This study proposes a dynamic domain-based collision avoidance system consisting of environment perception, situation awareness, guidance, navigation and control modules for autonomous ships. A dynamic ship domain considering the relative motion between target ships and own ship, has been established. A Nomoto model with a predefined speed during path planning is adopted to generate followable paths conforming to the ship kinematics. To handle the problem of collision avoidance uncertainties in real-world induced by environmental disturbances or inconsistent actions, a local path planning algorithm based on a virtual force field, dynamic ship domains and a re-planning strategy, is proposed to continuously generate feasible collision avoidance paths. During experimental testing, a method based on virtual automatic identification system (AIS) information is introduced to simulate target ships, and a real ferry is utilized as the target ship, the course of which is variable. The results of real experiments in coastal waters of China, demonstrate that the proposed collision avoidance method and system can achieve safe and efficient collision avoidance in the presence of environmental disturbances and randomly moving target ships. © 2023, The Authors. With the development of living and production standard, the power load is increasing continuously, and the distribution network needs to be expanded to meet the expectation, meantime, low user voltage problem frequently appears. Flexible AC Transmission technology (FACTS) provides a new method for power flow control in grid. Thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) is used in (or above) 10kV transmission and distribution lines to solve the problem of power transmission. In the low-voltage distribution network, it can improve the terminal voltage. But for now, in the practical application of engineering, its control method is not mature enough, some problems like Inaccurate control or complex control steps still exist. In this paper, two possible improvement measures are put forward aiming at TCSC's traditional table check control schemes. more applicable functional relationships are proposed by using mathematical analysis, and the application conditions of the two improvement schemes are compared and analyzed. After theoretical analysis and practical verification, the improved scheme can make up for the shortcomings of the traditional control mode to a certain extent, and can play a better effect in practical application. © 2020 IEEE.

Three electrode method is a common method in measuring tower grounding resistance. However, its wiring distance is too long to complete accurate measurement in some terrain narrow areas, which is also an application problem to be solved urgently in the field of tower grounding resistance measurement. The traditional three electrode method is to find the compensation point between the grounding pole and the current pole. After calculation, there are also compensation points near the current pole besides the grounding pole and the current pole by using the traditional three electrode method. Based on this principle, the current pole is arranged between the grounding pole and the voltage pole by the current pole inner distribution method, which can greatly shorten the distance of the distribution pole. Through simulation analysis and test verification, the pole inner distribution method can control the pole distribution distance around 50m on the basis of ensuring the accuracy of the measurement results. Compared with the three-pole method, the pole distribution distance is shortened to 60%. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Provenance-Based Endpoint Detection and Response (P-EDR) systems are deemed crucial for future APT defenses. Despite the fact that numerous new techniques to improve P-EDR systems have been proposed in academia, it is still unclear whether the industry will adopt P-EDR systems and what improvements the industry desires for P-EDR systems. To this end, we conduct the first set of systematic studies on the effectiveness and the limitations of P-EDR systems. Our study consists of four components: a one-to-one interview, an online questionnaire study, a survey of the relevant literature, and a systematic measurement study. Our research indicates that all industry experts consider P-EDR systems to be more effective than conventional Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems. However, industry experts are concerned about the operating cost of P-EDR systems. In addition, our research reveals three significant gaps between academia and industry: (1) overlooking client-side overhead;(2) imbalanced alarm triage cost and interpretation cost;and (3) excessive server-side memory consumption. This paper's findings provide objective data on the effectiveness of P-EDR systems and how much improvements are needed to adopt P-EDR systems in industry. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Dead-Time Compensation and Single-Loop Control Strategy for Ground Power Unit

Instead of the auxiliary power system, the ground power unit supplies to airplanes during stopovers in airports, which is an important means of reducing carbon emissions of airport. However, under the restraint of switching frequency and high dynamic response speed, a single control loop is usually implemented in 400 Hz voltage-source inverter, the sampling and control of the inductor current in the LC filter are avoided, result in the design of the control system being more difficult, and the direction of the dead-time compensation can not be obtained due to the lack of the current polarity. In view of the above problem, this paper firstly analyzes the in-fluence on the output voltage of inverter due to the dead-time, including the errors of fundamental amplitude and phase, and the low-order harmonic distortion. Then, according to the state equation of the inductor current, a current observation model without zero drift is proposed to obtain the polarity of the inductor current. On this basis, feedforward compensation is carried out for the voltage error generated by the dead-time. Combined with the amplitude-frequency characteristic curve, the parameter optimization design method of the single closed-loop proportional-resonant controller is presented. Finally, a simulation model and an experimental platform are established to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the current observation model, dead-time compensation method and controller parameter optimization design method proposed in this paper. © 2023, The Authors. Cyber-Physical-Social systems bridge the gap between social resource organization and distribution, and give birth to Society 5.0, which represents a transformative vision aimed at realizing the human-centric paradigm for more efficient and effective sustainable development. In this paper, we discuss the decentralized paradigm in fostering human needs-driven smart services, in line with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. Societies 5.0 is committed to optimizing the use of natural, artificial, and social resources by enhancing democratic participation and ensuring that decision-making processes are more transparent, reliable, and aligned with the needs of the populace in sustainable ways. Moreover, our discussion extends to how Society 5.0’s principles correlate with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing a framework that supports health, education, and poverty reduction, among other targets. This approach also aligns with the Human Development Index (HDI), reinforcing the notion that technological progress in Society 5.0 does not overshadow but rather complements and enhances human values, paving a synergistic path towards sustainable development that is both advanced and fundamentally human-centric.

Three-dimensional (3D) freehand ultrasound (US) reconstruction without a tracker can be advantageous over its two-dimensional or tracked counterparts in many clinical applications. In this paper, we propose to estimate 3D spatial transformation between US frames from both past and future 2D images, using feed-forward and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). With the temporally available frames, a further multi-task learning algorithm is proposed to utilise a large number of auxiliary transformation-predicting tasks between them. Using more than 40,000 US frames acquired from 228 scans on 38 forearms of 19 volunteers in a volunteer study, the hold-out test performance is quantified by frame prediction accuracy, volume reconstruction overlap, accumulated tracking error and final drift, based on ground-truth from an optical tracker. The results show the importance of modelling the temporal-spatially correlated input frames as well as output transformations, with further improvement owing to additional past and/or future frames. The best performing model was associated with predicting transformation between moderately-spaced frames, with an interval of less than ten frames at 20 frames per second (fps). Little benefit was observed by adding frames more than one second away from the predicted transformation, with or without LSTM-based RNNs. Interestingly, with the proposed approach, explicit within-sequence loss that encourages consistency in composing transformations or minimises accumulated error may no longer be required. The implementation code and volunteer data 1 will be made publicly available ensuring reproducibility and further research.

It’s difficult for traditional rigid manipulators to complete relevant operations in the single port laparoscopic. The notched continuum manipulator owns the features of flexibility and biocompatibility which can make it possible applied in the single port laparoscopic. A kinematics modeling similar to the constant-curvature approximations is proposed in this paper. It can be utilized to describe the mapping relationship between the length change value of two driven wires and the end position. This method simplifies the complexity of kinematic modeling. And it makes the control method of the continuum manipulator easier to achieve as well. The accuracy of the model has been verified by the prototype.

NODLINK: An Online system for Fine-Grained APT Attack Detection and Investigation

Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) attacks have plagued modern enterprises, causing significant financial losses. To counter these attacks, researchers propose techniques that capture the complex and stealthy scenarios of APT attacks by using provenance graphs to model system entities and their dependencies. Particularly, to accelerate attack detection and reduce financial losses, online provenance-based detection systems that detect and investigate APT attacks under the constraints of timeliness and limited resources are in dire need. Unfortunately, existing online systems usually sacrifice detection granularity to reduce computational complexity and produce provenance graphs with more than 100,000 nodes, posing challenges for security admins to interpret the detection results. In this paper, we design and implement NODLINK, the first online detection system that maintains high detection accuracy without sacrificing detection granularity. Our insight is that the APT attack detection process in online provenance-based detection systems can be modeled as a Steiner Tree Problem (STP), which has efficient online approximation algorithms that recover concise attack-related provenance graphs with a theoretically bounded error. To utilize the frameworks of the STP approximation algorithm for APT attack detection, we propose a novel design of in-memory cache, an efficient attack screening method, and a new STP approximation algorithm that is more efficient than the conventional one in APT attack detection while maintaining the same complexity. We evaluate NODLINK in a production environment. The open-world experiment shows that NODLINK outperforms two state-of-the-art (SOTA) online provenance analysis systems by achieving magnitudes higher detection and investigation accuracy while having the same or higher throughput. Robust Denoising of Cryo-EM Images via β-GAN

The cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) becomes popular for macromolecular structure determination. However, the 2D images which Cryo-EM detects are of high noise and often mixed with multiple heterogeneous conformations and contamination, imposing a challenge for denoising. Traditional image denoising methods and simple Denoising Autoencoder can not remove Cryo-EM image noise well when the signal-noise-ratio (SNR) of images is meager and contamination distribution is complex. Thus it is desired to develop new effective denoising techniques to facilitate further research such as 3D reconstruction, 2D conformation classification, and so on. In this paper, we approach the robust denoising problem for Cryo-EM images by introducing a family of Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), called β-GAN, which is able to achieve robust estimate of certain distributional parameters under Huber contamination model with statistical optimality. To address the challenge of robust denoising where the traditional image generative model might be contaminated by a small portion of unknown outliers, β-GANs are exploited to enhance the robustness of denoising Autoencoder. The method is evaluated by both a simulated dataset on the Thermus aquaticus RNA Polymerase (RNAP) and a real dataset on the Plasmodium falciparum 80S ribosome dataset (EMPIRE-10028), in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) and 3D Reconstruction as well. The results show that equipped with some designs of β-GANs and the robust 1-Autoencoder, one can stabilize the training of GANs and achieve the state-of-the-art performance of robust denoising with low SNR data and against possible information contamination. Our proposed methodology thus provides an effective tool for robust denoising of Cryo-EM 2D images, which is helpful for 3D structure reconstruction. © 2021, CC BY.
