination discharge images was designed to extract a continuous discharge profile. The effect of the external applied voltage on the horizontal displacement and half-perimeter distortion of the discharge was then explored. The results show that the horizontal displacement of the discharge at low voltage levels is small and the aberrations are not obvious. At high voltage levels, the discharge horizontal displacement and morphological distortion jumped strongly, and the energy was not easily concentrated. The discharge in the transition stage is always maintained at a high energy level, instead showing the least number of discharges.

Weakening s-d orbital hybridization of metallic iridium by tungsten atoms for acidic water splitting

To economically realize proton electrolyte membrane water splitting technology, stable and high-performance oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst is significantly demanded. In this work, we invite tungsten atoms to metallic iridium (Ir) to weaken s-d hybridization of Ir-Ir bond due to the higher electronegativity accepting electron from Ir atoms;as a result, the adsorbed O* species become electrophilic favorable for the nucleophilic attack by H2O leading to 22 % decrement in energy barrier for the formation of OOH* species. Therefore, iridium-tungsten (IrW) electrocatalyst exhibits 3.7-fold higher turnover frequency (TOF) than metallic Ir at overpotential of 370 mV in acidic OER catalysis. Moreover, stable OER performance is recorded due to the high cohesive energy of tungsten atoms. Additionally, TOF of IrW electrocatalyst reaches 10.1 s−1 at overpotential of 100 mV in acidic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) test, 7.6-time higher than Pt/C and metallic Ir. IrW electrocatalyst only needs 1.52 V to attain 10 mA cm−2 in acidic overall water splitting. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

Prognostics and health management (PHM) aims to reduce sudden failures during system operation, thereby improving system performance and protecting personal safety from harmful condition. Nonetheless, implementation of PHM still faces many difficulties related to security, privacy, and trustiness issues. Blockchain, an emerging technology, has great potential to resolve these problems. Adopting blockchain in PHM is a challenging task and a comprehensive analysis is required before jumping into innovation. However, scientific surveys pertaining to the topic are still scarce. In this article, a systematical exploration of the potential and influence factor of blockchain adoption in PHM is presented. combined technology adoption theory (TAT) is proposed as theoretical foundation for identifying influence factors of blockchain adoption in PHM. Twenty-one factors at both individual-level and firm-level are captured. Thirdly, a dual-ideal distance based spherical fuzzy DEMATEL is introduced to evaluate the interrelationships and importance of the influence factors with considering vagueness and hesitancy of experts’ judgements. Aiming to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness, a case study and several comparative analyses are performed finally.
