Prediction of Gross Primary Productivity Change in Central Asia Under Climate Change Using Deep Learning

Accurate prediction of future gross primary productivity (GPP) change in Central Asia is crucial for assessing the health of terrestrial ecosystems in the region and adapting to impending climate change. This study investigates the feasibility of utilizing deep learning (DL) models for forecasting future annual GPP based on historical data. Specifically, we introduce a novel model, LSTM-Transformer-Group model (LTG), tailored to the unique characteristics of GPP prediction in Central Asia. Based on MODIS GPP data, we evaluate the future annual GPP prediction performance of the LTG model and classical DL models, and we further examine the impact of different input time steps on prediction accuracy and carefully investigate the influence of climatic factors on the accuracy of annual GPP predictions. Furthermore, we evaluate the LTG model's long-term forecasting capability. Our experiments reveal several key findings: 1) DL models adeptly capture the temporal dynamics within GPP time series, facilitating direct prediction of future annual GPP based on past data. The proposed LTG model, optimized with an appropriate input time step, achieves superior prediction accuracy, yielding an R2 of 0.945;2) GPP prediction performance varies across different climatic zones, but integrating climatic variables as direct inputs to the DL model does not enhance accuracy and may even diminish performance;3) Over the long term (2019–2023), the LTG model consistently outperforms, exhibiting an average R2 exceeding 0.95. Our findings offer methodological insights for future GPP prediction endeavors in diverse geographical contexts. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Generally,the interaction between the East Asian subtropical westerly jet(EASWJ)and the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)is regarded as a critical dynamic factor in the evolution of precipitation patterns in *** simulation results from the transient climate evolution since the last glacial maximum,this study applies the multivariate empirical orthogonal function(MVEOF)analysis method to investigate the co-evolution relationships of the EASWJ and the EASM during the early,middle,and late Holocene,as well as their influence on precipitation patterns in *** results indicate that all the first MVEOF modes in different time periods of the Holocene display an out-of-phase relationship in the intensity anomaly between the EASWJ and the ***,the jet stream is wider and more tilted in the late *** the influence of secondary circulations formed during their co-evolution,a north-south dipolar precipitation pattern in eastern China(“flood in the south and drought in the north”or“drought in the south and flood in the north”)and an east-west dipolar pattern in northern China(“wet in the west and dry in the east”or“wet in the east and dry in the west”)are found in the early and middle Holocene,while in the late Holocene a regionally-consistent precipitation pattern is witnessed across the whole *** this mode,the precipitation in the middle and late Holocene is primarily dominated by trend *** second MVEOF mode reveals that the EASM weakens when the EASWJ shifts eastward and the jet steam axis shortens during the early Holocene,resulting in a north-south dipolar precipitation pattern in eastern China and a regionally-consistent pattern in northern *** the middle Holocene,dipolar precipitation patterns are also observed in both eastern China and northern China when the EASWJ moves northward and the EASM strengthens,while the moisture condition in North China is less pronounced,and vice *** the late Holocene,the intensity anomali

Influences of strain rate on mechanical behaviors of unsaturated and quasi-saturated loess under varying drainage conditions

Although time-dependent deformation of geomaterials underpins slope-failure prediction models,the influence of strain rate on shearing strength and deformation behavior of loess remains *** consolidated undrained(CU)and drained(CD)triaxial testing elucidated the impact of strain rate(0.005–0.3 mm/min)on strength envelopes,deformation moduli,pore pressures,and dilatancy characteristics of unsaturated and quasi-saturated *** drained conditions with a controlled matric suction of 50 kPa,increasing strain rates from 0.005 mm/min to 0.011 mm/min induced decreases in failure deviatoric stress(qf),initial deformation modulus(Ei),and cohesion(c),while friction angles remained *** displayed initial contractive volumetric strains transitioning to dilation across varying confining *** rates diminished contractive volumetric strains and drainage volumes,indicating reduced densification and strength in the shear *** undrained conditions,both unsaturated and quasi-saturated(pore pressure coefficient B=0.75)loess exhibited deteriorating mechanical properties with increasing rates from 0.03 mm/min to 0.3 mm/*** unsaturated loess,reduced contractive volumetric strains at higher rates manifested relatively looser structures in the pre-peak stress *** strength decrement in quasi-saturated loess arose from elevated excess porewater pressures diminishing effective *** porewater pressures emerged in quasi-saturated loess at lower confining pressures and strain *** to previous studies,the qf and Ei exhibited rate sensitivity below threshold values before attaining minima with marginal subsequent *** underlying mechanism mirrors the transition from creep to accelerated deformation phase of landslides.

Degradation of oxytetracycline in soil by a Pseudomonas strain

Oxytetracycline（OTC） is used extensively in animal husbandry and enters the soil in different forms, causing severe environmental pollution. Previous studies have shown that the genus Pseudomonas can potentially degrade antibiotics in the soil environment. environmental conditions, such as the initial concentration of antibiotics, incubation temperature and others, have significant impacts on the activity of antibiotic-degrading bacteria. However, few reports have clarified the environmental impacts on the effectiveness of Pseudomonas spp. In the present study, we investigated the effects of different initial concentrations of OTC and incubation temperatures, as well as soil sterilization, on OTC degradation by Pseudomonas strain T4. We also focused on the microbial degradation pathways of OTC, and variations in both antibiotic resistance genes（ARGs） and microbial communities with T4 functioning under optimal conditions. The results showed that the most effective degradation occurred under an initial OTC concentration of 2.5 mg kg–1at 30°C in unsterilized soil spiked with T4. These conditions yielded an OTC degradation rate of 69.53% within 63 days. The putative degradation pathways of OTC in the presence of T4 included dehydration, demethylation, deamination, hydroxylation, oxidation and ring opening. Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria played key roles in the biodegradation of OTC with T4 in the soil. The results also showed that tet（G） was the most frequently detected ARGs among the 13 common tetracycline ARGs that were investigated. The bacterial community shift observed in this study may provide new insights into the microbial degradation of OTC in soil.

Comparison of gap-filling methods for generating landsat-like land surface temperatures under all-weather conditions

Thermal infrared remote sensors provide cost-effective and widespread land surface temperatures (LSTs) but often with spatiotemporal gaps due to discrete sampling and synoptic disturbance, greatly limiting their reliability and application. Current gap-filling methods have been primarily developed and validated for medium- to low-resolution LSTs;however, with rising demand for spatiotemporally continuous, high-resolution (tens of meters like Landsat) LSTs across disciplines, there is an urgent need to assess these methods’ applicability and uncertainty at higher spatial resolutions under a unified framework. In this study, we apply eight typical and hybrid methods, including temporal interpolation, spatiotemporal interpolation, weight-based fusion, learning-based fusion, and four standard annual temperature cycle (ATC)-based hybrid reconstructions, to fill gaps in irregularly spaced Landsat series over Weishan, Huairou, and Yulin, China. These sites represent cropland in a sub-humid plain, forest in a sub-humid mountain region, and grassland in the semi-arid Loess Plateau. We evaluate their performance in terms of spatiotemporal pattern, statistical accuracy, sensitivity to input data quality and distribution, and adaptability to different synoptic and surface conditions based on cloudy Landsat data and in-situ measurements. Results reveal that the enhanced ATC (EATC) method is optimal among these methods, capturing all-weather spatiotemporal dynamics at the Landsat scale with superior accuracy and robustness under various input, cloud, and ground conditions. In addition, the ATC-based hybrid methods do not necessarily improve the statistical accuracy over their respective typical ones. Bacterial communities play a crucial role in permafrost biogeochemical cycling and ecosystem function *** interaction is one of the main factors in shaping soil bacterial ***,how would bacterial interaction influence the bacterial communities in permafrost of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)remains largely *** we collected paired soil samples from both the active and permafrost layers of two typical QTP permafrost regions in October 2020 for Tuotuohe River(TTH)and May 2022 for Aerjin(ARJ),and investigated the bacterial communities and the role of interactions in structuring the bacterial community and its assembly process through amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA *** study revealed distinct bacterial communities,with significant differences in the relative abundances of Proteobacteria(P<0.05),Acidobacteriota(P<0.001),Bacteroidota(P<0.05),and Planctomycetota(P<0.001)between the active layer and the permafrost *** importantly,we found that interspecies interactions,including both positive and negative associations,were strongly correlated with bacterial alpha-diversity and played a significant role in community variation and assembly *** findings also showed that the community assembly in both the active and permafrost layers was primarily driven by homogeneous selection of deterministic processes,with interspecies interactions accounting for more than 58%and 63%of all assembly mechanisms,*** is the first study to quantify the contribution of bacterial interactions in shaping the bacterial community and its assembly process in permafrost of QTP,highlighting the importance of considering interspecies interactions in future modeling *** work also emphasizes the necessity of including interspecies interactions in microbial process projections to reduce uncertainty.

Dense-array ambient noise tomography is a powerful tool for achieving high-resolution subsurface imaging, significantly impacting geohazard prevention and control. Conventional dense-array studies, however, require simultaneous observations of numerous stations for extensive coverage. To conduct a comprehensive karst feature investigation with limited stations, we designed a new synchronous–asynchronous observation system that facilitates dense array observations. We conducted two rounds of asynchronous observations, each lasting approximately 24 h, in combination with synchronous backbone stations. We achieved wide-ranging coverage of the study area utilizing 197 nodal receivers, with an average station spacing of 7 m. The beamforming results revealed distinct variations in the noise source distributions between day and night. We estimated the source strength in the stationary phase zone and used a weighting scheme for stacking the cross-correlation functions (C1 functions) to suppress the influence of nonuniform noise source distributions. The weights were derived from the similarity coefficients between multicomponent C1 functions related to Rayleigh waves. We employed the cross-correlation of C1 functions (C2 methods) to obtain the empirical Green's functions between asynchronous stations. To eliminate artifacts in C2 functions from higher-mode surface waves in C1 functions, we filtered the C1 functions on the basis of different particle motions linked to multimode Rayleigh waves. The dispersion measurements of Rayleigh waves obtained from both the C1 and C2 functions were utilized in surface wave tomography. The inverted three-dimensional (3D) shear-wave (S-wave) velocity model reveals two significant low-velocity zones at depths ranging from 40 to 60 m, which align well with the karst caves found in the drilling data. Phase-Only Beamforming for Dual-Polarization Array Radar Based on Manifold Optimization

The phase-only beamforming (POB) technique manipulates the weighted phases of array antenna elements to create a desired radiation pattern, thereby reducing the hardware and power costs associated with large phased arrays. However, two significant challenges currently hinder the practical implementation of POB. First, the beam gain generated by POB can be severely distorted when a main lobe interference is present. Second, the POB method struggles to suppress interferences whose positions change within the spatial domain. To address these challenges, this letter proposes a novel POB method for dual-polarization array radar. This method incorporates polarization constraints on a Riemannian manifold under the condition of null broadening. By doing so, it generates robust nulls that can effectively suppress moving interferences in the main lobe and side lobes while preserving the beam gain. Numerical simulations demonstrate that this method exhibits excellent anti-interference performance. © 2025 IEEE.
